The Browns have a new defensive coordinator and there could be more major changes coming down the pike. Coach Hue Jackson has “told numerous associates in and out of the Browns organization” that he would campaign for the team to add a new general manager this offseason, according to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com. La Canfora adds that Jackson has already compiled a list of candidates that he would like to be considered for the position.

The Browns do not currently have a GM but Sashi Brown – the team’s “Executive Vice President of Football Operations” – acts as the team’s top decision maker for the roster. Reading between the lines, it sounds like Jackson isn’t thrilled with Brown’s work in the first year of their partnership.
No one expected Cleveland to do much in 2016, but everything has to be evaluated after a dismal 1-15 season. Under Brown, Cleveland amassed an impressive pile of draft picks, but Carson Wentz‘s strong rookie year has led many fans to question the decision to trade away the No. 2 overall pick.
If the Browns do pursue a GM, they might have some overlap with the Niners’ search.
Totally disagree. Stay The Course for at least one more year!
Not only has Brown been bad, but so has Andrew Berry. We need a real football mind as a GM.
They can’t keep changing coaches and GMs every off season. Stability is almost as important as finding the right guys to lead a franchise. Additionally, if the Browns are truly going with a moneyball approach, a one year sample size isn’t nearly large enough to judge the moves they’ve made and the people who’ve made them. They need to stay the course and complete this season with the same people in place, if they want to take steps forward.
They aren’t changing GMs. They currently don’t have a GM. They would be adding a GM to the group already there.
I’m reading that they don’t have a GM in place…technically hiring one wouldn’t unseat anyone but it could add another football mind into the mix and that may help out when its time to evaluate talent
Precisely.
Agree, also why not let the coach recommend a GM.
it’s worked for my Seahawks
This is old news. They already said they wouldn’t be adding anyone to the front office.
So Jackson is pulling the same act he did in Oakland. A 1-15 coach probably shouldn’t be trying to pull a power play.
I don’t know if it’s as much a power play as it is him just looking to get someone else involved that’s on the same page as he is…it seems like it could almost be more of a bridge between him and Sashi
So funny. The Browns need a new everything. City, owner, entire front office, entire coaching staff, entire team, colors.
Good luck Hue.
And you need a new act. This one is getting old.
Not as old as the Browns act.
Or your mom’s
Yikes
How many of the recent Super Bowl champions have done so without a GM?
Hue sucks at calling plays now he wants to hire his own GM, get Rid of him now and cut your losses, no room for egomaniacs
Yeah, start over again. Great idea for that franchise *eye roll*
You mean the GM by Moneyball isn’t working? Too bad they couldn’t of drafted a QB last like Wentz this year, oh yeah they could have and traded it away. So now they try again, but they will pick a bust at QB. That’s as much of a guarantee as death and taxes.
Here’s a task for you: Look up all of the draft picks the Browns would have lost had they not traded out of #2 and taken Wentz. Then, remember that every time that the Browns have taken a QB everyone bitched and moaned “Who is he going to throw to?” and “Who is going to block for him?”. Do you think that would have changed had they drafted Wentz and not the 9-10 other picks they got?
They did not get 10 picks in the trade that sent Wentz to Philly
No shit, Sherlock. They didn’t just make that trade, though, did they? They made that trade with Philadelphia, then another with Tennessee, and then subsequent trades with other teams involving the picks acquired from either Philadelphia or Tennessee.
