While the Jets remain interested in Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams, they are not considered the frontrunner for the veteran lineman, according to Connor Hughes of The Athletic (Twitter link).
Washington is attempting to move Williams ahead of the draft this week, and they’ve apparently taken over complete control of the process by “closing the window” on allowing Williams and his agent to speak with other clubs. The Redskins are reportedly speaking with multiple teams regarding Williams.
New York has been tied to a Williams acquisition since early March. However, later reports indicated the Redskins were holding out for a second-round pick. The Jets, who hold the 48th overall selection, decided that was too rich an ask.
The Jets made several additions to their offensive line during free agency in signing George Fant, Connor McGovern, and Greg Van Roten, but none are on the level of Williams, who would immediately become the best Jets lineman in quite some time.
Those pair of 3s they hold should be enough at this point.
Won’t happen the Jets aren’t trading a second to pay a 31 year old guy who is coming off an injury 20 million a year long term.
You do realize he missed all of last year which means he’s probably perfectly healthy right now right? Seriously the Jets fans are about as delusional as their organization. A midsecond rounder is nothing for an all pro left tackle and odds are the best left tackle the Jets would have had in quite some time. Something tells me the average Jets fan might rethink this dance by week for when they see Sam Darnold running for his life after virtually every snap.
So you characterize an entire fan base of one persons comment? That seems a bit delusional in its own right. I’m not even a Jets fan…
The only thing that ages well is fine wine and this guy ain’t fine wine…..he’s a year older, 31, and having not played a full season in several years for a variety of ailments, some due to playing and of course his most recent one in 2019…asking for the draft capital the Redskins are asking for with the Jets sitting at 11,and then having to pay him his asking price of $20 Million a year is the true delusional part of the story……and I’m not a Jets fan either!
This is as old as the Adams trade rumors. Can the media accept it’s not going to happen
The Jets could probably be the “frontrunner” if they stand in place for an hour. I suspect all the other teams that once had interest will be doing some speedy backpedaling if the Redskins stand firm on their asking price.
This guy is too old, didn’t play last year, injury prone and will cost us millions if we want to keep him. Lets move on…….we are rebuilding and you don’t rebuild with a 32 year old.
