One new member of the Bengals didn’t have the best Fourth of July. Rookie defensive end Darius Hodge was arrested on the holiday, per WRAL 5 in North Carolina.
Unfortunately the story is light on details, but they do report that the arrest was for an alleged assault all the way back in 2019. Hodge was “charged for hitting a man repeatedly,” but that’s about all they have at the moment. On the surface it doesn’t sound like anything overly serious, but this certainly won’t help the undrafted free agent’s chances of making the team.
The Marshall product had nine tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks in 10 games last year. He was part of a relatively small Bengals UDFA class, and Cincy could use some edge rushing help, so he seemed to have a decent shot initially.
Working in his favor is the fact that this alleged incident happened before his NFL career started, so he won’t be subject to league discipline for it.
The bengals are BACK!
Did they ever stop getting arrested lol
It’s always the Bengals. Why is that?
AB on line one…
I’m sure Burfict passed on his experience and wisdom.
Kinda convienent how he’s now an NFL rookie and someone wants to press charges from 2 years ago. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know what this is all and only about….$$$$$
No doubt. Usually is.
He was an undrafted free agent signing that had very slim chances of making the roster and more likely shooting for the practice squad. The victim won’t be cashing in too much.
To add on, I’m pretty sure at this point of the offseason he hasn’t even gotten a check yet
If he was signed then I would believe that he did get a check. How else is going to pay for his food, travel and etc.
Off the measly signing bonus he got as an UDFA. They can’t pay you your salary you didn’t earn yet because you didn’t make the team. Those are paid out once the season starts.
Seems smart if you were on the receiving end of an assault that you bide your time and wait until the perp has sufficient income to extract your deserved revenge. Pretty simple explanation to me.
