10:07pm: Harris’ apparent suicide took place in a vehicle as he was being pursued by authorities, according to a Harris County (Texas) Sherriff’s report (via ESPN.com). A female family member called police and indicated Lacy discharged a firearm into the ground during a verbal argument Saturday night. Lacy then fled the scene in a vehicle, according to the police report.
Authorities’ pursuit of Lacy ended after a car accident, according to the report, which indicates officers approached the vehicle to retrieve him. Lacy was then found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound; emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
10:28am: Former Louisiana and LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy passed away last night, as Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. Lacy was just 24, and according to WBRZ 2, he died by suicide.
Lacy’s size (6-3, 212) and route-running acumen made him an intriguing professional prospect. After playing the 2023 slate in the shadow of Brian Thomas Jr. and Malik Nabers, Lacy made the most of his chance to take on WR1 duties for LSU in 2024. In his final collegiate season, he hauled in 58 catches for 866 yards and nine TDs, and he was on track to hear his name called at some point during this month’s NFL draft.
His draft stock took a major hit as a result of his alleged involvement in an accident that left a 78-year-old man dead and injured several others. Although the vehicle Lacy was said to be operating did not make contact with the other vehicles involved, prosecutors say Lacy was passing several vehicles in an area where passing was not permitted. A car in the oncoming lane abruptly braked in order to avoid a collision, and the car behind them swerved left into oncoming traffic to avoid rear-ending the first vehicle. That car then collided head-on with the car that Lacy was allegedly attempting to pass. Lacy then allegedly drove around the crash and fled the scene, failing to stop and render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement in the crash. He declared for the draft two days later (via Fox8Live.com).
Lacy turned himself in about a month after an arrest warrant was issued, and he was released on a $151K bond. Per WBRZ 2, a grand jury was scheduled to start hearing evidence in Lacy’s case Monday. He was facing charges of negligent homicide, hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle. His attorney had argued that another driver, not Lacy, caused the fatal accident.
We at PFR offer our condolences to Lacy’s friends and family, as well as the friends and family of Herman Hall, the man who was killed in the collision. We also offer our best wishes to those injured in the accident.
How do these kids. with such bright futures, end up making dangerously bad choices? Was there no one at LSU who could’ve mentored this young man? Everything about this story is just wrong..
Because they are kids…
Sorry someone 24 years old is not a kid you are an adult.
Barely.
Playin WR at LSU comes with heightened responsibility, barely an adult super an adult; doesn’t matter, decision making has to be constantly on an elite level, terribly sad story for everyone involved
Your brain doesn’t finish developing until your early 20’s. I survived all the dumb stuff I did at that age by blind luck. RIP Kyren.
Word. Looking back at my 20’s, I don’t know how I made it to my 30’s. He just wasn’t as fortunate.
I’ve been a Bears fan since the early 60s so that’s my excuse for why my brain never developed 🙂
So have I. Wait, What?
You didnt survive by blind luck, by Gods grace on your life is the reason you have made it this far.
Probably undiagnosed depression. You suffer from that, all rationale goes out the window. It cripples you. RIP, Kyren.
Because many don’t have fathers that discipline them.
Sad all around. Prayers for everyone involved. Just really sad situation.
RIP.
Most young people who do stupid, inconsiderate stuff like this avoid any kind of consequences or bad chain reactions but some end up ruining their lives over something stupid.
He was recklessly driving but I’ve seen plenty of young drivers speed up and pass cars or drive on the shoulder. It’s what immature people do.
It it a little ridiculous to charge him with negative homicide or hit and run when he didn’t actually hit anybody but he definitely caused the accident with his actions.
No it wasn’t. He was completely at fault and someone died because of his actions behind the wheel.
How would you feel if that was your family member he killed? Ah, just give him a warning, it’s no big deal….right?
Actions have consequences.
Love the hyperbole because I said somebody who didn’t hit anybody shouldn’t be charged with anything other than reckless driving.
You people crack me up with your selective morality and selectively tough on crime stances.
Still innocent until proven guilty
What’s that got to do with anything?
His reckless driving at high speeds caused a crash that killed someone. He left the scene and didn’t turn himself in for over a month, that’s usually to clear drugs/alcohol out of their system to avoid a DUI. None of that is a mistake.
You don’t get to just assume someone was on drugs so that you can celebrate their sulclde. Some of you are gross
Calm the dramatic response, no one celebrated anyone’s suicide.
Negative homicide?…..not familiar with that charge.
Didn’t notice that. Autocorrect changed it from negligent.
RIP. So young man smh
Mixed feelings about the car accident. We’ve all been there where someone is going slow and we go around them on one way lanes. I have it happen to me constantly driving up and down California. If I’m not going fast enough people will pass me by heading into the on coming lane
“ Lacy then allegedly drove around the crash and fled the scene, failing to stop and render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement in the crash. He was facing charges of negligent homicide, hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle.“
I get he should face some form of punishment but seems like they were throwing the book at the kid for no reason. Like how can he be charged with hit and run when he didn’t hit anyone lmao.
Still such a tragic turn of events for the young man to die especially to take his own life. No doubt the “justice system” over charging once again led to this, which is just sad.
lol his own stupidity led to this. He deserved the charges and he also tried to cover it up. He was going to be locked up a long time for his own stupidity, he was never “over-charged.” Sorry not sorry.
So you’re fine with being charged with a crime if you yourself one day don’t
Stop and render aid if you pass by an accident on the free way
Call 911 if you happen to notice an accident robbery or any crime being committed?
lol ok boot licker. Just ask daddy government to press their heel into your neck harder.
Seems extreme to charge people with crimes for failing to stop and render aid and not calling 911. But hey if you wanna live under those type of rules go for it.
Like I said. Kid should face some form of punishment
But being charged with hit and run when you didn’t hit anyone is stupid. Like charging you with animal cruelty if you accidentally run over a wild animal on the road.
Kid was 24 years old. He behaved recklessly and caused a fatality and fled the scene. If it was a member of your family that died what would you want the charges,to be? Tough penalties should be used as a deterrent.
“New information obtained by WBRZ says Lacy was arguing with a family member shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday. He reportedly pulled out a gun and shot it at the ground before leaving the area.
About 30 minutes later, a constable spotted Lacy driving and attempted to make a traffic stop. Deputies said Lacy refused to stop and was chased for several miles before crashing.
A report from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office says that when deputies walked up to Lacy’s vehicle to take him into custody, they didn’t realize he shot himself during the pursuit and before the crash.”

Wow.
RIP 🙏
Wow one bad decision with devastating effects
Very sad
Sad for his family, but otherwise, boo-hoo…. “Lacy then allegedly drove around the crash and fled the scene, failing to stop and render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement in the crash.” He knew he did wrong, he was an adult, aged 24, not some 15 year-old.
Kind of agree with you Lou I think it was more than a bout of depression that fueled it. More like the crushing realization that his dumb actions caused somebody else’s death that did it. Still suicide as cure for what ails you doesn’t make much sense unless you are already dying of a long painful illness and should be able to choose for yourself. He really doesn’t get to atone and deal with it anymore now does he? So how does that help anyone? Anyway it’s still sad whenever someone takes their own life so RIP young man, But your choice really didn’t help anybody in the end.
I don’t think he did what he did thinking it was gonna help anyone.
I don’t think he was a really big thinker judging by his actions and choice to deal with it.
RIP Kyren…..
.
Tragic all the way around. So sad.
Wish the best for this young man’s family and their well being going forward.
Saying that, he took the cowards way out not manning up and serving justice for causing an accident that he may or may not have been a major contributing cause to that cost other lives.
At 24, you are an adult, or man in this situation. If you are old enough to legally make adult choices like voting, drinking, or driving you are old enough to be treated as an adult. If you are not old enough to act as an adult, don’t do those things. Man up and take responsibility for your actions.
Tragic all the way around. Also, what an absolute embarrassment of a comment section.
Why do you say that gronk? I see many giving grievance to the man involved and many also to the other victims. Seems a devided group not going offside for once.
My take on this is a couple things one being if 24-year-old was not weaving in and out of traffic would this accident of happen. I would say chances no it would of not. If he was driving with the flow of traffic being slow or at speed limit posted accident this accident would not of happen.
The other take is driving in general is a question what does a posted speed limit sign mean? In definition it means the speed is limited to what is posted period end of story by law. It really does not mean you go 5, 10 15 etc… faster than what is posted. It is for your safety period. I have no problem with going fast but if posted as a speed limit, that is what the word limit means, the limit is the top speed posted.
