Chandler Jones was released by the Raiders last September after facing a pair of domestic violence charges. It sounds like the pass rusher will ultimately avoid jail time, per Taylor Lane of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

After entering a no-contest plea, one of Jones’ domestic violence charges was dismissed. The other charge resulted in a suspended 90-day jail sentence, and Jones can avoid jail time “if he stays out of trouble and has no contact with his victim,” according to Lane. This condition lasts through December 17.
Jones was first arrested in September after violating a temporary protection order against the mother of his son. The arrest report says that Jones “got naked and burned the woman’s belongings that he took from her backyard,” per Lane. The Raiders released Jones shortly after this incident. The veteran was arrested again in October after violating the same protection order.
Prior to his legal issues, Jones was engaged in a public feud with the Raiders organization. The player was publicly critical of both head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, with Jones claiming that he was locked out of the team’s facility. Jones later stated that he no longer wanted to play for the franchise, and he was sitting on the NFI list before being cut by the Raiders. Jones signed a three-year, $51MM deal with the team in March 2022, but the organization only got an underwhelming 15-game showing from the former All-Pro.
Jones had stints in New England and Arizona prior to his tumultuous stint in Las Vegas. The former first-round pick has 112 career sacks, 49 of which came between his 2017 and 2019 campaigns with the Cardinals. It’s been naturally quiet on the Jones front since his release from the Raiders last year, and with 2024 representing his age-34 season, there’s a good chance the edge defender won’t get another NFL gig. In the unlikely event that he does resurface with a team, he’ll likely face punishment from the league stemming from his two most-recent arrests.
Was naked while burning the woman’s belongings, if yes that must’ve been quite a scene! lol
Likely a result of CTE so it’s a lot more tragic story than it is funny.
Goodell likes to rant about how much the NFL is doing for player safety but are they actually spending anything on research to discover tests for CTE? My understanding is that currently, it can only be determined in an autopsy which obviously is way too late.
You are right, right now only way is test after death. There is lots of research being done to come up with tests before. This effects many more than just football so there is considerable testing and interest being done. How much nfl? I don’t know.
Probably. I also wouldn’t rule out PEDs. There is an element of crazy involved with his behavior since he walked into the Raiders locker room.
I pray he can get the mental help he receives. Before this he always seemed like a well adjusted stand up guy but something obviously snapped mentally
Dem Jones boyz be wilin out
Some kind of privilege.
For most of us, myself included, this came as a major shock. In hindsight, a lot if us, also myself included, jumped to conclusions regarding McDaniels and the Raiders early on, before more facts came to light. Looking back at it, the Raiders actually had enough respect fir Jones to not release too much information about Jones’ struggles when he accused them of wrongdoing.
The victim here must really feel for his mental state. Violating a protection order can already come with consequences from the court, but twice, and in such an extreme manner and relatively short period, usually results in a bigger punishment. I would wager that Jones’ mental state is seen as a bigger concern for treatment by all parties involved. You’d assume at first that that should be the way it should work, but sometimes people who need help end up doing harmful things or escalating, so the need to protect others outweighs the leniency necessary to facilitate help. It sounds like they’re willing to take that gamble in Jones’ case, and hopefully it it is successful. You’d much rather see that than anything else.
While C.T.E. could potentially exacerbate his issues, it sounds more like Jones has a type of mental illness or a disorder. I’m not a professional in that field and won’t venture to guess what type, but I’d wager that he has something that heightens his paranoia. I don’t know exactly how C.T.E. affects that specifically, or if Jones even has it (or has it to an extent where it is contributory), but I’m inclined to think that mental illness or a disorder is the primary factor here. T.B.I.s contribute in a sort of way to these concerns; a T.B.I. is certainly not a disorder, but it can create common symptoms present in many disorders/illnesses (a very common one is extreme mood swings). With that in mind, it stands to reason that severe C.T.E. could as well. However, I don’t know if those can create paranoid delusions like Jones may have had, though they could have been enhanced by it. Perhaps one of y’all knows more on the subject; if so, I’d be happy to be enlightened on the specifics.
It’s unfortunate. He was a very good player and very well liked by his teammates and fans here in New England. It’s definitely possible if not probable that he has some level of CTE, but it’s also possible it could be something else too. He was traded out of NE in his contract year which gave Belichick the nice neat cover of his impending contract probably being the reason. But he also had a very strange incident two months prior to the trade where he showed up shoeless and shirtless to the Foxborough Police Station in the middle of the night very confused and looking for help. It may or may not have involved Gronk, it also may or may not have involved synthetic marijuana, PCP laced marijuana or pills. We never really got the full story and never will. Just a bunch of rumors. So he may or may not be dealing with some addiction issues. Either way it’s sad, and I wish him good health and strength to overcome whatever it is.
