Following the car accident the led to a hospitalization, Myles Garrett was back at the Browns’ facility Thursday. Although Garrett did not practice, Browns DC Joe Woods said he has a chance to play this week.
Garrett suffered a shoulder sprain and biceps strain in Monday’s one-car accident, along with a cut on his right hand, and the crash report (via cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot) indicates Garrett reported pain in the left side of his face. Both Garrett and the female passenger in his 2021 Porsche, Yiana Tjotjos, were discharged from an Akron hospital Monday night.
Garrett, 26, was cited for failure to control his vehicle, per Cabot, who adds the sixth-year defensive end was driving 65 mph in a 45-mph zone in Sharon Township, Ohio. Garrett’s car hit a ditch and a fire hydrant and flipped “several times.” An observer counted three flips during the crash, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. The crash remains under investigation.
This marks another speed-related violation for Garrett, whom WKYC.com notes has been stopped for speeding at least six times since his 2017 Cleveland arrival. Two of those instances involved going over 100 mph; both occurred within a 24-hour period, according to the TV station. Those two stops took place in September 2021 on a highway south of Cleveland. Garrett was also cited for driving 100 mph in a 65-mph zone in May 2020.
Jadeveon Clowney did not practice Wednesday or Thursday due to an ankle injury that kept him out of the Browns’ Week 3 game, though Kevin Stefanski said the former No. 1 overall pick has a chance to play against the Falcons. Clowney and Garrett missing that game would certainly leave Cleveland’s pass rush shorthanded. The Browns have rookie Alex Wright, who started in place of Clowney in Week 3, along with veteran Isaac Rochell and 2022 seventh-round pick Isaiah Thomas at defensive end. The team would undoubtedly make a roster move to add a fourth active-roster D-end in the event Garrett and Clowney are ruled out.
A citation?? He flipped his car while going 20 miles over the speed limit. Wouldn’t any of us simpletons lose our license as a bare minimum in this situation? Just unreal how sports figures are treated. Reminds me of OJ getting off Scott free then writing a book about exactly what happened. Sickening
Yeah, Myles Garrett driving 65 in a 45 is the same as OJ…
he only flipped the car because a mean racist in the other lane said the N word
Reminds me of Pelosi’s husband getting 5 days for DUI and destroying his car.
Honestly I’m surprised he did any time at all considering the state of this country
it’s not stealing if it’s less than $2,000 worth of merchandise.
also life sentences for murder is ridic.. everyone should be given another chance……….. to murder
It’s only half of that and Pelosi didn’t get anything for his DUI, the charges got tossed.
So he got two speeding tickets for going over 100MPH TWICE in 24 hours? How does he still have a license?
This time he was only doing 65, hit a fire hydrant, dislodged it from its fitting, pulled it out of the ground, and flipped the car at least 3 times….yeah, I don’t think he was only doing 65 and he’s lucky both he and his passenger are still alive.
I think the police need to decided to take his license away. He’s a danger to everyone else on the road and he is not capable of handling the privilege. The Browns should be proactive and make it mandatory that he be driven everywhere. If he breaks this code, then he gets suspended and his contract voided.
So soon after Ruggs, this clown is out there racking up 100+ mph speeding tickets and flipping his car over. He should be suspended for a few games but won’t because Goodell is a coward.
That’s it Mister. Goddell is going to give Watson a 12th week of suspension.
We don’t punish people for what they didn’t do or haven’t done yet… As in, he didn’t kill anyone (You brought Riggs into this). He very well may one day but he will be punished for that THEN! As for his license, yes, it should be suspended for a period of time.
Exactly.
We punish outcomes not actions.
Like morons.
Never seen anyone so enthusiastic about this judicial randomness.
“Wait ’til he kills someone to do anything!”
Once he heard Deshazor Everett only got 3 months of “house arrest” for killing his girlfriend in a similar event Garrett likely assumed going 100MPH whenever he wanted meant nothing to civilized society.
For the sake of his career and his life, Garrett should sell the Porsche, as well as all 2 seater vehicles he owns, and hire a full time chauffeur.
Garrett should not be behind the wheel of a vehicle until such time that he emotionally grows up.
I am not sure the Porsche has much trade in value. His other if he has any should be sold.
The real surprise is that it’s been over 24 hrs since the incident and no greedy shyster has yet approached the passenger about bringing a lawsuit against Garrett.
They’re too busy suing the fire hydrant manufacturer for being placed in a way that forced him to destroy his car and flip several times.
That’s…a lot of violations. I’m not sure about how Ohio’s speeding laws are set up, but that many incidents in a five year period would surely qualify Garrett as a habitual offender. The 100+ tickets would also, I would have thought, qualified as reckless speeding or some equivalent that would have suspended his license (or carried that possibility at least; you’d have that the second would have done that).
Speeding at a very rate once, twice, maybe not that big a deal. But that’s a lot right there. I don’t know the circumstances of what happened or what Garrett did to make up for it, but that’s just mindblowing how he hasn’t been suspended as a driver yet.
As far as I know, you get your license suspended for racking up 12 points in a 2 year period. 2 points are acquired if one goes 25 mph or less over the limit, while 4 are gained otherwise. Given that, he must be close (10 points at least) to having his license stripped for 6 months
Interesting. 25 mph or over here can suspend a license. The first level of speeding (10 mph or under over the limit) carries a two point violation, and the next two (11-16 mph over and 16-25 mph over) carry four points. 25+ mph over is arrestable and may suspend a license. Total points are the same, 12. Thank you for the information, I appreciate you sharing it, Wagner.
Yeah, Ohio makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?
He flipped his car because he got distracted trying to hit a pedestrian with his helmet.
Not riding shotgun with this dude.
