Adam Peters will interview with the Giants once again on Thursday (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero). With that, the 49ers assistant GM becomes the third known finalist for the Giants’ GM vacancy, joining Joe Schoen of the Bills and Ryan Poles of the Chiefs.

The Giants have considered at least nine candidates for the position, per PFR’s GM Search Tracker:
- Ran Carthon, director of player personnel (49ers): Interviewed 1/17
- Ryan Cowden, vice president of player personnel (Titans): Interviewed 1/14
- Quentin Harris, vice president of player personnel (Cardinals): Interviewed 1/13
- Joe Hortiz, director or player personnel (Ravens): Interviewed 1/15
- Monti Ossenfort, director of player personnel (Titans): Interviewed 1/14
- Adam Peters, assistant general manager (49ers): Interviewed 1/17
- Ryan Poles, executive director of player personnel (Chiefs): To conduct second interview 1/19
- Joe Schoen, assistant general manager (Bills): Conducted second interview 1/18
- Adrian Wilson, vice president of pro personnel (Cardinals): Interviewed 1/12
It’s possible that some of the other names on this list will be brought back for another round but, for now, it’s Peters, Poles, and Schoen in the lead to replace Dave Gettleman. Peters, who has been with the 49ers since 2017, offers ~18 years of NFL experience, including time with the Broncos and Patriots.
The Giants’ next GM will be tasked with heading the team’s latest rebuilding effort, which will include the hiring of a new head coach. Reportedly, the team is already eyeing former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, who may want to bring Deshaun Watson with him.
talk about a downgrade id rather be the 49ers strength and conditioning coach than the nygiants gm
You’d rather be a nobody on a team that squeaked into the playoffs, only has two picks in the top 100 this year (#58 and #90), and has no first rounder *next year* than one of the top guys (making way more money, incidentally) taking over a bad team with nowhere to go but up? If you turned the Giants into a contender, you could be a legend. Weird take.
Yeah, as we all sit or work at our generally boring daily jobs looking forward to watching football on Sunday…I’d hate for the opportunity to be the gm of any team…sarcasim
If Adam Peters had any say in that crazy trade for Trey Lance, I’d rather the Giants pass on him. The 49ers don’t have a first rounder until 2024 because of that deal and we don’t even know if Trey will be any good.
So rct, we don’t know if Lawrence or Wilson or Fields will be any good either. None, including Lance, would have been available where the niners would have drafted. Mac Jones would have been available but he’s JimmyG 2.0.
Let’s say they hit the jackpot with Lance, then they’ll be a top team and a first round pick would have been late in the round. So that had to be their thinking. I don’t remember a lot of fans being positive about picking Deebo, Aiyuk, Warner, Greenlaw, and Mitchell. Thomas has become solid. There’ve been some failed picks but every team has them. So rct, you might be right but as you stated “we don’t know”.
You’re right, however if the 49ers didn’t trade up for Lance, then it’s possible one of Fields or Lance would have been available for them at #12. Or maybe not, because the Falcons might have taken him. But trading three 1sts and a 3rd seems seems like a huge price to pay for anyone, especially for an unproven rookie QB who only started 17 games in college.
I personally would not want someone involved in that decision as Giants GM.
Neither Lance nor Fields would have been there. They traded 2 firsts though. They lost 2 firsts. Kept the one they used on Lance. I’ll predict Lance will be a star.
Lance has way more upside than Daniel Jones.
What is structure in the background of this picture? A jail?
Rudy Guilliani is the obvious choice, especially for the Giants’ leadership crew.
