Jabrill Peppers played both linebacker and cornerback at Michigan, but nearly all NFL teams view the draft-bound prospect as a safety, he told the Associated Press. Peppers is on board, saying, “I didn’t play safety, but I’m going to be a safety.” While one club informed Peppers it would use him at linebacker, another had an outside-the-box idea. “One team told me they thought I should play offense,” revealed Peppers, who did see time on that side of the ball at Michigan last season. Peppers rushed 27 times for 167 yards, caught two passes and scored three touchdowns. He also fared well in space as a punt returner, posting a Big Ten-leading 14.8-yard average on runbacks.
More from around the game:
- Ravens college scouting director Joe Hortiz is the Rams’ top choice to take over the same position in Los Angeles, reports CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora (all Twitter links). The Rams have shown interest in Hortiz in the past, notes La Canfora, who adds that Baltimore wouldn’t be able to prevent him from leaving. Los Angeles started reshuffling its scouting department when it dismissed four evaluators on April 9.
- The Rams are also making changes on the field, with several familiar names apparently set to switch positions as the Sean McVay era begins, according to Myles Simmons of the team’s website. Contrary to a prior report, the signing of left tackle Andrew Whitworth will not force Greg Robinson to shift to guard; rather, Robinson will head to right tackle, leaving Rob Havenstein to move inside. Elsewhere, cornerback Lamarcus Joyner will play free safety and Maurice Alexander will take over at strong safety in the wake of the team’s addition of Nickell Robey-Coleman, who’s primed to handle Joyner’s old job as a slot corner. Finally, Robert Quinn is transitioning from defensive end to outside linebacker, though his role as a pass rusher will remain the same.
- Utah offensive tackle Garett Bolles visited the Texans on Monday, tweets Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. With potential first-rounders in Bolles, Alabama’s Cam Robinson and Wisconsin’s Ryan Ramczyk on their radar, it’s clear the Texans are strongly considering taking a tackle with the 25th pick in the draft.
- The surgery Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster underwent on his right rotator cuff in February won’t keep him out for any portion of training camp, his agent, Malki Kawa, announced Monday (on Twitter). The soon-to-be first-rounder is “ahead of schedule,” per Kawa.
Jabrill is overrated af. He doesn’t have the coverage skills nor the hands for safety, he can barely tackle for a linebacker, he has little offense experience, again, no hands. He’s only a decent kick returner at this point.
Yet…. he’s 100x better than you. Better to be overrated than NOT rated AF
Okay well that point is moot. The fact that your reasoning is that he “a better player than you, so shut up” essentially invalidates whatever point you are trying to make So good job? I guess.
Basically what I’m saying is that he’s a jack of all trades that isn’t a master of one. He can’t play safety, he can’t play linebacker, he can’t play offense. The comparisons to Charles Woodson are just more fluff to the fire. The man isn’t, nor will he ever be the player that Woodson was and shouldn’t be a first round pick. Basically teams are awed by “versatility” this is the label that Deone Buchanan got predraft day. Teams were awed by having th flexibility of using him as a safety OR a linebacker. The difference is: Buchanan can actually play linebacker and safety.
Hell, even if he is better than me in a sport I don’t even play, I can still judge a man who repeatedly gets burned but mild receivers, drops picks, looses tackles and muffs punts. So say what you will, he’s overrated due to team’s phantom projections that he can play anywhere and everywhere ala Ben Zobrist style. It’s all fluff and hype that will screw a team in the long run.
The FACT that YOU think you know more than people who actually evaluate for a living makes your comment NONSENSE. PLUS… you used Ben Zobrist as an example, that REALLY makes your comment STUPID. Zobrist getting paid a pretty penny to be a good player at all his positions. Try again, tough guy
So you are agreeing with me? I said that there is a difference between Zobrist and Jabrill.
Zobrist is getting paid for his versatility, the difference is, Zobrist can actually play all his versatility positions with skill. Jabrill cannot. That’s why I used Deone Buchanan (which you didn’t even mention at all, so I’m guessing you just read the last paragraph and decided to comment) there is only one or two players who are akin to Peppers so called “versatility” Deone is one due to his ability to play both Saftey and Linebacker with above average effectiveness. Jabrill cannot boast that.
Clearly you haven’t watch Peppers actual game tape, just his “highlight videos” the man repeatedly gets burned, he has no hands, evidenced by his low college interception totals, and muffed punts. And the man cannot play offense either.
He boasts versatility, when he can’t even play a position correctly. I think I can judge a man on his ability to play safety if there is videos of him getting destroyed in coverage and him dropping picks. So… go again man.
“The Michigan” takes “tsolid” to the house!
Put down your POM POMS Trevor. I can see up your skirt
Its “The Michigan” all over tsolid! tsolid got pants by the Michigan
So if Bill Polian or Bill Belichick says hes overrated your argument is still true.. Jabrill is 100x better than them. So where does your argument go from there? The only thing that is AF is how pointless your comment was.
Peppers trying to be the next bob sanders.
Why can’t we all just get along?
