Recovering from an ACL injury and now attached to a lucrative four-year deal, Brandon Aiyuk hasn’t been nearly as popular on this website as he was last offseason. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s any less available than he was in 2024.
According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the 49ers are open to trading their top wide receiver, and there has been “communication with several teams.” This follows a report from earlier this month that rival teams were sniffing around on Aiyuk’s trade availability.
With Aiyuk set to enter the final year of his rookie contract, the receiver appeared to be firmly on the trade block last offseason. He was connected to a number of teams, including a nixed trade to the Steelers, before ultimately inking a four-year, $120MM extension with the 49ers. Aiyuk tore his ACL in October, ending his season prematurely.
Aiyuk’s injury and extension would obviously change his trade market in 2025. Further, the 49ers’ receiving outlook looks a whole lot different than it did just one month ago. Deebo Samuel is now gone, leaving the organization with some question marks at the position.
Jauan Jennings had some standout performances while filling in for teammates in 2024 but has never topped 1,000 yards receiving, and Ricky Pearsall‘s tumultuous rookie season saw him finish with 31 receptions. The team added Demarcus Robinson to a grouping that also includes the likes of 2024 fourth-round pick Jacob Cowing, veteran Russell Gage, and free agent addition Isaiah Hodgins.
In other words, the team is expected to be especially reliant on Aiyuk moving forward, so it’d be a surprise if the team was suddenly willing to pivot when the player’s trade value is likely at its lowest. The timing of a trade could also complicate things. As Schultz notes, Aiyuk has a guaranteed option bonus of $23MM due next week, and a trade would likely have to be consummated before that date.
So, while both the 49ers and suitors may have interest in a potential deal, it seems unlikely that anything will come to fruition any time soon.
Oh please please please go to Washington hahahaha. I would love to see them keep making more mistakes this offseason
Deebo was a good move for Washington. Aiyuk isn’t needed though.
Deebo is a stud.
Laughing
News flash: no body is going to trade for a receiver who is uncommitted and coming off a acl tear. I would love to see him go but I don’t think he’s worth that much. And I am a niners fan
You all said the same thing about Metcalf getting traded and getting a huge extension.
Diggs is the same kinda guy and got a really nice contract.
Diggs current contract isn’t even remotely close to what Aiyuk got.
For the acquiring team it’ll be a lot closer.
Not only that, but it was just money. Someone has to give up anything draft pick for Aiyuk. Just hard to see a trade being completed. Nobody is giving up a 2 or 3 AND the money for a guy coming off an injury.
Awful extension even when healthy.
It was a perfect storm. They want out. And will eat 30 million to do it. 20 million annum is a steal. This guy will produce. He is amazing. I see raiders. I see jags. More if the eat. Looks like 49ers are making a clean slate. Might be moving off of Purdy. Or shoring up. Love it! Can’t wait!
So, all of the weapons that made Purdy successful are getting hurt or traded or older…clearly now is the time to pay him huge money.
This team missed it’s window.
I’m including Maccafrey (sp?) in your reference to “weapons” getting “hurt” and “older”. Small frame coming off injury. Oof. Done at 29?!
Most RBs are done by 28
And McCaffrey always played run-through-the-man yards-after-contact even on his breakaway plays. Tony Dorsett credits “run for the sidelines” for his long, relatively healthy career. Mostly out-of-bounds in the nick of time, nice opportunity for illegal hit penalties from frustrated linebackers.
Ahh yes. ALL of his weapons. BA who was hurt or not playing all last year and Deebo who was always hurt. Huge losses. Mason was fine, but literally anyone plugged in at RB in that offense seems to do well.
BA, Kittle, Pearsall, CMC, Jennings (who was their best and most consistent receiver.), and whoever else they add in the draft or before the season.
There is still a huge list of FA WRs out there right now.
I’m not sure what exactly you’re saying here pilesofsandwich…. the 49ers are way below average offense with Purdy, Kittle, Pearsall, Jennings and any bum RB at the skill positions.
You’re really discounting and disrespecting how impactful CMC is for any offense. And I am an absolute Purdy fanboy.
That O line and scheme makes damn near anyone a 1k yard RB
Huge list?
It’s easy to plug any RB into that offense when it had the WRs, TE and OL. They trade Aiyuk then teams don’t fear the pass as much.
Better hope CMC can be healthy and open up the pass game
Well I guess they have decided to go into a rebuild mode !! Probably means they will go after a WR in the first, get no protection around Purdy !! he will go down w/ injuries and Mac will start. Bottom Dwellers we will go !!
Nobody they lost in free agency or got cut played much last year, were particularly effective. They still have kittle, Jennings went for almost 1k last year, piersall went for 400 after getting shot, CMC will be back. I would bet my house they don’t go receiver until round 4 minimum
What would you rather see, out of curiosity-heir to Williams at tackle, or additional WR to develop behind Jennings and Pearsall?
The only thing that should be an option beside tackle is edge, but they’ve neglected the O-line far too long. If you’re paying purdy around 50 mil you better protect him. Their biggest travesty this off-season would be if they don’t find a new center.
Makes sense to me.
Vegas bound. Book it
I see this. Henery Ruggs the 4th. Lol 😂
Im sure they are, damaged goods. They would be ecstatic to get out of that contract
Why would they trade him? A pre June 1st trade they actually lose cap space
Why did they not trade him last year then? If they did not get what they wanted last year chances are they won’t get it this year.
They are willing to eat. Looks like a breath year on a brock 1yr. Lol. 😂 freeing cap for 2027 lol
Aiyuk and a 4th to the Steelers for a steak dinner.
Patriots still have $70 million to play with. Pairing him with Diggs, Bourne, Pop would be a HUGE improvement in the WR room in New England. Trade back and take Warren, then trade back into the first for Banks at LT and the patriots offense looks pretty damn good.
Trade back for Warren? He doesn’t fall past the Jets at 7. Hell, Jags may take him at 5. If the Pats really want him, they take him at 4. I don’t see the Raiders wanting to trade up.
Warren could easily fall outside the top 10 depending on team priority
Consensus so far is
TEN taking Ward
So rest of top 10 could be
CLE – sanders carter trade
NYG – Hunter seems most likely
NE – WR/OLINE or Carter for Vrabel defense
JAX – Mason Graham is a common mock to pair with Allen Hines and Walker
LV – Jeanty is a common mock but they could also go defense with Johnson at cb or edge to pair with Crosby
NYJ- could easily take Will Campbell first tackle off the board to protect fields
CAR – could take McMillian for Young could go pass rusher
NO – oline or edge
CHI – oline tackle or interior guard
So Warren could be top 10 at NYJ, CAR, CHI but could also fall down the board. I don’t see him getting past Indy at 14 but worst case scenario I see him is Seattle at 18.
You think any of the secondary QBs make it to the Giants 2nd pick? I feel like they want to go with something like Hunter and then Dart or Milroe who they could comfortably be patient with.
lol
As a 49er fan it was a terrible signing
Agree. Should have traded him when he was in demand and healthy. Why sell low now? Makes no sense
Pats should jump all over this give them Kendrick Bourne (who the HC loves) a 2nd and a 3rd or 4th maybe a future pick if necessary
To take on that contract? No chance you’d have to give up that much. Maybe a 5th? San Fran would do cartwheels to get out from under that contract.
“Brandon Aiyuk hasn’t been nearly as popular on this website as he was last offseason”.
Popular is often incorrectly used instead of “annoying”.
Well 49ers, you paid this scrub way to much and now want to dump him. Sorry about your screw up, but you can keep him. He quit on you and he’ll quit on his new team. Why, because he’s an a**hole that’s why.
Any GM who would even entertain should be fired. Significant knee injury on a bloated contract plus one security blanket was traded the other maybe never the same with all CMC’s injuries.
Purdy is going to struggle
I doubt anyone is asking about him without a discount.
I’m open to a night with Sydney Sweeney but I dont think its gonna happen.
