The Vikings traded for the Colts No. 42 overall pick to select Clemson cornerback Andrew Booth in the 2022 NFL Draft. Booth is the seventh cornerback off the board.
For awhile, Booth was considered the consensus second-best cornerback in a first round that was expected to see many get selected. Booth didn’t hear his named called with the four other cornerbacks taken yesterday, but he didn’t last long into Day 2.
Booth led the Tigers with three interceptions and added 5 passes broken up in his first season as a full time starter. Booth recently underwent hernia surgery that may hold him out of the Vikings’ early offseason workouts, but Minnesota sees enough upside to the 21-year-old to move up for him anyway. When healthy, Booth boasts an intriguing combination of length, athleticism, and ball skills that should translate well at the next level.
Minnesota gave the Colts their 53rd (2nd round) pick, 77th (3rd round) pick, and 192nd (6th round) pick in exchange for the pick used to select Booth and Indianapolis’ 122nd (4th round) pick.
Ok I take my complaining back, still don’t love the trade with the Lions but getting the safety they wanted and a corner I was shocked was still on the board while collecting more picks definitely shuts me up. Can’t believe they traded up it’s so rare for the Vikes.
It’s been hard to follow for me, but they could have kept their picks and drafted the S from ND with their 1st rounder and still have traded up for this guy. Would have loved to see one ND alum Harrison Smith pass the reigns to another ND draft pick.
Supposedly they had Cine ahead of Hamilton (the Notre Dame safety), guess they didn’t think he would stick at safety considering he’s a tweener. I think they like that Cine can play both safety spots so he can start right away and replace Harrison when the time comes.
Ah yeah that’s a fair assessment. Thanks for clearing that up! Look forward to seeing how this team performs this season, could be really great or could be another .500ish season
I love the approach of more athleticism on the team. Cine is faster than Hamilton and can cover more space. Booth has a good background & a little less of an injury history than Stingley and was considered by some to be at least the 2nd best cb and in some places Booth is listed as a 4.38 cb which is faster than Minnesota normally has. The LB Asamoah is fast and will probably be a great blitzer and cover guy. I as one fan, really like what I’m seeing the new people put together.
I just don’t understand why anyone would complain and whine without seeing what the players, coaches and team does for at least 2 seasons. Why do some many people act like 2 year olds. The people making decisions are actually professionals and highly paid to be successful. Just maybe, they know more than most of us at least some of the time. LOL
Qckappa come on, have you seen some of the Giants draft picks in recent years? They may be “professionals”, but they don’t know more than all of us.
