The Giants are moving on from Aldrick Rosas, according to Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (Twitter link). Rosas is facing three misdemeanor charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident earlier this summer.

California authorities say that Rosas was going 100 mph when he t-boned another car in June and they believe that he may have been intoxicated. Per the police report, Rosas was driving erratically before he blew through a red light and smashed into the side of a pickup truck. Then, cops say he continued driving, stopped only when his SUV broke down, and took off running. When police arrived on the scene, they found Rosas walking nearby with his legs and bare feet covered in blood.
This wasn’t Rosas’ first incident. In February of 2016 – just before the draft – Rosas was arrested and charged with a DUI. The DUI charge was ultimately dismissed, but Rosas pled guilty to having a BAC over the legal limit and received 30 months of probation.
Since joining the Giants, Rosas has made 62 of his 75 field goal tries. In 2018, he earned a trip to the Pro Bowl, making him just one of four kickers in Giants franchise history to secure the honors. He’s been the Giants’ kicker for 48 straight games, but there were some hiccups last year, including four missed PATs.
Rosas’ release will take his $3.26MM salary off the books and leave the Giants’ with a kicking vacancy. Stephen Gostkowski – and old friend of Giants head coach Joe Judge – could be a logical fit.
This is how the New York Giants do business now. Under Joe judge things like this will not be tolerated and when you do something that is conduct detrimental to the team you’re gone. I applaud The Giants for this move.
You do realize Judge has nothing to do with roster decisions, right?
Since when do coaches have “nothing to do with roster decisions”? Coaches are the first person that a GM consults with before making a move.
If you think Dave Gettleman is consulting anyone below him, much less an unproven rookie head coach, before cutting a troubled *kicker* coming off of a very bad year, then you don’t know how Gettleman or the Giants operate.
So much weirdness in your comment.
First, this is how the Giants do business **now**? Tom Coughlin was their coach for over a decade. The Giants have *always* done business like this. They cut Josh Brown a few years ago for legal issues.
Second, they cut a kicker with multiple legal issues stemming from recidivist driving infractions who–and this is the important part–was already on very thin ice because he was terrible last year. Literally every team in the league would have cut him.
Third, Joe Judge has nothing to do with personnel moves. He’s a completely unproven rookie head coach.
Clown comment all around.
If the Giants didn’t release Rosas he would certainly be subject to suspension by the League. Kickers are certainly expendable so why not sign another.
Maybe lets not get arrested next time Aldrick.
Just saw their signing Chandler Catanzaro to take his place.
Just occurred to me that this isn’t new for the Giants. Didn’t they cut a kicker for domestic violence issues a few years ago?
Yes- Josh Brown
@goldenmisfits… then why is Baker still on the team if they don’t tolerate this kind of stuff…
Why do all kickers seem to be crazy?
It is a bit surprising that they decided to release Rosas this late. I would have expected that to happen sooner if it were decided.
Anyway, he is a good kicker, so I think it’s pretty obvious that this is purely due to the arrest and his actions during the incident. It sounds, from the details given, that it is fairly unlikely that nobody else was injured. I hope that’s the case. 100 mph T-bone is not a low risk accident.
It’s definitely not ‘purely’ due to the arrest and his actions. He was awful last year. 12-17 on field goals (he had so few attempts because the team lost confidence in him) and missed four XPs.
If he’d repeated his 2018 season instead of falling off a cliff in 2019, they may not have cut him over this.
This guy should never sniff a license again.
