The Packers have agreed to sign free agent tight end Lance Kendricks, according to Adam Schefter and Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com (Twitter link).
Green Bay has now added two tight ends in two days, as the club inked Martellus Bennett to a three-year pact on Friday. Kendricks, 29, should slot in behind Bennett as the Packers’ No. 2 tight end, joining a position group that also includes Richard Rodgers. But don’t worry, Ted Thompson: Kendricks was released by the Rams this week, so he won’t count against the compensatory pick formula.
Kendricks was in the midst of a contract that was supposed to pay him $18.5MM over four years. Instead, the Rams got out of the deal two years early. Kendricks had a career-high 50 receptions last year for 499 yards and two scores in 2016, but the new regime didn’t feel he was worth keeping.
A Milwaukee native who played collegiately at Wisconsin, Kendricks is now experiencing something of a homecoming.
Why are we singing a te?? We just signed Bennett and we have Richard Rodgers.
Probably getting him for a good price. And despite his age, is. Enter than Richard Rodgers too
2 free agents in 2 days is Ted Thompson on drugs or did someone else tack over packers management.
hands team
Great signing. This is another TT special where he swoops in and signs a solid veteran who was just cut as a cap casualty. Putting Bennett and Kendricks out there should help out WRs get open.
Now we just need to sign a couple veteran DBs (House and D. Butler), a running back (Lacy or Charles) and Lang. That would be quite the free agent offseason.
now sign house resign Lang sign a pass rusher then draft a CB,RB,OL,LB in the draft
Step 1: Bogart all the TE’s.
Step 2: ?????
Step 3: Profit.
So I guess the Packers don’t like Richard Rogers or Justin Perillo..
Justin Perillo is on the Bears.
Cook must be so pissed right now.
Cook screwed himself out of millions and playing with Arean Rogers
If I was Jared Cook I’d have told my agent to take what the Packers offered. Did he think he would find a better QB?
Depending on where Cook eventually ends up, he still might find a favorable QB to play with. Though he will likely be signed for less than Bennett, he may even find more endorsement opportunities if he gets his favorable qb matchup in a strong market.
The Giants signed Rhett Ellison, but they may still be in play for him (I don’t anyone would reasonably say Ellison is better than Cook at this point in their careers). NY media market is very favorable to endorsement opportunities.
Depends on Steelers injuries at TE, but he could also slot in there. Ben isn’t exactly a bottom tier qb to catch passes from.
Atlanta could conceivably be in the market for a tight end.
Raiders could be a surprise.
Jacksonville (if Bortles is able to rebound) may pose a solid place for him.
Bucs are coming along nicely and he’d be a good threat to a maturing (mentally and on the field of play) quarterback in Winston.
