The Colts are working out former Bears kicker Eddy Pineiro today (Twitter link via ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter). If signed, Piniero will compete with Rodrigo Blankenship over the summer for the Colts’ kicking job.
Blankenship joined the Colts last year after nailing 27 of 33 field goals in his final season at Georgia. His 82.5% make rate over four years ranked as the best in program history and he went 200-for-200 on all of his extra point tries. He wasn’t quite as sharp from long range as a pro, missing four kicks from beyond the 40-yard mark. Still, he finished his rookie year with a 86.5% FG rate.
Pineiro, meanwhile, made just 82% of his field goals for the Bears in 2019. Then, he missed all of 2020 due to a groin injury and ceded the job to Cairo Santos.
Colts fans on social media will have a fit if Blankenship isn’t the team’s kicker next season.
Colts are spicing up their kicking competition.
There is no way that Blankenship is going to face any competition as The Colt’s kicker. I have pulled for Eddie since Gruden gave him a shot, he is simply training camp fodder.
The only try out that would be safer to keep Blankenship’s job secure would be to bring in Roberto Aguayo……
Pineiro will win the Colts job and make the Pro Bowl. Santos will go full Cody Parkey. Because…Bears. Being a fan of this team has made me become so jaded and pessimistic at such a relatively young age.
You are wise beyond your years. As an “older” Bears fan, I wish I could tell you that optimism is just around the corner, but I cant even type that with a straight face
Bring back Vinatieri so he can reach that 600 FG milestone…he’s only one shy of it.
Hot rod is the starter, end of story.
