Derek Carr got his wish earlier tonight when the Packers traded for wideout Davante Adams. Next up: a lucrative extension. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports (via Twitter) that the Raiders will now pivot to extending their quarterback. Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal tweets that an extension is coming “sooner than later.”

When the Raiders hired Dave Ziegler as GM and Josh McDaniels as head coach, some were questioning whether Carr would be moved. The organization continued to say that Carr would be sticking around Las Vegas, and the Raiders’ decision to reunite their QB with his college WR all but confirms that Carr will be with the team for the foreseeable future.
Back in 2017, Carr became the first player in the NFL to average $25MM per season. Even while breaking that barrier, Carr claimed at the time that he was leaving money on the table. Pundits posit that Carr has earned near-top-tier money that could make him yet another quarterback to join the $40MM per year club, joining the likes Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Dak Prescott.
Carr’s current deal runs through the 2022 season, so the two sides will surely want to complete a deal before the offseason is over. The front office has already spent big money to extend Adams and Maxx Crosby, so Carr should see a lucrative contract before long.
packers traded for?
Good QB but $40M a year good?
In todays landscape, I’d say so. You gotta figure Herbert is going to get close to $50 when he signs.
Just the going rate. Let’s say you really wanted a Lambo, it’s 300k. You go to buy one and there’s only like 5 left, you decide you don’t think it’s worth the money, but the salesman says “Well that’s price right now” but, you know if you don’t buy it now, it’s only gonna go up in value next year, someone else is gonna buy it or worse, there won’t be anymore lambos altogether. You risk only being able to drive a Ford focus for many years to come. Now consider you just bought some badass tires/rims for that lambo (Davante Adams) well now you HAVE to buy the lambo.
Lol…Forget the rims and tires…Davante Adams is more like adding a supercharger!! Adams joining up with Hunter Renfrow, Bryan Edwards, Foster Moreau, and especially Darren Waller, Derek Carr is going to have his pick of the litter game in and game out.
Plus, Carr will also have Jacobs in the running game, so that’ll only even open up further their play-action attack. Now, with Waller, Edwards, Renfrew, and Adams, Carr will be able to attack the field any amd everywhere!!
One of the best pickups for the Raiders that I can remember, excellent job!! Carr should be coming into this season more.confident than ever, and I’m willing to bet yoi will see a more mature version of himself out there next season.
You forgot Kenyan Drake out of the back field. Probably catch 70 balls out of the back field with that talent out there.
When was the last time someone traded up from a Ford Focus for something like this?…link to bringatrailer.com
Probably not worth $40M, but thanks to the Dallas Cowboy Braintrust all mediocre/above avg QBs can feel entitled to that number and above.
How dare you drag Prescott’s name through the mud!!?! EVERYONE knows he’s a top QB in the league, and he’s just been a back by a bad coach and vanilla play-calling, then it was not enough weapons, it has been due to a porous defense a few times, then it was Zeke being out of shape ane ineffective or injured, then it was their OL not staying healthy, then he wasn’t healthy, and now we all know it was Amari Cooper’s fault for the Great One not advancing in the playoffs…!!!
Jesus with the way Dak apologists talk and sound you’d have to think Dak is the most unlucky QB to ever play the game!! Because, obviously, we ALL know it cannot be his fault whatsoever!! Dak is ELITE? remember!?! lol
Give me a break with all that nonsense and the absurd excuses, simple.mulligans, and flat out passes that man gets for consistently NEVER getting the job done!!
C’mon man. Enough with the excuses. Dak is who he is. Carr did more with Less.
You definitely missed the point of that comment but you’re both right lol
How in God’s name do y’all manage to bring the Cowboys into everything?
Anyone giving Carr an extension is going to be searching for a job less than two years later. This is why the Raiders can move anywhere they want….they are still the Raiders.
Your name says it all.
The Raiders can move anywhere they want but ironically the whole time Mark Davis was in Oakland he was trying to convince the public that he was cash poor and couldn’t afford to leave the decaying Coliseum.
Davis is one of, if not the least wealthiest owners in the NFL. Oakland didn’t get a stadium deal because the people wouldn’t pass the public money that goes into every stadium. Las Vegas was willing and ready, so there they went.
