The Lions are stockpiling quarterbacks. Detroit is trading for David Blough, acquiring him from the Browns, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (Twitter link).
In perhaps the most minor trade on a day full of minor trades, the two teams will swap seventh-round picks in 2022, Schefter notes. Blough is an undrafted rookie from Purdue who had been operating as Cleveland’s fourth-string quarterback in camp. The Lions are in the process of trimming their roster so this will likely change shortly, but as of right now they have five passers on their roster.
Behind starter Matthew Stafford, they currently have Tom Savage, Josh Johnson, and former AAF signal-caller Luis Perez. Perez was just signed a couple of days ago. Savage started the offseason as Stafford’s backup, and the team signed the legendary journeyman Johnson after Savage sustained a concussion in the preseason. Blough was a starter for most of the past four years at Purdue, earning a third-team All-Big Ten selection last year.
I would have hated to miss the news that these two storied franchises are going to swap 7th round picks in 3 years. We really need a bookmark feature for this site for just this reason.
DOH!
How can you complain about MORE coverage? Like wouldn’t you rather Traderumors be on the ball than not? People will whine about anything these days!
The staff generally do an excellent job of staying on the ball but more coverage (do we really need an update on Clowney every few hours?) doesn’t always equate to quality coverage.
You got that right. Complain about everything and critical of this site daily. If they hate it so much why are they here posting?
Isn’t Lynch cut by Seattle a better option for the Lions?
Is it like the NBA where the browns have right to swap and move up or is it possible they could actually have a worse pick making this trade?
That was my thought. Browns think they will be better than the lions in the 2021 season and therefore “moved up in the 2022 draft”… far from certain. I did this in Madden all the time back in the day, but that was a little more predictable.
On a bright note he did throw 2 passes to Lions players before even playing for them.
lol
Why are they doing this? Too many backups to train and try to learn who’s best.
As a Purdue alum, I was at first excited to see so many comments on the Blough trade. But that quickly faded when it turned out to be another TR thread full of complaints.
