The St. Louis Battlehawks have released franchise QB AJ McCarron after a messy divorce.
AJ has made it clear that he wants to return to the UFL next season, and preferably wants to face the
Battlehawks twice [this season]…and “put it on ’em”.
Referring to playing St. Louis “twice” would likely infer an XFL conference team.
However the XFL teams seem set at QB.
Arlington Renegades roster both Holton Ahlers & 2024 XFL 1st overall pick Lindsey Scott, two young QBs who didn’t see the field much this year.
And after coming off an 18TD/4INT season, all signs point to “The Spring King” Luis Perez returning to the Renegades for his 6th season of Spring ball. (Across leagues)
DC Defenders haven’t brought back Jordan Ta’amu yet , but the DC QB and 2023 XFL MVP would certainly be a roadblock to McCarron signing with the Beersnake.
San Antonio just signed Kellen Mond, who is likely the highest upside QB in the entire UFL , making that an unlikely fit for AJ as well.
Despite his quote, the USFL conference seems a much better fit for McCarron.
Memphis, Michigan and Houston could all use a QB,
but perhaps there’s no better fit for the former Bama QB than returning to his home state to help the Birmingham Stallions win a 4th straight championship (after graduating QBs Adrian Martinez and Alex McGough to NFL practice squads in consecutive seasons)
Although it’s still possible that the Stallions bring back Matt Corral , that likely wouldn’t effect their pursuit of McCarron.
