The Giants aren’t shopping Odell Beckham Jr., but it doesn’t sound like they’re ruling out a trade either. When asked about the wide receiver at Tuesday’s owners’ meetings, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said, “He’s on our team right now,” (Twitter link via Adam Schefter of ESPN.com).
Shurmur’s comments echo those of owner John Mara who recently said he is “tired of answering questions about” Beckham’s behavior and refused to say that “anybody is untouchable.” Meanwhile, OBJ is considering a holdout if he does not get a lucrative extension that will take him beyond the 2018 season.
Earlier this month, a video appeared to capture Beckham getting involved with drugs. His mood swings have also caused some headaches for the team in the past, though Shurmur’s new administration will try to help him stay focused on football.
Reading between the lines, it sounds like Beckham can be had via trade, but it would be extremely costly for any team acquiring him. The Giants still seem set on winning in 2018 and they’ll need a big return in order to replace Beckham’s production. As it stands, Brandon Marshall and Sterling Shepard are the next best wide receivers on the Giants’ depth chart.
If the Giants were to trade him, I like OBJ on the Rams and 49ers
Two teams at once? Man, that would hurt.
SF and LA aren’t that far, if he left at halftime of a noon-er, he could maybe make the second half of a three-er. Duh
I know the Giants would never trade him in division but he’d be perfect for Dallas after they cut Dez.
Dallas has no cap space.
I don’t know what team would offer premium picks for a guy who is coming off a broken ankle, wants a massive extension and has a video of him under review that has hookers and cocaine involved… Not to mention he’s a pain to deal with regardless of the stuff mentioned above.
While smoking a blunt
Browns are the only team that stupid
It’s the browns there the only team that can afford a big contract extension for OBJ and have the most ammunition to do a deal with the giants
The Browns have enough problems with their team (Josh Gordon substance abuse suspension) without adding a known distraction with a penchant for hookers and blow.
Kaepernick gets a bad rap but at least Kap was protesting a matter of principle, not just creating pointless trouble.
Brockers and maybe a 3rd this year and conditional 3rd/2nd next year for Beckham? Brockers looked good at times as a 5 technique last year and with Suh in LA he might be expendable. The 2019 pick could even be a 2nd/1st rounder depending on Beckham stats. Giants D could use Brockers to reinforce their switch to a 3-4, and Rams can pay for the OBJ headache.
The browns should at least entertain the conversation. They’d have with OBJ arguably the top receiving core in the league and playmakers on both sides of the ball. Could honestly make a run at the AFC North.
The key is what would it take to get him, swapping #1 for #2 and one of our second rounders? I’d do in a heartbeat if he’ll sign a LT deal.
No, it will take more than that. Have to give up the no. 4 pick, and maybe one more in the 2nd or 3rd.
A run at the AFC North? LoL! Ok sure!
