Earlier today, the Dolphins toldd Kalen Ballage that he was getting cut. Instead, they’re trading the running back to the rival Jets, as Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. In exchange, Miami will receive a conditional late-round draft choice.
It’s a situation that plays out often in the NFL. Before formally releasing a player, teams will often leak word of their impending release to reporters. That sometimes prompts teams further down the waiver wire to make a call. In this case, it worked out for the Dolphins, who will be receiving something, rather than nothing, for their former fourth-round pick.
In an admittedly small sample size of 36 carries, Ballage averaged 5.3 yards per attempt as a rookie. He was far less impressive last season, but the Jets could find a role for him behind starter Le’Veon Bell and RB2 Frank Gore.
Really why would the Jets sign Him there is no reason to sing kalen ballage
He played well under Gase and the Jets may be looking for an FB type. If he doesn’t make the roster, it won’t cost them anything.
They didn’t sign him, they traded for him.
The word sign is not even in the article… lolol
He’s got some value as a backup RB and punt returner. Apparently they did not have a clear cut fave for returns and Gase has history with him. For a late round conditional pick it makes some sense. Plus, considering the Jets number one and two running backs are Bell coming off a disappointing year and Gore at 37 years old, there’s likely going to be a need to spell both of them late in games with some fresh legs.
Ah, No. he has no value. Dude might be the worst RB in NFL history. He looked like a blind person when the ball was thrown to him. Perhaps you have not seem the ball off the head clip. For a great athlete he sure looks like a NAF in pads.
The worst RB in history didn’t average over 5 yards a carry his rookie year…and probably run behind the consensus worst line in the NFL last year. Maybe take a step back and consider some other factors before making such a categorical judgement?
Signing Bilal Powell would have cost them nothing but cash…SMH
