On Thursday, the Redskins placed quarterback Colt McCoy and tight end Jordan Reed on injured reserve. To take their places, they added defensive end Marcus Smith and defensive back Alex Carter.

The playoffs are out of reach for the Redskins, so there was little sense in jeopardizing the health of two key players for Sunday’s wrap-up game against the Eagles. Reed, who has missed the last couple of games with foot and ankle injuries, did not practice this week, so his IR placement does not come as a surprise. McCoy, meanwhile, was pushing to play roughly four weeks after suffering a broken fibula, but the club will now allow him to put himself in harm’s way for little gain.
Smith had a cup of coffee with the Redskins earlier this month and they may be curious to see what he can do in the final game of the season. At minimum, he’ll be an extra body over the next couple days of practice.
Two ways they can go:
1. Bring in Ron Rivera.. switch to his press coverage defense.
2. Bring in Bruce Arians but as HC.. maybe bring back Wizkid as OC … might be ok keeping same defense system so long as they use Bell money for a valuable coverage defener (ILB, S, CB)
3. AFC championship appearance or bust. The answer is not to stick with Tomlin, continue to underachieve , mismanage clock, make questionable late game decisions, failing 2 pt conversations that weren’t necessary in the first place, trying to trip guys on the sideline, failing to repair the secondary after 10 years , infact making it worse; while being a defensive backs “specialist” , annually blowing games to terrible teams, regularly not being mentally prepared for first half of games,,, and never ever having a solution to any of it in press conferences, saying the same things on repeat for the past decade.
If he’s so good at coaching, then someone else can enjoy him, cuz like Lev Bell, Tomlin has worn out his welcome in this town.
