The Raiders are signing Peyton Barber off of the Washington Football Team’s practice squad, according to a source who spoke with Ben Standig of The Athletic (on Twitter). Now, the running back will join the 53-man roster in Las Vegas.

The Raiders previously tried to claim Royce Freeman off waivers, but lost out to the Panthers due to waiver priority. Barber’s still a solid consolation prize, considering his past work. Back in 2018, he led the Buccaneers in rushing (871 yards), staving off Ronald Jones in the process.
However, Barber played on just 18% of Washington’s offensive snaps in 2020 and was on the field on 30% of Washington’s special teams plays. The 225-pound running back averaged a career-low 2.7 yards per carry last season, gaining 258 yards on 94 rushing attempts. He missed Washington’s final cut and settled for their practice squad. Now, he’ll have a chance to see the field in Week 1.
Barber will support top RBs Josh Jacobs and Kenyan Drake while Jalen Richard rehabs his injured foot.
The Raiders have announced that all players will be wearing their hair neatly trimmed and hair will no longer extend out beyond their helmets due to the fact that the team now has their very own……………………………………
BARBER !!
Ironic, Mr. Davis, very ironic
I don’t care who you ya are that’s funny right there.
So what your telling me is that every players do coach on the team will have the Mark Davis haircut.
The Raiders look like they’ll have a very solid stable of backs, which should be good for them. I wonder how they will deal with their lack of touches, though. Jacob’s certainly will command a lot, and his primary backup in Drake is used to significant amounts of ball handling, even when he was not a clear starter earlier in his career. Richard is hurt, but has been a solid backup and accomplished pass catcher for the Raiders for the last few years. Barber obviously was the primary back in Tampa for a year due to Jones’ ineffectiveness and started in college for an SEC ground program.
If the backups can adjust to having fewer carries-and stay in contributory shape when not in on snaps-the Raiders will have a really deep backfield. As it stands now, it seems like Jacob’s and Drake will take up the vast majority of touches between them.
dougdeb@hotmail.com yes but will still have that bum at qb
That “bum” is anything but. Most teams would better with Carr at QB than who they have. No, I’m not a Raiders fan. But I know better than to let my personal dislike masquerade as fact.
Even saying “I don’t think Carr is THAT good” is better than just saying something baseless like “he’s a bum.”
