Chase Harrell is out for the 2021 campaign. The tight end has been suspended for the entire season, per ESPN’s Field Yates (via Twitter).
We haven’t received an explanation for the tight end’s current suspension, but it’s worth noting that Harrell was slapped with a six-game ban last October after violating the NFL’s PED policy.
Harrell spent three years at Kansas, hauling in 30 receptions for 302 yards and five scores. He had a standout pro day (including a 4.53 40-yard time) prior to the 2020 draft, and he ultimately signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent. The organization initially signed him as a defensive lineman, but the team website continued to list him as a tight end.
Harrell spent time bouncing on and off the 49ers practice squad in 2020, and he was finally waived by the organization back in April. Considering the 12-month ban, it’ll be a while before Harrell gets another shot at the NFL.
Likely another PED ban, due to him trying to bulk up to possibly switch over to DL, idk..
Either way, wish him well, and hope he can continue to train without using any banned substances..
It’s a highly competitive league, and the young man was just trying to fight for his job and career. Can’t say I really blame him, but hopefully he learns his lesson, and he’s able to get another opportunity, be it the NFL or another league
This is legitimately one of the most rational comments I’ve ever seen on this website. Doesn’t seem to happen often so props to you lol
If your a lowly practice squad player you get crushed like a bug but if his name was Josh Gordon he would probably be re-instated in a month.
Kind of a big difference between some recreational drugs and PEDs.
I agree with you, but think it’s funny you chose Gordon as an example despite the long history of reinstatement’s. Gordon got put through the ringer for weed and alcohol which he later admitted to having issues with and is literally still sitting out from his first and only ped suspension which has gone on longer than the dude you’re comparing him to, who is also a repeat offender now(allegedly).
Oh wait I eat my words, forgot about the two weeks from last season. Now I fully agree with you, my bad, Lemon!
Brian Cushing would be a better example or Rodney Harrison.
Not often that you hear about a tweener from TE to DL… Must have some anger or tenacity and very quick hands.
If I understand the story correctly, he’s not on an NFL roster right now. If that’s the case, could he still be tested for PED use?
My guess is that maybe he failed a test back in April which led to his release??
Personally I ponder how and when these random drug tests take place? Who’s kidding who? The league suspends players in a ruse to look as if they have a grip on the problem. In reality just look at the big name players that move on to television jobs. They are half the size they were in their playing days? Fact is drugs are EVERYWHERE in sports. These poor people are led to glory and fame in a flash. We read year after year notable or not names of players that pass in their 40s, 50s even 60s of all the garbage they put into themselves. To think otherwise in my opinion turning a blind eye. “Fortune and Glory”
