The nation’s top running back prospect has officially declared for the NFL Draft. Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty announced on X that he’s heading to the NFL for the 2025 season.
“I’m excited to announce I am declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft,” Jeanty said in part of his statement. “The opportunity to play in the NFL is a dream of mine, and I’m proud to represent Boise State and all of those who have helped me along the way at the next level.”
Following two productive seasons with the Broncos, Jeanty took his performance to another level in 2024. The running back ended up leading the FBS in rushing yards (2,601) and touchdowns (29), leading to him being runner-up for the Heisman Trophy.
That performance also firmly put Jeanty on the NFL map. Jeanty wasn’t very involved in Boise State’s passing attack, but many pundits have labeled the prospect as a three-down back in the NFL. The prospect is all but certain to be the first RB off the board, and there’s also a good chance he hears his name called in the first round of the draft.
Teams have generally been wary of using first-round picks at the position in recent years, with only five RBs being selected in the first round since 2020 (Clyde Edwards-Helaire in 2020, Najee Harris and Travis Etienne in 2021, Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs in 2023). Jeanty should be the latest inclusion to that exclusive list, and there shouldn’t be any shortage of suitors for the dynamic offensive player. The Cowboys have often been mentioned as a landing spot, especially since the player is a native of Frisco, Texas.
Browns or cowboys
I can’t wait to watch him. I watched 4 of their games this year, including the egg they laid against penn state. But he’s amazing. Amazing!!!
I wish he had a better name though. All the great ones have amazing sounding names. Every one of them, with a couple iffy ones sprinkled in. That’s the only thing that gives me pause about him in the nfl!!! lol
I’d be in on the Bears taking him with one of their 2nd round picks at 41 or 42. Take the OT in the first round, Jeanty and the best OG on the market in the 2nd round and either a DT or Edge in the 3rd. They have a bunch of late round picks to take chances on IOL. Wright, Jones, re sign Pryor who’s a good fill in, then sign a C in FA. and we have a good start. Hopefully they’re not stupid enough to trade a draft pick for a HC when there is 6 decent guys to pick from. Jeanty is a stud and Ben Johnson likes RB’s.
He’s not making it out of the first. I’d be shocked if he makes it out of the top 15
I’d agree with you but RB’s are usually drafted later than they should be these days. They can’t draft him at 10 without getting some people to block for him first. Even if they don’t get him they could probably get a darn good RB there anyway or in the 3rd. They need somebody. They need a stud RB and some OL to make Caleb’s life easier. Swift and Johnson are nice pieces but they need the stud RB. They need to draft offense and they can use their 80 million plus to buff up the defense. They have less holes and hopefully Booker makes an improvement next year. They need help on the edge and there were a ton of guys last year. Don’t know about this year, haven’t really looked.
Appreciate the essay, but there hasn’t been an rb like jeanty coming out in years. I’ll bet you my house he doesn’t make it out of the first
Chargers could be looking at a running back. He might be available in the 20’s.
