With interest from the Giants waning, the Steelers are now considered the favorite to land Aaron Rodgers.
It is reportedly a “safe bet” that Rodgers signs in Pittsburgh, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, though the unpredictable quarterback’s timeline remains unknown. He spent six hours visiting the Steelers last week, but left the team facility without a deal.
Neither side appears to be in any rush. The majority of free agency has concluded, and there’s still a month until the draft. Until then, Rodgers remains one of the biggest stories in football, much like his 2023 move to the Jets. He certainly doesn’t shy away from the attention, which will continue until he makes a decision. Florio even speculated that Rodgers could use an upcoming Pat McAfee Show in Pittsburgh as a launching pad for his tenure in black and yellow.
The Steelers, meanwhile, already signed Mason Rudolph as a veteran bridge or backup quarterback and could pursue a continue partnership with Russell Wilson. He is still a free agent and has emerged as an alternate option for Pittsburgh if they don’t sign Rodgers. In short, he is not the Steelers’ only option to start at quarterback in 2025.
The inverse, however, might be true. The Vikings are out on Rodgers, and he hasn’t been linked with the Titans or the Browns. No other team has a clear starting opportunity to offer. The NFL’s annual quarterback carousel has started to slow down, and when the music stops, Rodgers may have no choice but to accept the Steelers’ offer if he wants to start this season.
No idea of how to feel about this. Unless Rodgers can play at a high level until he’s 45 or 50, it’s another chance to kick the can down the road
I don’t know if the can even moves with a Rodgers signing. I’m not an expert WB evaluator but know a good QB can win you games you should lose and bad QBs lose you games you should win. The Jets lost a lot of games they should have won for what that’s worth.
Signing him wouldn’t stop them from picking a round 1 QB.
Not signing him the same way.
Signing Aaron Rodgers seems like an appropriate punishment for putting your team in the position where your best option is signing Aaron Rodgers.
What happened to the Steelers? Pretty much have to turned into Last chance U for washed players.
I just cannot support this team if they go ahead and sign Rodgers. It would be the absolute worst decision they could make, both for the present and for the future. It would cement the idea that the goal is to be respectable, not win a championship.
Real contenders retrench and start over every so often when they have to. But not these guys. And it’s freaking absurd.
I have found my interest in sports really waning in the past few years, even our local teams. I thought it was age and being a dinosaur who fondly remembers the olden days
But the steady diet of Antonio Browns, Martavis Bryant’s, Chase Claypools, Diontae Johnson’s, Kenny Picketts and Ben Roethlisbergers have finally gotten to me
Add all of that to the steady hollers that hey, Tomlin’s never had a losing season and now this continuing circus and clearly, feeding pigeons in the park looks like the better option
I’m right there with you. Did you know since the Steelers last playoff win, the patriots have won 2 super bowls, rebuilt around Mac Jones, and then rebuilt again around Drake Maye.
In that same time, the eagles won two superbowls with two different quarterbacks and two different coaches.
I’m with you on restarting if you know your team isn’t good enough. Who knows if drake maye will work or not but at least the patriots and other teams realize that you can’t just be average. The eagles had a superbowl winning combo and kicked them to the curb. You need to bring it down to the studs sometimes to build it back up again
No the absolute worst move would be drafting the wrong quarterback this year with their first round pick.
Aaron Rodgers is already being a diva for Steelers fans and he hasn’t even signed yet. This is like Aiyuk from last year
If your best option for QB is a guy even the Jets moved on from, that’s not a great option. There are enough qb needy teams that if he was still elite or a major asset, he wouldn’t still be available in the most important position on the field.
Jets also moved on from Favre and he took minn to the nfc champ. So they’re not exactly the best at judging careers.
Darnold, Geno…
sign. don’t sign. what’s the difference?
it’s also reportedly a “safe bet” that almost nobody cares what Rodgers does at this point.
Land lol
Lmao they’re just milking this so hard
If he indeed does this via McAfee’s show, we’ll have a close runner-up to LeBron’s “The Decision,” when he milked the publicity to death to go to Miami as worst PR move ever
Lmao that was way more entertaining than this crap. Aaron really only has two options MAYBE three if Vikings stop being f#%king indecisive too
Not even close. LeBron disrespected the whole city of Cleveland with how he announced his intent to sign in Miami.
But he didn’t delay it like this lmao
No just went on national tv and trashed a whole city and its fans.
I don’t agree with the ‘decision’.
But when did he trash a whole city and it’s fans? He rejected a team.
I can’t stand LeBron. He seems fake and manufactured, same as Durant. But there is something to be said about how some people take rejection. To them it is personal, deep, layers,
Him leaving was not the problem. He was a free agent and free to choose to play for any team.
Going on national tv to announce it was an insult to the city of Cleveland and their fans.
Do you remember the backlash he got for it? Clearly it was very poor judgement on his part.
Total waste of money, but hopefully another bad Rodgers season—which (his signing) is obviously being pushed by Tomlin—will rid us of both of them.
He loves getting attention.
people love giving it to him
no matter what you think about him he’s still a top 32 QB and Tomlin & Kahn are very desperate.
I’d debate that when you consider all of the headaches that come with signing Rodgers. I think the fact that Pittsburgh is seemingly the only team left with any interest speaks volumes. In a league where plenty of teams routinely make poor choices out of desperation to find a passer, many are passing on Rodgers.
There are 32 teams. So he should be a top 32 QB.
PIT has an away game against NYJ in 2025, should be a fun one to watch.
Also PIT has a home game against GB, which should be even more entertaining if/when Rodgers signs.
Why hasn’t he signed with them yet.well because he’s not sold on them also he must be waiting for a couple teams in mind.niners and vikings that’s my hunch.everyone’s gonna say why would the niners do that well Purdy was not great last year his qbr got worse each quarter and threw horrible picks in 4th quater plus wants massive raise yeah no thanks.
@mz90gu. I think he was trying to sign with the vikings. Steelers were destination #2. He wasn’t going to pick the browns or titans.
Or the Browns and Titans weren’t picking him. Seems like the only team wanting Rodgers is the Steelers. This is embarrassing for a once proud franchise. Even Hayward thinks so
Your hunch is wrong. Rodgers has no takers. The Steelers are sadly a pathetic mess. Good match.
Clearly you’re wrong since multiple teams made him offers already.
Name them
Feeling a really big laugh coming on……..
At this point in their careers, Wilson > Rodgers.
I’d go with “none of the above” and give a rookie a chance. Worst case, you tank and prioritize other positions until the next offseason.
It ain’t like that anymore.
OK, fine. I’ll force myself to listen to “It Ain’t Like That” right NOW. In fact, why not just listen to the entire “Facelift” album?
If you haven’t heard it, check out this show (they do almost all of Facelift, but YT usually makes you work to find them) from 1990. Between the quality of the recording and the performance, might be the best live album I’ve ever heard.

Can you imagine if Ben actually trained like a professional vice a yinzer and he’d still be our QB?
If your goal is to sign a veteran bridge QB then you have to go with Wilson. Mostly because he already knows the system and can probably be had for cheap since there isn’t any other real interest.
Now, if your plan is to tank to draft a QB next year…
A team that is built to win ‘nowish’ and they are counting on Rudolph or Sharon Rodger’s – yikes
Sharon? Really?
They are dancing in Cincy , Baltimore and Cleveland.
Pro Football Rumors “Safe Bet” to post no news Aaron Rodgers article early this week.
I get that “rumors” is right there in the name of the site, but there’s a fine line between rumors based on even questionable information, and articles that barely disguise that the content is AARON RODGERS RUMORED TO :
*pet a dog
*talk on the phone
*sign an agreement with the Edmonton Eskimos
*agree with RFK, Jr that cod liver oil will cure all known diseases and leave your pet’s fur shiny
*join FOX Sports to pair with Tom Brady in the booth
*maybe, might, could, you never know, sign with random team, eventually, since there don’t seem to be many options left
Any team that wants The Aaron Rodgers Show to completely dominate training camp, provide ownership with a list of 10 ex-teammates you must sign this week, and play by whatever rules Aaron Rodgers feels like playing by, is, at this point, welcome to have him.
Then again, any team that believes that it is Super Bowl ready, but for Aaron Rodgers right now, probably deserves him.
Doesn’t Mike Tomlin seem like the last coach in the League to put up with the Aaron Rodgers schtick?
He’ll be a HOF’er based on his achievements. But I can’t wait for Rodgers to simply go away.
