There has been a development with regards to Washington Commanders defensive back Deshazor Everett. As The Washington Posts’ Nicki Jhabvala tweets, he has been charged with involuntary manslaughter as a result of the fatal car accident he was involved in earlier this season.
As Grant Gordon of NFL.com adds, Everett turned himself into the Loudoun County Detention Center on Tuesday. He is being held on a $10,000 bond. The incident in question took place on December 23rd, and resulted in the death of Olivia Peters, who was Everett’s passenger. One day after the crash, the Commanders placed Everett on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list, as he suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the 29-year-old was driving at more than twice the posted speed limit just before the crash. In a statement, the team said, “We are aware of these charges and are continuing to monitor the situation. We will have no further comment at this time“.
Everett continued his recent role of playing all-but exclusively on special teams in 14 games this season. He is under contract for one more season in Washington, the only franchise he has played for in the regular season during a seven-year career.
Lock his ass up
Peters was Everett’s girlfriend according to some reports I’ve seen. I hesitate to judge him because he’s already receiving a terrible punishment, having to live with the knowledge that he likely caused the death of someone he loves. I hope that everyone involved can heal and move in from this tragedy.
He didn’t “likely” cause her death, he “definitely” caused her death and despite his sorrow there are consequences for reckless behavior. My condolences to her family.
I only said “likely” because he hasn’t been proven or plead guilty to the charge yet. I’m not an idiot, he very likely is 100% responsible, and if he was in fact driving that fast there should be consequences. But unless you were there filming it, neither of us knows what “definitely” happened.
Two people in a car being driven recklessly by one which led to the death of the other. I don’t need a verdict to know who was 100% responsible for her death. Your original post was more about how he lost his woman and is already suffering a loss and now it’s about legal proceedings.
OK then. Be well.
Are we up to 3 people killed by NFL players in the past year, then? Or is it 4?
that should read “confirmed kills”……….
I drive on that road quite often; it is very curvy, uneven, hilly, and poorly lit. The speed limit is mostly 45, if he was truly doing 90 mph that’s incredibly reckless.
There are rumors that he was racing against some teammates in another car they had just had dinner with.
There should be more private courses where people can drive like recklessly or fast without the risk of harming others.
