THURSDAY: Golladay will visit the Giants today, according to veteran NFL reporter Josina Anderson (on Twitter). The sides will meet this afternoon, with Anderson noting the summit is expected to take some time. Golladay clashed with the Lions’ Matt Patricia-led coaching staff, per NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo (video link), so it will be interesting to see how ex-Patricia coworker Joe Judge will proceed.
WEDNESDAY: The Giants have one of the top free agents in their sights. They are expected to bring Kenny Golladay in for a visit, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport (on Twitter).
While the Giants were rumored to be Golladay suitors ahead of the franchise tag deadline, Rapoport adds the former Lions standout is also interested in a New York pact.
Golladay’s impending visit reminds of previous NFL eras, when big-ticket free agents would make trips to teams’ facilities before signing. Golladay’s reputation would put him above the current caliber of player who would need to make a visit before seeing a high-end offer, but the four-year Lions wideout saw multiple injuries limit him to just five games last season.
The receiver market has not moved considerably yet, and the players who have made commitments have not received monster offers. Golladay, JuJu Smith-Schuster, T.Y. Hilton and Will Fuller remain unattached. Though street free agents like Emmanuel Sanders and John Brown agreed to terms with teams, as did UFAs Corey Davis, Marvin Jones and A.J. Green, key receiver dominoes have yet to fall. Among wideouts, only Davis has signed for more than $10MM per year thus far this year.
To the surprise of some, the Lions passed on using their franchise tag on Golladay. Given this visit development, perhaps the team was leery about potential compensation for the former third-round pick. The Giants and Dolphins have been the teams linked to Golladay thus far, but not much has emerged on this front this week.
The 6-foot-4 boundary wideout has two 1,000-yard seasons on his resume, and his Pro Bowl year (2019) came when Matthew Stafford missed half the season due to injury. The Giants cut ex-Golladay teammate Golden Tate but still have complementary-type receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton under contract. They also are taking a flier on disappointing Bengals top-10 pick John Ross. If healthy, Golladay would fit as the leader of this corps. But it remains to be seen which other teams will make plays for the 27-year-old target.
If this happens I’m guessing the Giants won’t draft a WR.
So what might they get as far as edge rusher at #11?
Thank you in advance

Why in the world would he want to play for the Giants?
Edge rusher or a corner at #11. No guarantee that Chase, Smith or Waddle will be there at #11.
I guarantee you one of those guys will in fact, be there.
He would be the clear number one option and with how weak the division is, playoffs are a possibility.
Plus, of course, money.
Id rather the Giants sign Juju and then draft Devonta Smith, Pitts, Chase or Waddle to pair with Juju. Would make a deadly receiving corps along with Slayton and Barkley in the backfield.
I certainly hope the Giants sign him because so far, they’ve been pretty AWOL in free agency. Their big moves:
Losses:
-Tomlinson, Zeitler, and probably Gallman
Additions:
-Raiders back-up RB (Booker), the Bengals’ like number 4 or 5 receiver (John Ross), and a FB/ST player from the Texans (Gallaspia)
Kept:
-Solder, L. Williams, and a few lesser players
There is no possible argument that they have improved at all in free agency so far. In fact, I’d say losing Zeitler and swapping in Solder makes them much worse.
It does but the Williams tag forced them to do so. They saved $12m by cutting Zietler, and they would have had a $10.5m cap hit by cutting Solder. So now they still have the $10.5 cap hit but he remains on the roster due to the restructure.
I would have preferred not singing Williams and resigning Tomlinson plus an edge pass rusher. It would have given them for financial flexibility for more signings.
I can’t remember the number, but if they had cut Solder after June 1, his cap hit would have been lower. Could have done that, or at least threatened it in negotiations with Solder.
I agree on Williams. I get why they did it, but it’s an overpay. Would have preferred Tomlinson and an edge rusher, too. Oh, well. Hopefully they hit on a few draft picks because this portion of the offseason has been pretty disappointing.
Had they cut Solder pre June 1st, the cap saving would have been $10.5 million this year. A post June 1st cut doesn’t clear up the money on the books until after FA was over, plus’s creates 2 years of dead cap hit.
Plus once Solder is gone the cost of a swing tackle on the current market is in the $5 mil per year range, so you aren’t really saving that much and creating a need. By doing the restructuring you are keeping your swing tackle AND reducing the cap hit by over $7 million.
Not a bad move. Although we need to use that savings on a playmaker.
It’s only not a bad move if Solder is any good, which he wasn’t in his last action in 2019.
But yes, they need a playmaker. $7 million for Kyle Rudolph doesn’t seem great so far.
Perfect signing for the Giants. Kenny G is injury prone, and that’s a good fit with the Giants.
He can join the newly signed Ross on IR
