The Eagles are sticking with Jalen Hurts as their starting quarterback, head coach Doug Pederson announced. Hurts — starting in place of Carson Wentz — impressed on Sunday as he led the Eagles to a 24-21 win over the Saints.

Thanks in part to Hurts, the Eagles snapped a four-game skid and kept their playoff hopes alive. Now, the Birds are a mere 1.5 games back of the Washington Football Team for the NFC East lead.
Hurts completed 17-of-30 passes against the Saints. More importantly, he dazzled on the ground. His 18 carries for 106 yards put him in rarified air — he’s just the fifth Eagles quarterback to rush for 100 yards in the Super Bowl era, joining the likes of Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb, and Randall Cunningham.
Meanwhile, the Eagles will need to decide on Wentz’s fate by the second day of the 2021 league year in March. On Day 3, Wentz’s 2022 base salary of $22MM gets locked in and he’ll receive a $10MM roster bonus for 2021. Cutting Wentz would result in a massive dead cap hit of nearly $60MM, but a trade would be much more palatable for their finances.
If the Eagles aren’t able to squeeze into the playoffs, they’ll have many more decisions to make, including the fate of Pederson.
They got a ton of flak for drafting Hurts. So of course it ends up being a decent selection.
They deserved the flak for drafting a backup QB when you had so many more immediate needs right after giving the franchise QB a huge contract. They created a bigger controversy/distraction and now have to figure how to get out from a contract that cripples your cap or keep both.
its not a controversy. Hurts is the better QB and is therefore starting. Wentz is getting paid regardless, and its not a distraction unless its let be one. if Hurts started last week they could have beaten two of the best teams in the sport in the span of two weeks. there is no question here.
Wentz is broken but can be put back on track, the team failed him. The o-line has been in shambles this season but played at another level yesterday, the d-line was phenomenal as well; Sanders was given more runs than usual and overall the team played very well. Hurts played well in the 1st half and struggled in the 2nd, let’s see him put a couple decent games together before we anoint him.
17 for 40 for 167 yards and 106 yards rushing and a QBR of 58.5. That is a guy I would want leading my team. He might end up being decent or once teams keep him in the pocket and make him throw could change it all. There is not enough info in the NFL. There is a track record in college though. We all know Tua replaced him at half in the college championship game.
As for Wentz he is seeing ghosts and not pulling the trigger. Can he be fixed? Too early to tell. They need to get players around him and see how he does.
Would have been better for all parties to have a phantom injury and sit the rest of the season. Not as much pressure on Hurts or Pederson. It is not costing you more and the team isn’t close to a SB. There are some decisions that need to be made fast and others you can wait. A team not close to a post season run could wait on a QB who was close to being the MVP a few years ago.
picking Hurts was the right choice. it was the extention that was the wrong one.
So who is the one eagles QB that is not mentioned as the 100 rusher??!! If you name 4 of 5, why not name them all! I am also just curious and do not want to google it lol
A: Jack Concannon, 1966 vs. the Steelers.
Hurts over Wentz…. no duh !
