The Dolphins have agreed to sign former Patriots linebacker Elandon Roberts, according to a source who spoke with Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com (on Twitter).
Before this, Roberts spent his entire four-year NFL career with the Patriots. He’s appeared in 60 games for them and started in more than half of those contests. Last year, however, he was only called upon for three starts.
Playing mostly as an inside linebacker, Roberts has tallied 206 total stops since 2016. The former sixth-round pick is just the latest Patriots player to leave in free agency this week. The list, which figures to grow, already includes:
- QB Tom Brady (Buccaneers)
- LB Jamie Collins (Lions)
- LB Kyle Van Noy (Dolphins)
- OL Ted Karras (Dolphins)
- DB Duron Harmon (Lions)
- DT Danny Shelton (Lions)
So are the patriots even going to field a team or are they just sitting out the season? This is ridiculous
This happens every year with the exception of Tom Brady.
Patriots have the equivalent of a draft class of young players coming off injured reserve. They have a stash of draft picks in the upcoming draft including four on days one and two. There’s recent signings will result in three or four compensatory picks next year. So the patriots will be getting a nice infusion of young talent to go onto a roster that has won two of the last four Super Bowls and played in four of the last six. I think they know what they are doing.
Funny how the ex Pat coaches load up on ex Pats. But history says it doesn’t work.
It does, but it’s not usually THIS bad. They always wait for the scraps at the end that they can sign for pennies on the dollar for prove it deals and get the most out of. But usually by the end of day two or beginning of day three, they’ve at least made a few moves. They’ve done nothing, even less then nothing at this point.
Now that Brady is gone, I get it that they don’t need to go crazy trying to spend at WR with how deep the draft will be this year. However, they desperately need a TE still, and in an offseason where there were 65 options out there to take a flyer on at the very least, they’ve done squat. Ebron or Jordan Reed’s corpse are their only options left at this point. The could still be trying to work a trade with Cincy to get Dalton and one of either Green, Boyd, or Eifert. But at this point I’d actually rather see them take a shot at Winston and see if Bill and McDaniels could coach him up. Bringing back Brisett is another option that’s not horrible. Either way, Bill needs to realize that he’s not on vacation right now, and needs to start making moves now that he got his way and Brady’s gone. If you want to show that you’re the one who was the mastermind of the last 20 years, Bill, you might need players to do so.. just sayin..
The pats will have a million picks next year with all the comp picks they will get.
The PATS are focused on Trevor Lawrence.
