Tony Romo has long been linked to the Texans, but it sounds as though the Texans do not want to trade for him. Or, at minimum, they are working hard to give off that impression. The Cowboys’ asking price remains too high for Houston’s liking and they are still not interested in working out a deal with Jerry Jones, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com (Twitter link) hears.

With a talented defense already in place, a quality quarterback might be the team’s biggest need as they look to position themselves as contenders for 2017. As it stands, Tom Savage is the team’s No. 1 QB. Romo offers far more experience, but he also comes with injury concerns and a bloated contract. It’s also not clear what Jones is seeking in a trade and it’s possible he could place a premium on an intra-state swap. It would make sense for the Texans to have sincere interest in the veteran, but they might also be better served by waiting things out to see if Dallas might release him instead.
Lately, Broncos GM John Elway has been saying that he is content to go into the season with Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch as his top quarterbacks. In theory, that could leave the Texans as the most likely landing spot for Romo, but right now they are unwilling to play ball with the Cowboys.
Why would any team trade for him? Makes more sense to just wait for him to get released…..and avoid that contract.
In a world of just one buyer, you are correct. In a world of many bad NFL quarterbacks, there is competition for an old guy with injury history.
Umm I’ve got agree with the first commenter. Even in today’s league of very few good starting qb’s why would anyone give up an asset of any kind for damaged goods. Either the cowboys know something we don’t, or Jerry Jones is trying to use reverse psychology to Yankee swap Romo for an iPod, when he’s really Phyllis’s boring old oven mitt
At least Kevin got his foot bath
Jerry doesn’t want headlines going to Houston instead of Dallas. Simple. He’d rather send him to the Broncos. Heck I’d see him shipped to the Redskins before the Texans. Could you imagine Cousins traded for the #2 overall pick lol.
Jerry Jones is a terr8lible human being. He thinks he owns the league, and he will trash anyone at anytime to get what he wants. Does he really think he’s going to control where Romo plays? What a joke.
Romo is signed with the team he owns, so yes. He can decide where he goes
Yea… Romo is under contract still for 3 more years. Jones doesn’t have to actually do anything. Romo can be the back-up and get paid they can make it work with the cap, retire, get traded, or get cut. Jerry will figure out what is best for his team over Romo even though he likes Romo a lot.
They only way ole Jerry can choose is if Romo stays in Dallas for 24 million a year, and he is more than welcome. Otherwise he is going to have to cut ties and hope Houston isn’t Tony’s landing spot.
