This year, NFL teams have been quick to tackle their rookie paperwork. Still, there are a decent number of unsigned draft picks remaining, including ten of this year’s first-rounders:
- QB Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 1 overall)
- QB Zach Wilson, New York Jets (No. 2 overall)
- QB Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers (No. 3 overall)
- TE Kyle Pitts , Atlanta Falcons (No. 4 overall)
- OT Rashawn Slater, Los Angeles Chargers (No. 13 overall)
- OG Alijah Vera-Tucker, New York Jets (No. 14 overall)
- QB Mac Jones, New England Patriots (No. 15 overall)
- RB Travis Etienne, Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 25 overall)
- CB Greg Newsome II, Cleveland Browns (No. 26 overall)
- DE Joe Tryon, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (No. 32 overall)
In a sense, this is a sign that things are back to normal in football following the pandemic. For example, by June 12th of 2019, 22 first-round picks had put pen to paper, with 222 rookies inked on the whole. However, around this time last year, there were just two first-round picks officially in the fold – Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Panthers defensive lineman Derrick Brown.
Offset language and similar minutia could be holding these ten deals up, but there’s no reason to panic. In all likelihood, these rookie contracts will be squared away before the start of training camp this summer.
All this does is remind me how great of a draft, and how solid an offseason the Jets had. They’ve quickly turned from a joke, with a coach the players seemed to give up on to an interesting up and coming team that could be really good in a couple years.
The future is really bright with Saleh, LaFleur (another Kyle Shanahan disciple), Ulbrich, Manuel, and Calabrese, their QB coach. They might be a young staff overall, but Saleh was smart and hired himself a few really experienced assistants. Saleh went through a real learning experience in SF, but he’s a quick learner, and he’s excellent at making in-game adjustments.
Clearly he’s a defensive minded coach, but he brought with him Shanahan’s second man in LaFleur, and Zach Wilson and their offense will be in EXCELLENT HANDS!! With Wilson, Carter, Moore, C.Davis, Crowder, and then the improved OL with Becton, Vera-Tucker, and an improved Edoga their offense could really take off, especially in the these guys’ second year.
Saleh has some good pieces to work with on their Defense as well. He had to have Warner, but he basically worked with a bunch of backups and did some great things in SF due to injuries..
With Quinnen Williams vastly improving, Zuniga, Sherwood, Lawson, a healthy Mosley and Ronald Blair, Curry, J.Davis, and then A.Davis, Echols, Maye, Joyner, and Hall in the secondary Saleh will have some pieces to work with in key spots. He knows how to draw up some plays.
Saleh might start off playing fairly conservative in his first year, but once he really gets to know and trust his players, ajd with another offseason to add some key guys to fit his system, Saleh will have the Jets back with a very solid defense..BOOK IT!!
Jets are going to be giving teams fits starting next season. I think this year, they’ll go through some tough learning experiences, but they will be a young and hungry team thays going to leave their opponents knowing they fought tough and hit hard..
If I were a Jets fan I would be super excited about their future!! Heck, I’m excited about them, and I’m not even a Jets fan. Lol
Jets will still underachieve like they always do they are the Sacramento Kings of the NFL
Jets always gonna jet.
hold out for more money. being drafted this high means teams need you
Jets beat writers don’t even write that much stuff. Because it’s the Jets.
I don’t understand why it takes so long for these draft picks to sign. They can only make so much. Its not like they can hold out for what they want.
