The Rams have agreed to sign Ndamukong Suh, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). It’s a one-year, $14MM deal for the defensive tackle. The team has also confirmed the deal via press release.
“We are excited have Ndamukong as a part of the Los Angeles Rams,” general manager Les Snead said in a statement. “He’s been an outstanding player in this league and we are looking forward to him being a part of our defense.”
Suh has long been regarded as one of the game’s best interior pass rushers. Now, he is slated to join defensive tackle Aaron Donald and defensive lineman Michael Brockers on the front line of Wade Phillips’ 3-4 scheme. Then again, given their aggressiveness in recent weeks, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Rams listen to trade offers for Brockers rather than moving him permanently to the outside. Brockers is slated to carry an $11MM cap charge this season and the Rams could perhaps use that extra flexibility and draft capital to add an impact wide receiver.
After being released by the Dolphins earlier this month, at least five teams got in on the chase for Suh, including the Titans, Saints, and Jets. The Jets reportedly more money that everyone else but, in the end, he took a little bit less to play in sunny Los Angeles with a chance to win a Super Bowl ring. Suh was also scheduled to meet with Jon Gruden‘s Raiders, but that visit was called off.
Suh has racked up 51.5 sacks and four forced fumbles over the course of his career. The five-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro has also been remarkably durable, missing only two games in eight years.
Suh also hasn’t slowed much with age. He is now 31 years old, but he still managed 20.5 pressures and and 4.5 sacks from the interior last year while grading as the league’s No. 5 defensive tackle in 2017, per Pro Football Focus. Last season, Suh played on 883 snaps for Miami, the second-most of any defensive tackle in the league.

Hope this defense is as good as it sounds like it’ll be!
I’m surprised he took a 1 year deal at 31. I thought this would be his last chance at a long term contract. Hitting free agency at 32 means he’s betting on himself this year to make a major impact and show he’s worth the investment.
I guess he’s tired of losing.
Yup…good for him. Man, am I jealous of this team’s defensive line. As a Raider fan, I would kill for Khalil Mack to have Suh and Donald in the middle taking away double teams.
Mack would top 20 sacks with them pushing up the middle
Not even close!
you must not watch many Raider games, Mack is near the qb with no pressure from any o e else on the team , if he had a legit Defense around him he would be unstoppable. He is double teamed nearly every play and still get a his 10 sacks every year
He might be trying to rid himself of the “only chases the money” branding. That or the Jets were the only team to offer a long-term deal and the Rams offered the highest one year value.
Haha! He just got 13 mil.
1 year deals are a long term contract in the NFL. Sign a 2 year, they cut you 2nd year. Sign a 3 year they cut you year 2.
RIP NFC West QBs. Please Niners, do something to get Nelson from Norte Dame in the draft
Rams have changed their entire franchise around and its no coincidence the team became competent once Jeff Fisher was canned
But you ignore the fact that a majority of the roster was brought in by Fisher.
Did you ignore the fact the Fisher couldn’t get production from ANY QB’s that were there? Hell, look at Keenum’s progression once he left. It’s Fisher’s fault he didn’t hire the right personnel to develop QB’s
but then again Fisher sucked with that talent
It was the same thing with Kerr and Jackson and the warriors.
Wow now the rams defense has added 3 very expensive locker room cancers and guys that are hard to control and keep happy in Talib Peters and now Suh….. no way in hell those 3 on the same team and they run into major in house problems. Good luck LA :/
I wouldn’t use the term cancers, but I agree with you that there are now some huge egos on the roster that will want to be stroked. Wade Phillips is a top DC and a no nonsense guy so it will be interesting to see if he can keep everyone in line. Obviously marketing played a partial role in these big name signings but the Rams have to be careful this doesn’t turn into a circus.
It’s funny how can’t find ANY teammates that have said anything bad about Talib/Peters. Matter of fact, all I’ve seen is disappointment from teammates that they’re gone. So keep on pedaling all these misconceptions of what you see ON the field into what happens in the clubhouse. I can’t say the same about Suh, but Peters/Talib have been solid locker room guy, b/c contrary to what most fans think, PLAYERS like guys that can help them win.
That interior of the defensive line is scary. If the Rams are able to get a semi-consistent pass rush from their outside pass rushers, opposing QBs are going to be under pressure all day. For how much Suh was overpaid, and possibly overrated, he’s still a dominant interior presence that demands constant attention and draws double teams. Pairing that with Donald is really going to alter team’s gameplans if the two of them mesh well. Teams are basically going to be forced to leave their tackles on an island so the three interior linemen (and any running backs) can try to handle Donald and Suh.
Bold prediction here cotton…the LA Rams will lead the league in penalties this year
They could also lead the leauge in wins
Makes the Rams even more relevant
Wade Phillips is certainly being given the reinforcements he needed
