It was learned yesterday that quarterback Shedeur Sanders will attend the upcoming NFL Combine but will not throw at the event. Several other players will no doubt do the same, and the top running prospect in the 2025 class is among them.
Ashton Jeanty will not participate in on-field work during the Combine, per an announcement from his agency (via Tom Pelissero of NFL Network). He will instead focus on interviews and medical checks over the coming days. Jeanty will then perform workouts during Boise State’s Pro Day.
In recent years, many of the top prospects have opted out of on-field work at the Combine and turned their attention to individual workouts later in the pre-draft process. Taking that route will likely have no ill effect on Jeanty’s stock based on his level of play during his college tenure. He enters the build-up to the draft as the consensus top RB in the class.
Across his three seasons with the Broncos, Jeanty produced several major statistical feats. He enjoyed a stellar 2024 campaign, averaging 7.0 yards per carry and racking up 2,739 scrimmage yards as the focal point of Boise State’s offense. Jeanty’s 30 total touchdowns brought his career mark to 56 and helped him earn All-American honors. The Heisman runner-up cemented his status as the No. 1 option at the running back position in a year where several other prospects are highly acclaimed.
Jeanty has spoken publicly about his desire to play for the Cowboys; Dallas owns the No. 12 selection, and it would come as no surprise if he were hear his name called near the middle of the first round. As Jeanty elects not to participate in the Combine, it will be interesting to see if some of the other running backs who received an invite do so in a bid to help their draft stock.
Good stuff. I’ll be shocked if he’s not the first back off the board. So many teams would like him.
He should be
Oh I bet money he will be. Instant RB1 material imo
He’s a top 5 pick a team who already feels they have qb taken care of will eat him. The bears aren’t trophing water yet. So look for a big push there. 49ers,bears. Titans. Cowboys.
Broncos and cowboys makes most sense imo
Smart since the interviews are the most important part of combine. No point risking a tear like Ojabo from Michigan did that time.
Not willing to participate is part of the interview. All of this is taken into account by GMs. The numbers do not matter as much as the fact he is not willing to be tested. Typical of the current generation though.
Umm they participate in the pro day. It is repetitive to do it twice.
Combine is for measurements and interviews. The on field stuff can be done at pro day. The NFL is also making money off the combine even more by selling tickets. Players get paid in college now so no way are they going to do this for free if they are a lock to be taken early. No one gets penalized for it you are dramatic
Should just cancel the combine and do interviews etc by video. What a waste of time
They just need to stop trying to monetize it. The medicals and measurables are important, but we have enough advanced data now that should make their non-game situation drills obsolete anyway. Confirming health isn’t good television though.
I loved watching it 10 years ago when it came on early in the morning. Rich and Mayock were great hosting it. Now they make it some big ass show selling tickets to fans it has become too much. It was a great way to seethe upcoming guys now.
BS. This is not about the data you already have. It is about the player caring enough to do what he should be doing.
For some reason my wife loves to watch it…can’t figure out why, can’t be the tight shorts?
Probably Mayock. It’s the lisp.
With his workload in college I think it’s smart. Get that extra rest and rejuvenation in and set yourself up for the pro day later.
Rest. lol. These guys train every day. in your mind he gets up at 11 E Att’s brunch comes back home watches a few TV shows goes back out for dinner comes home and watches a couple of Netflix movies and then goes to bed.
He’s trying to drop into the back 15. lol smart.
Some people do not see an issue with this, but if I were a GM and a player was not willing to put it out there every time they had a chance, I would not even consider drafting him in any round no matter the talent. It is a personality and drive issue to me. Also it seems that the players who keep doing this do not live up the the pre draft hype either. A winner, always is willing to put it on the line. Talent is not all that matters.
