Josh Rosen‘s former head coach isn’t sure that he’d be a fit for the Browns, but Jim Mora‘s comments are not part of a conspiracy to steer Cleveland away from him. The UCLA product will not refuse to play for Cleveland or any other team, a source tells Mike Florio of PFT.
[RELATED: Josh Rosen To Meet With Seven Teams]
This is not the first time we’ve heard speculation about a top prospect trying to avoid the Browns. Last summer, there were rumblings that Sam Darnold could hold off on his draft decision until the identity of the team at No. 1 overall was determined. Apparently, none of this year’s top four QBs have any reservations about the Browns as Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield, and Allen have all publicly welcomed the challenge of righting the ship in Cleveland.
Most prognosticators have the Browns zeroing in on Darnold or Allen, but GM John Dorsey says that the team is still open to all options at No. 1. They’ll meet with Rosen this week and he’s unquestionably in the mix after turning in the best completion percentage (62.6%) and touchdown/interception ratio (26/10) of his collegiate career in 2017.
Well…. duh. It’s not like the MLB where amateur players can basically choose not to sign and go back to school. If you get drafted in the NFL, that’s your team until they trade or release you, or until your contract expires.
Eli must have missed this memo..
That was more of an AFC/NFC thing to avoid conflict with Peyton and the fact that the Mara family as owners are better to play for than Spanos any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
Oh I get it but the fact remains that he could have stayed if he wanted to. Ultimately it was Eli’s choice and he straight up told them no.
John Elway also missed that memo!
John was also drafted by the Yankees.
I thought the la galaxy picked him up
He’s a Bust
So is your comment.

Disagree
giants
I think he will be Ryan Tannehill at best.
He has everything you want a QB to be, but it’s like jay cutler it’s his head that kills him
I think he’s more Matt Ryan he is a better passer than tannehill
Rosen and mayfield are two best quarterbacks in this years draft, but would not use the no. 1 pick on either of them if I was cleveland, because you can’t pass up on Barkley or Chubb who are the two best players and safest picks in the draft!
Rosen has a serious gun. Some of his throws are amazing but he has been hurt every year including high school.
I wouldn’t have a problem getting drafted in Cleveland , my problem would be with coach ego inability to develop QBs. His wings being clipped by gm Dorsey and his track record of wanting certain qbs that are no longer on roster leaves plenty of doubt about HJO. He seems to keep trying to seem significant with his recent comments/exposure to the press. You don’t see much of any other coaches talking about draft to press on this site? If so not very many
Usually how it works.
No worries, Rosen. It’s the other Josh who’s gonna be playing in Cleveland.
I have a question for all the general managers here. If a player is selected with the #1 pick and decides he doesnt want to play, does that team lose that pick or do they get compensated and can that player sign a free agent deal after the draft?
Let me add to that. Lets say my names Josh Allen and my preference is to play for my favorite team(Pats). Can i work out a deal ahead of draft or can i tell teams not to draft me..
I mean yea he could tell ppl not to draft him if he wants, but that would only work for a pick or two. Eventually he’d fall to a point where someone else would take him, either because they thought they could change his mind or to trade him.
For example, Eli actually got drafted by the chargers. They knew he didn’t want to play there and that NY wanted him, so they took him to squeeze a lil more out of NY.
In the scenario you but forth tho, there are just too many picks in between where his talent is valued and where NE drafts.
Most likely a move like this would only cost Allen a lot of money. If he did something like this he wouldn’t fall out of the top ten. So he’d get less money and be forced to play for someone other that the Pats.
You really have to have some kind of leverage to pull a move like this, and the drafted players just don’t have any, which is why you rarely see it happen.
Elway for example threatened to go play Baseball. And while the move worked for him, it damaged his reputation for his first few years in the league.
If a player were drafted and refused to play for that team, the team would indeed lose pick without compensation. But the player would be unable to play anywhere else, unless his rights were traded. Basically same as when a current player holds out.
Josh Rosen is the best QB in this class hands down
It’s all a big guessing game man. I’m a cheese fan I keep being told how Mahomes is the next big thing. They’re all great college quarterbacks for now
Chiefs***
Best QB at getting concussions.
I’m a big fan of Jim Mora senior who could always be counted on to provide some great post game sound bites.
On matters regarding Rosen, Jim junior should just say “Conspiracy…don’t talk about a conspiracy…are you kidding me?”
