The Colts and Giants have been connected to Tom Brady in recent weeks, but Albert Breer of The MMQB has been told “pretty emphatically” that neither club will pursue the future Hall of Famer.
There was talk that the Colts (along with the Chargers and Raiders) huddled up with Brady at the combine, but we heard recently that those rumblings were not true (at least, when it comes to the Colts). Many have speculated that the Colts would make an aggressive push for Brady – they are less than committed to Jacoby Brissett under center and Brady would give them the star QB they’ve craved since Andrew Luck‘s surprise retirement. Based on what Breer is hearing, the Colts would rather go in a younger direction while spreading their ample cap space.
That’s not to say the Colts aren’t big-game hunting at QB. There’s mutual interest between Indy and longtime Chargers star Philip Rivers. Rivers, 38, has history with Frank Reich and Nick Sirianni and the Colts would offer the eight-time Pro Bowler an opportunity to win in his twilight years. The Redskins and Buccaneers may also make a play for Rivers, so the Colts will be evaluating all of their options in the coming weeks.
Back to Brady – no one is counting out a new deal with the Patriots, though there’s increasing chatter that he’s looking to move on from the only NFL team he’s ever known. If he parts ways with the Pats, the Chargers, Titans, and Raiders may be among his most likely destinations.
So in about an hour we’ll see a report: Giants and Colts considering Brady at quarterback.
Not every team is willing to deflate footballs for Brady.
You would deflate your own balls if tom Brady told you to.
…. what?
I wouldn’t be surprised if we find out a couple weeks from now that Brady’s market is much smaller than people have speculated it will be. Sure he has name value but he was pretty average last year, it looked like he faded as the year went on, and is at an age where it’s much more likely that he gets worse than stays the same or improves over last year. I think teams would be better off taking a chance on a rookie or one of the many FA/trade options than hoping Brady can overcome his age and learn a new system. If I had to guess, he stays in NE and they draft a QB to learn under him until he’s ready to take over.
I would think that anybody interested in signing Brady is doing it for the brand because he will make you a lot of money win or lose.
For a year maybe. His brand appeals to those using Ensure meal supplement but the younger fans are more attracted to the brand that is represented by QBs like Mahomes, Watson, Jackson and Murray.
He looked average because the WR group was trash…. which is why I laugh at folks that think someone else (Dalton, Mariotta, etc) is going to come in and breathe new life just cuz they are younger than Tom.
With no talent around them, Dalton and Mariotta suck… just like most QBs do without talent around them.
It surprises me that there hasn’t been chatter about the Pats going after Hooper. Giving him a solid tight end target again to go with White on the short routes would really help open up Edelman and get coverage off of Harry down field. It might even make Sanu a viable target again.
Hooper drives the boat, Chief
I cannot imagine any possible scenario where the NYGs are interested in Brady. Daniels had a pretty decent rookie year, other than fumbles, and that might just be a learning curve thing.
Nor are the NYGs to be .500. What would be the point of a big $$$ contract?
Not sure why anyone would ever see Brady to NYG. They are rebuilding
More surprised to not see him connected to DEN, meaning they are committed to Lock. Elway has tried everyone he can at QB it seems.
That said I don’t get Brady going to AFC West to play Chiefs twice. Now Tenn or Jax make sense. The south is up for grabs and both teams have decent D to help him, the Vrabel connection makes sense as well.
Who on earth started the Giants rumors? It seems insane and this article doesn’t mention the Giants beyond the title and a sentence about how they’re not interested. Which, of course they’re not interested.
dude should break the internet and sign with Dallas
Lol
