Redskins running back Derrius Guice returned to the practice field on Monday. With that, the Redskins are hoping that he’ll be able to take the field for Week 11, when they take on the Jets.
Guice underwent knee surgery earlier this year and landed on IR for a second-straight season. All along, the Redskins planned to bring Guice back from IR using one of their two allotted slots, and that’s exactly what they’ll do, barring any setbacks.
The 2018 second-round pick suffered multiple setbacks in his recovery from last year’s knee injury, so his latest one was a major source of frustration. Despite it all, Guice has kept up the fight, with an eye on fulfilling his enormous potential.
Without Guice, the Redskins have turned to Adrian Peterson, who turned in yet another solid performance on Thursday night against the Vikings. Facing his former friends, Peterson ran for 76 yards off of 14 carries, good for 5.43 yards per tote. Over the last three games, Peterson has averaged 4.82 yards per carry, which isn’t too shabby for a 34-year-old that has been counted out on multiple occasions. Still, the Redskins know that their backfield will be even better with Guice on hand.
Oh great, let’s rush Guice back into the lineup this year, while Adrian Peterson is still covering the fort, get Guice injured again and be with no running backs next year. Redskins front office and coaching staff really could think a little bit further ahead.
Not a skin’s fan… but what about maybe finding out what they’ve got in this guy, seeing if he can stay healthy… then using the off-season to fill the need if there becomes one….
I hear what you’re saying but i think it would be better to split the workload for a week or two to make sure he’s actually healthy and then after that give him if not all the strong majority of the work
No, the bonehead coaches will annoy Adrian Peterson and get Guice hurt again, this time it will be career-ending.
Let the man heal properly. Non-contact training, strengthening for a proper eight months. Then run him into the ground next year on solid pins.
34 year old AD is better than guice in his prime. sad fact but true.
34 year old AD is still among the top ten or fifteen backs playing, regardless of age. Not so sad.
Skins need to be splitting the workload, as AD’s 34 year old body can’t handle 40 touches/game all season without slowing down.
