This has been quite the weekend for the Jets. On Sunday, they piled up even more transactions by claiming four players off waivers:
- K Kaare Vedvik (Vikings)
- WR Braxton Berrios (Patriots)
- DE John Franklin, (Bears)
- DB Bennett Jackson (Ravens)
The Vikings traded a fifth-round pick to acquire kicker/punter Kaare Vedvik just a few weeks ago, but dumped him on Saturday. The Jets, meanwhile, have been looking hard for kicking solutions and they appear to have found their guy with days to go before the season opener. To make room, they cut kicker Taylor Bertolet.
The Jets, naturally, will have to release more players to conform with the 53-man maximum.
John Franklin III (formerly of the Bears) is a CB, not a DE.
John Franklin-Meyers (formerly of the Rams) is a DE.
So did they mess up the team or position? Both CB and EDGE are a need so it’s 50/50 to me.
I’m no kicking expert but vedvik looks like a really nice pickup
Yes he made 1\6 fgs with the Vikes.
Really bummed Berrios got picked him. Was hoping he’d make it through to the Patriots practice squad. With N’Keal Harry hurt and Josh Gordon’s potential to flame out, the Pats really could have used some solid, internal WR depth. I have a feeling that if Berrios sticks with the Jets, he’s going to have some HUGE games against New England.

Why give up a 5th round pick just to cut him a couple weeks later? A 7th I’d understand, but a 5th is a pretty steep price.
Other teams were interested in Vedvik, apparantly hes a great kicker as long as hes the backup kicker.
Because at the time of the trade, he was perfect in the preseason with a couple of 50+ yarders made. There were like 4-5 teams looking at him. So the Vikes over paid so that teams like the Bears and Packers wouldn’t get him.
In addition to what was already mentioned, there were hints that Vedvik would be used as both a kicker and punter. If that actually happened, it would’ve been another roster spot that opens up for additional depth elsewhere.
