Ever since Myles Garrett publicly aired his trade request, the defending champs have been loosely mentioned as a suitor. It sounds like the connection is legitimate, as Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports that the Eagles’ interest in the star pass rusher is “real.”

It certainly wouldn’t be out of character for the Eagles to take a major swing. As we noted previously, Howie Roseman has a penchant for acquiring big-name players, as the GM was either leading or part of Philly front offices that acquired the likes of A.J. Brown and Jason Peters. Both of those players required first-round picks, which is the reported starting value for any Garrett trade.
“Garrett could be this year’s version of Saquon Barkley for Howie [Roseman],” one GM told Russini. “He’s an impact add and isn’t a free-agent overpay. Howie’s not afraid to try stuff, and it fits where they are as a team.”
Besides stealing headlines, the Eagles naturally have some on-the-field reasons for pursuing a player like Garrett. The team isn’t expected to re-sign Josh Sweat, and impending free agent Brandon Graham is recovering from a season-ending triceps tear. Further, Bryce Huff disappointed after inking a $51MM deal last offseason, leaving 2023 first-round pick Nolan Smith Jr. (and perhaps 2024 third-round pick Jalyx Hunt) as the only sure-things on the edge for the 2025 Eagles.
Garrett still has two years remaining on his contract worth around $20MM per season, and the pass rusher is hoping to reset the positional market with an extension. Even if the Eagles could convince the pass rusher to take a slight discount (and/or reduce his 2025 charge), the front office would still be pinching pennies when all was said and done. Russini suggests that a Garrett addition could come at the expense of the team’s free agent grouping, which includes Sweat, linebacker Zack Baun, defensive tackle Milton Williams, and guard Mekhi Becton (who reportedly wants to re-sign with the organization). The former Defensive Player of the Year would surely be worth that sacrifice, but it’s not like the Eagles have a seamless path to adding him to the roster.
Of course, a potential Eagles trade would be dependent on the Browns relenting to Garrett’s trade request. So far, Browns GM Andrew Berry has rejected the idea of trading Garrett. If the organization does ultimately honor the player’s wish, it sounds like the Eagles would certainly be a team to monitor.
Shew. The Eagles’ defense is already pretty scary…
Good luck. They’ll have to over pay compared to every other team with more capital. Get in line Eggles fans
Howie knows how to run his team. Him and KC’s guy are the best in the business.
KC’s guy is Veach, who did his apprenticeship in Philly with Big Red.
I didn’t know that.
He started as an intern holding Andy’s headphone cable and worked his way up to scouting and nailing his selections. Andy took him to KC and vowed he’d be a GM within 5 years, and sure enough it was like clockwork.
Arty, or in other words Howis knows how and will spend what is necessary to keep his team in contention.
Howie is building a HoF legacy & career in my opinion. Same for Veach. Winning does that!
Such a great draft last year. Two perfect fits.
Always good to look into these things. The worst case scenario is the Eagles drive up the price for other teams.
The birds don’t need luck, the top general manager in the national football League and a roster dripping with super bowl winning talent,is enough to not only fleece the lowly browns but also entice miles to Philly. With that being said, I prefer bringing back Baun and Williams.
LOL. The browns, all compensation rounds equal, will not select the #32 team. Nice try though. Miles has very little voice in where he goes.
It will take multiple # 1’s as well as a two and some three’s for philly to pull off a trade for Garrett. Not just # 32.
All sorts of teams have theoretically have “real” interest in Garrett. The only way to prove it is to offer the Browns something they cannot refuse.
This is different. It’s not covered in this article, but it’s covered in others how a potential motivating factor is not only what he could do for the Eagles but keeping him away from the Commies. Howie will get his guy.
Well hopefully Andrew berry still has a good relationship with ship with Howie and we can get this done.. we still have berry’s brother working in our front office
The way things are going in Cleveland, Andrew Berry might be calling Howie for a job.
Philly will be used to drive the price up. No one wants them to get Garrett and that means someone else will give more than they think Philly will.
Why would the Browns care? They’re in the AFC. The only important game they could face the Eagles in is the Super Bowl–and that’s not happening for the Browns.
For the next few decades
Depends on whether it’s a thus years draft or next. Cleveland can split up the monies owed with a June 1st or later trade. I wonder if Philly could draft the player Brown’s want in first and then flip him along with test of package June 2nd
Cleveland doesn’t owe Garrett any more money. There is no guaranteed money left on his contract so nothing to split up.
If they trade him prior to June 1st they will incur $31M in DEAD monies immediately to their cap. Because they deferred his salary on the books out three years.
Yea… but they can’t just split up their dead cap over a few years like you said. Only guaranteed money.
Philly drafts 30000000 in round 1 , even the woe begotten browns can’t see much value in it
I think, for me, a major question here is not just what team would trade for Garrett, but also how this affects the availability of Denzel Ward. There have been trade whispers surrounding him recently, and if Cleveland decides to fold and trade Garrett, would they do the same with Ward? The Browns are in a desperate cap situation as is, and Ward is currently worth picks. Newsome is expected to leave, but he should be cheaper than Ward and could fill that hole, at least temporarily. I’ll admit that I don’t know if Cleveland saves significant money by trading Ward, but the picks could be valuable if they’re going to rebuild again.
Other than Jeudy, Njoku, Delpit, or Owusu-Koromoah, I can’t think of many long term pieces that they would have afterward to continue competing. Chubb has been injured and will leave, Garrett will likely be gone, and Watson was a bust. Now may be the time to get compensation for Ward as well if Cleveland wants to get started competing in the next couple of years.
Ward is likely couple of concussions away from not playing. He has suffered some absurd amount. He won’t be worth many picks.
You may be right, but he’s also worth something to some team. Whether he’ll be a great return is another matter open to discussion, but Ward will certainly be a draw for compensation of some kind on an open market.
This is clickbait. That’s real nice that the Eagles have real interest. Also, funny that the article said he won’t be a free agent overpay???? He is a trade candidate first off. So he would cost more than a free agent, because he wants a new contract (to reset the market AND 2 1st rd picks). The Eagles are at the very bottom of the Browns wish list. They have the last pick of the 1st rd…the Browns don’t want essentially a 2nd rd pick…they want a mid to earlier pick + extra picks IF they decide to trade him. Nice Philly is interested…I’d want 3 1sts if I am Clev, because Philly 1sts are the least valuable. This won’t happen..
IMO Eagles should do whatever it takes to get Parsons
Just like Saquan, I have little doubt he wants to play for the team he grew up near, but how do you think Philly obtains Parsons? Do you think Dallas trades him to their most hated rival? When he does hit the open free agent market he’ll command far more $$$ than Philly should allocate as they have too much talent that needs the $$$ spread around to.
Not sure Browns can trade Garrett during this trade cycle do to deferred monies issues. It sounds like this is a June 1st trade with 2026 draft picks.
Anyone but Philadelphia
