With Colorado sitting 18th in the AP Top 25 and the Buffaloes appearing to have taken a clear step forward, coach Deion Sanders has already drawn some speculation about a pivot to professional football. While that could ultimately be Sanders’ ultimate plan, Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz says the coach hasn’t had any “official conversations with anyone” about heading to the NFL.
However, Schultz does seem to be keep the door open regarding a future move to the NFL, as the reporter notes that Sanders’ current focus is on winning at Colorado this season. Sanders’ NFL opportunities would be reliant on an organization’s willingness to take a chance on the divisive coach, and it’s worth noting that he still has three years remaining on his Colorado contract after this season.
Even if we assume Sanders doesn’t get an NFL job this offseason, he’ll still surely be in the news as his son, Shedeur Sanders, pushes to be an early selection in the draft. As Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports writes, the elder Sanders is ready to “step in” if he decides that the “wrong” organization is targeting his son. In fact, Deion’s considerable influence over Shedeur has already led to “significant apprehension” from NFL squads as they weigh the pros and cons of selecting the Colorado QB. While some executives are generally low on the prospect’s NFL future (one described Shedeur as “Tyrod Taylor 2.0″), there was also a sentiment that the player just wasn’t “worth all the extra stuff.”
Still, there will be surely be one team that takes a chance on the player’s upside, even if it means Shedeur ends up sliding down draft boards. Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal recently noted the connections between the Sanders family and the Raiders. Deion has generally been a fan of the organization, including head coach Antonio Pierce and team president Sandra Douglass Morgan. Shedeur has also been mentored by now part-Raiders owner Tom Brady, and the prospect has been spotted visiting Las Vegas multiple times this year.
While it’s uncertain if they’d fit Deion’s lofty standards, the Giants have also been mentioned as a potential suitor for the QB prospect. Members of the organization visited the University of Colorado last month to get a first-hand look at Sanders (per CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones), with assistant general manager Brandon Brown even speaking to the Colorado squad after practice.
The Sanders duo will continue to steal headlines over the next few weeks, especially if Colorado makes a push for the playoffs. For better or for worse, that won’t be the last that we hear from Deion and Shedeur, as the tandem will continue to be central characters during the NFL’s offseason.
He won’t be worth the trouble Shedeur and Deion will cause. This will be the whole LeVar Ball situation all over again, but instead of basketball it’ll be football. Let’s look at how that turned out. Not to good for either the son, the father or the Lakers organization.
Deion has a strong personality and when the going gets tough for Shedeur he’ll be forefront and telling him what to do over what the coaches want him to do. Shedeur and his brother have already shown they have a tendency to unravel and lose their composure in college. What is he going to do when he is a high 1st round draft choice and being paid a lot of money money?
My advice stay away.
Wdym the lavar ball thing didn’t work out? Lonzo and LaMelo have been great in the NBA. Mostly LaMelo obviously.
Vegas will draft Shedeur
And Deion Will be coaching them
That presumes that they are able to trade up to #1 or#2 to get him which is 50-50 given that the trading team (at this moment its the Jags) decide they can get enough of a haul to make that trade…..
This presumes he’s going top 2.
I’d take a chance on Sanders in the late 1st, early 2nd.
There’s just not a once in a life time generational talent at QB this year.
You’ll find some starters for sure cause this years crop I think has better fundamentals coming out of college than in recent memory but the upside ceiling isn’t as high.
As draft standings go I see the
Jags taking Hunter
Giants taking McMillian
Titans going OT / OL
Browns probably take a QB and first one is Cam Ward
Raiders at 7 is probably the likeliest landing spot for Sanders but if teams are really turned off by Deon I’d trade back, gather some assets, and target Shedeur later in the 1st.
But a team like Steelers, Seahawks, Rams who don’t really have a long term answer at QB I could see them taking Shedeur and sitting him a year or 2.
The Steelers would never sign up for these shenanigans. That’s why they are a winning franchise.
Well they kept Big Ben around especially after his escapades in his 20s. If you’re willing to keep around a QB involved in SAs Sanders isn’t that bad by comparison.
Shedeur going top 5
Prob 1
No way the G-Men are going WR with McMillian….they’ll go QB, Corner, or DL….way too many holes to draft a WR without a QB to throw to him……and Jones will. be long gone by the draft…..
So they’ll over draft a cb dl qb with a top 2 pick instead of taking best player available in McMillan.
McMillan and Nabers would give whoever the QB is a decent arsenal. Esp a rookie QB you draft in 2025 or 2026.
Sometimes it’s the long game that pays off.
Titans have taken an O-Lineman in the 1st round in back to back drafts. Skoronski and Latham are a good combo at LG and LT. Pass rusher is a huge need (QB also but I could see a veteran coming in) playmakers at WR are sorely lacking outside of Ridley so that’s an option.
If there was a player worthy of being a top 3 selection on DL they’d consider it. But the “Star prospects” are currently along the offensive side of the ball.
That being said. Levis doesn’t look like the answer. So whoever the QB of the future is you’ll need a line and run game. Dallas spent many 1sts on oline thru the years. Eagles too. Investing in OLine is never a bad strategy. Paying dividends for chargers too this year.
Ryan bite your tongue. We don’t want Seattle to even think about Sheduer. If he didn’t have a trunk full of baggage I would take him. That trunk full of baggage has a huge ego a bigger mouth and thinks everyone should like him because.
Don’t get me wrong he was fast and could cover. Don’t let a game saving tackle fall on him he would never make it.only one person I saw run out of bounds so he couldn’t get blocked that was Deion.
I believe he will bluff force or some way get on the staff of the team who takes him. He will be a distraction and cause troubles. He will want to know why his kid isn’t starting why don’t you give him some time in the game? We have the starting of a really good offense don’t want him in causing tension and splintering that up. This guy will be a trouble maker wherever he goes. Mark my words will cause division and strife in the locker room. Not worth it to most teams.
So the Caleb Williams scouting report
The NFL has done well with their “Hard Knocks” program. Perhaps they can now create something called “The Making of a Diva” featuring Deion Sanders and his son.
Prime wouldn’t make it in the NFL, well maybe for a min in Jerrys World but no where else.
Its crazy how much people hate on Colorado and sanders.
Both hunter and sanders are amazing, and have crazy talent, and the team has been completely turned around from a losing to big winning team.
They may not play the biggest programs, but they are still playing college teams nevertheless.
Lemon you do know how big of a diva he was in the NFL right? He will follow his son to whatever team drafts him. Nobody can honestly deny there is talent there. You have to ask is that talent worth losing your team over? It is kind of sad that he doesn’t show his other son as much attention.
That crazy talent are mercenaries who have been brought in only to play football as if being part of a functioning college is an afterthought….if you only think of NCAA foot ball as being a AAA team for the NFL….your comment is relevant……
So you just described every major college team, especially since NIL
