The Ravens claimed offensive tackle Brandon Knight earlier this week, but the team subsequently placed him on the reserve/did not report list. Well, the 24-year-old revealed tonight that he’s temporarily stepping away from the game.
“First and foremost, I want to thank the Baltimore Ravens for allowing me another opportunity to play the game I’ve always loved,” Knight said in a statement (via Twitter). “As of now, I’ve decided to take a break from football to address my mental health. Although it was a difficult decision, it was a necessary one to be back home with my family. I look forward to returning next season.”
The former Indiana lineman joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He ended up appearing in seven games as a rookie, getting one start. He saw even more responsibility in 2020, starting nine of his 13 games.
However, Knight only saw time in one game this season, garnering four snaps. He was waived by the organization last week.
The Ravens had to reverse course on their waiver claim, and they ended up pivoting to veteran offensive lineman James Carpenter. The team has been hunting for offensive line help since All-Pro left tackle Ronnie Stanley opted to go under the knife this week, ruling him out for the rest of the year.
Pretty bold as a former UDFA to think you can just take the rest of the year off an still get another shot.
Grow up.
“Grow up”? He’s right… sorry if that ‘hurt your feelings’….. you’ll get over it.
I did not make any comment on his mental health or need to work on it. My comment was only about his status in the NFL and the likelihood he would get another opportunity.
I don’t think that he is worrying about that right now. Obviously, that is all you care about, I guess.
Not sure why you seem to view this as an either/or situation. I can make a statement about his future prospects and still consider his mental health important. People are so whiny these days.
Bold indeed
I would think that his mental health is WAY more important than a backup job in the NFL.
Waaaahhhh
yeesh, tough crowd. the guy wants to take some time to work out his mental health. God forbid…
When Roethlisberger expresses concern for his mental health everyone applauds but when a journeyman OL does the same he gets shamed? That’s disgusting.
TRUST ME NO ONE applauded the molester taking time off.
I don’t care that he’s working on his mental health. If he needs it, more power to him. But he said he looked forward to coming back next year, and as a backup UDFA I just don’t think that’s likely.
I am a little surprised that James Carpenter is getting work. The Falcons are pretty needy and they opted to cut bait on the guy in March. I know it is a PS position but at that point, why not get a guy with upside?
I agree put Knight on the PS pay him for the year even though he doesn’t play. I can still hear Carpenter being called for false start 2 a game holding 1 a game and standing and watching the guy he just wiffed on sack Wilson. That was numerous times a game but Wilson would actually get away from the guy most times. I saw one year he went to a new gym and worked out with a bunch of OL and started the next season better but reverted back to his normal look out block
Why would you take up one of the 16 PS spots to a guy who won’t be there every day to actually practice
If they value him and think he can contribute it is a way to keep his rights. There used to be a thing called lay away. Most big stores did it. You find a good sale but can’t afford the item. You put it on lay away and make monthly payments or pay it off all at once. This was before CCs were big. They could put him on layaway. That is if they lose his rights. I know if you retire and the team still has you under contract if you unretire they still have your rights not sure about this. Those 16 spots mostly are practice bodies. I know some players come up but how is it much diff than what I said?
Doesnt want the jab and because of his value in the NFL, is not able to be one of the roughly 6 players that each team can have in that 10 percent jab. Thankfully the virus knows not to go around the higher profile players.
Good for him.
He has his priorities straight.
Can tell by the picture that there are issues.
At least with hand – eye coordination.
Dude shaved his head, instead of his face !!
