Odell Beckham Jr. is likely staying put. A source told Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.TV that it’s “highly unlikely” the Giants deal the star wideout. The reporter acknowledged that the organization could pull the trigger if they were blown away by an offer, but trading him is “clearly not something they want to do.”
Vacchiano writes that Beckham wasn’t necessarily on the trade block to begin with, despite owner John Mara refusing to commit to the receiver’s spot on next year’s roster. The reporter notes that the front office was “listening and they were willing to consider it if the price was right,” and they’d continue to field offers until they sign him to a new contract.
Previous reports indicated that the Giants were seeking a pair of first-rounders in a trade. They lost one potential suitor when the Rams acquired wideout Brandin Cooks, and the Patriots reportedly won’t pursue the receiver. Vacchiano hints that the 49ers could be a team to watch, as the organization could theoretically want a top wideout for Jimmy Garoppolo. Otherwise, the reporter notes that “it’s hard to think of any other team that makes sense.”
The 25-year-old was among the NFL’s top wideouts until an injury cut his 2017 season short. In 2016, OBJ had 101 catches for 1,367 yards and ten touchdowns en route to his third career Pro Bowl selection. However, he was limited to only four games last year, hauling in 25 receptions for 302 yards and three scores.
Aka no one offered them anything close to their insane asking price for their injured bad attitude prima donna.
*for one year of injured bad attitude prima donna.
Spoken like a fan of a team that doesn’t have Odell Beckham on it.
1.) Odell has an insane work ethic. He is always working to take his game to the next level and he is greatly admired by his teammates.
The idea that he is a prima donna is absurd.
2.) Bad attitude is something I hear being thrown around by people who do not understand passion. Odell gets mad when the team is losing. He does need to control and focus that anger a little better, use it to his advantage, but I would hate any player that is ok with losing or underperforming.
Anyway, have fun pretending to know what you are talking about, bud!
You’re kidding right? Seems like you’re speaking like a Giants fan. I don’t think anything you said is accurate.
Is that why he went on a boat trip before a playoff game? Odell was worth the first rounder the Rams put on the table. To ask for additional assets for Odell is a ridiculous asking price
He’s got on-field and off-field issues. He’s a high-level talent. Passionate. Agreed. Doesn’t change that he has problems that some teams don’t want. Could get some bad publicity, and that’s the last thing teams want. Why Ray Rice was never signed. Why Kap was never signed. Why Johnny Menziel was never signed. Just happens. He’s not to their level in that regard but he’s still got issues
Actually those are bad comparisons for a couple of reasons. Whatever issues Beckham has do not compare to the issues the others would/will bring to their team from a PR standpoint. However, the other reason the comparison is bad is if Beckham were a free agent he’d have teams lining up to sign him. Even if he had the issues Rice or Manziel did, or taken the stances Kaepernicke has, he’d have suitors all over the NFL. Why? Because his talent and production would far outweigh the negatives he brings to a team. The others can’t say that.
Speaking of knowing what your talking about BUD….
“needs to control and focus that anger a little better”…..
Wow….what league and games are you watching…..you think that acting like a peeing dog is a good example of a player that is passionate????
And how about the idiotic antics with Norman 2 seasons ago…..was that about being mad about losing too!
He’s a new era athlete that cares more about his instagram status, than about adhering to team rules about conduct becoming a team and league star.
What do you think about that BUD!
Sounds like a fan of a team with Beckham on it
And he was on a boat with Bieber right before a playoff game doing only god knows what and caught with a “white substance “ on video. But whatever
He was great against Packers in playoff game lol
Disappointing, I want him gone. Tired of all his bs
well it seems unlikely they’ll compete. I can’t imagine he would want to resign there and would seem very likely to hold out if tagged. wouldn’t this be one of those get where you can within reason type situations?
In the ultimate team game I’m glad a team like the NY Giants has this guy and not the team I pull for…
They couldn’t give that bum away even if they GAVE two first round picks for him
Terrell Owens 2.0
Poor Jimmy G must be wondering what he did to get dragged into this ridiculous drama. Now he has to convince everyone he isn’t trying to recruit Beckham or have existing Niner receivers replaced.
This is the silliest, most over hyped story on the internet. Give it a rest, already. Nobody outside of NY gives a damn.
A much bigger concern than his public perception to any team looking to acquire him is the fact he only has one year left on his deal and wants an understandably massive contract. That’s the main sticking point for any team making proposals.
Everyone who has commented has been biased. Regardless of whether you are a Giant/OBJ fan or not, the kid can play and thats what matters at the end of the day. OBJ is the most electrifying player the NFL has had since Deion Sanders or Randy Moss. He has a “Rockstar” attitude and many don’t like it or cant tolerate it but so was Deion…many(if not all) the greats had the same attitude. You can call it Passion or being a prima donna, but it comes down to Odell letting his emotions get in the way, which depending on how he shows them with his actions/decisions, it can be good or bad. I call that needing to MATURE and that only comes with experience and a mentor to guide him.
Other incidents like Norman vs Beckham and the recent “Cocaine” scandal are unacceptable and is part of the reason why Giants&Co haven’t given OBJ the money he wants. Also coming off an injury he needs to prove he can still be the same player he is but also stay healthy.
Now about the Giants listening to offers is smart. If they cant agree to a contract and if he will not play for anyteam until he gets a pricey contract extension, the Giants have to prepare and do whats best for the team. What they want in return for a oneyear rental is very high because Odell is a once in a lifetime player that any franchise would take in a heartbeat. That is why it’s unlikely they trade him/get those picks they want because 1) they want to keep him a Giant and 2) if someone is willing to cough up those picks than thats “an offer they can’t refuse”.
Odell is not a problem. He wants to win badly. Looking to see when he was last arrested…….hmmmm can’t find it …. looking to see that he was busted for PED’s. Can’t. All I can find is someone with lots of energy Who might be starting to mature. For that. Reason he will get his Contract WITH THE GIANTS. He’s a Giant for life.
