Davante Adams is indeed set to be traded, and he is headed to his preferred destination. The Jets are finalizing a deal to acquire Adams from the Raiders, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The swap will see Vegas receive a conditional 2025 third-round pick from New York, Rapoport’s colleague Tom Pelissero adds. That pick can become a second-rounder based on Adams’ performance with his new team. Crucially. Pelissero also notes the Jets will take on the remainder of Adams’ 2024 salary. Depending on how he fares with his new team, then, the Raiders could wind up meeting their goal of landing a second-rounder in addition to not retaining any of his salary to facilitate a trade.
[RELATED: Jets Shopping WR Mike Williams]
Providing specifics on the conditional pick, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the selection will upgrade to a second-rounder if either of two circumstances are met. Adams must earn a first- or second-team All-Pro selection, or he must be on the Jets’ active roster for the AFC title game or Super Bowl. Those thresholds certainly make it likely the pick will wind up as a third-rounder, something SI’s Albert Breer recently speculated represented a cost the Raiders would ultimately be willing to accept.
Once it became known the Raiders were gauging the market on an Adams trade (something the 31-year-old preferred to staying put), the Jets emerged as the likeliest destination. After Adams openly remarked about the potential of reuniting with Aaron Rodgers – something the four-time MVP reciprocated – it came as no surprise to learn the Jets were his top target. Now, the two will in fact resume playing with each other after their successful eight-year run in Green Bay.
A number suitors were in the mix with respect to showing interest, but Vegas remained insistent on landing a second-round pick in any Adams deal. Many contenders saw that price as being too steep, and the Jets and Saints held an advantage in terms of providing Adams with a familiar quarterback (Rodgers or Derek Carr, in the case of New Orleans). Recently, those two teams appeared to be the strongest suitors with the Jets in particular acting aggressively to get a deal done. The team sits at 2-4 with a new head coach and offensive play-caller in place, but Adams could spark a midseason turnaround.
The Jets entered Tuesday with just over $17MM in cap space, a larger figure than many of the other teams interested in acquiring the three-time All-Pro. Since Vegas will not retain any salary, New York will be on the hook for $11.59MM this season (the prorated remainder of Adams’ 2024 salary). Two more years remain on his pact, but no guarantees are in place. Working out a new agreement will be key in this situation, and having Adams as more than a short-term rental would help justify the trade cost to add him. Adams has reportedly expressed concern about Rodgers’ post-2024 future with the Jets, however.
Nevertheless, an organization which just fired head coach Robert Saleh and demoted offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett is now making another aggressive move aimed at success this season. The 2024 Jets are the first team led by Rodgers to have a losing record through six weeks. A postseason berth remains the goal, though, and Adams could aid an offense which sits 22nd in scoring. Of course, this move also marks the latest the Jets have undertaken which involves bringing in familiar faces to Rodgers on the field and the sidelines while trying to maximize the remainder of his career.
Adams will now join Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard at the receiver spot with New York. Speculation has increased in the wake of today’s deal that Mike Williams – signed to a one-year deal in free agency – could now be on the move to avoid a logjam at the top of the depth chart and move some money out to compensate for Adams’ arrival. In any case, expectations will increase for better efficiency through the air moving forward.
For the 2-4 Raiders, this move brings an end to a situation between Adams and head coach Antonio Pierce which was marked by a recent increase in tension. As veteran insider Josina Anderson notes, Pierce feels this move is best for all involved. Vegas – a team which is now increasingly short on playmakers and turned to Aidan O’Connell at quarterback for Week 6 – will take on $13.67MM in dead money this year and $15.7MM in 2025 (h/t Spotrac).
With five 1,100-yard campaigns to his name (including both of his full Raiders seasons), Adams will be expected to provide a major boost to the Jets’ offense upon reuniting with Rodgers. If that proves to be the case, the team – which may soon offload edge rusher Haason Reddick and end his holdout in the process – could become a contender for at least an AFC postseason spot. Ending the Jets’ 13-year playoff drought would mark a key success for the team, and it would no doubt quell doubts about general manager Joe Douglas’ job security.
A hamstring injury has kept Adams out of action for the past three weeks, but multiple reports note he is currently at the Jets’ facility undergoing a physical. Once that takes place, this trade can be made official and bring a notable but expected end to the Adams situation. How it affects other receiver deals ahead of the deadline will be interesting to monitor.
Aaron always gets what he wants
imagine thinking theres something wrong with wanting davante adams
Another aging, overpaid wr who is hamstrung with a bad hammy reunited with a over the hill gimpy, grumpy Rodgers is a good thing? Sorry Beg I beg to differ.
He has no bad hammy lol. He just didnt want to risk his body for the raiders
Your grammar is brutal and your comment is nonsensical.
Wait… you’re calling someone out for their grammar after that abomination of a comment?
And he calls himself “teacher”
Wrong word, but excellent Google search.
@DannyDimes2023; yep. Jets don’t do this if hammy is hurt. That said; Teacher has a point. Davante will be 32 in December. Prime? Is it still there or has it passed him? And, of course, same can be asked about Aaron.
In regards to Teachers response to your post. Seems to be his MO when a fellow poster has a differing few/take. IE. takes it personally and attacks poster’s character instead of staying on topic. He did this to me over on the MLBTR site in a 9/16 Tajuian Walker story. All good. Not gonna block him.
Your welcome for correction on both your posts. As for taking comments personally, it seems as if it’s you my friend who is taking things personally, as indicated by you referencing MLB post. Tsk tsk tsk Proper grammar is required for any comment to be taken seriously. Can you spell modus operandi?
Teacher; thanks for getting back to me. I find your level of humility breathtaking my friend.
i know you dont know ball but you really didnt need to make it that obvious
Hopefully you’re not really a teacher… Our youth is dumb enough don’t need the blind leading them any further.
Blind Comments should always be corrected.
murf
Male version of the golden girls
I knew the Jets team as a whole wasn’t very bright, But do they constantly have to keep going out of their way to prove it?
If Rodgers was to retire this off season( Which he should BTW), I would probably laugh so hard I would rupture my spleen. I can think of no more fitting epilogue to the Rodgers-Adams farce. Who’s Woody Johnson going to fire then? Himself? That should probably happen too BTW. LMAO
He’s had issues with fractured collar bones over the years. If he went down who’s gonna throw the ball to tay? Certainly not Erin
Right now his biggest issue is because he can’t run faster than a snail on ludes he’s a prime candidate to get demolished by a DLineman.
Yes! Johnson should definitely fire himself.
Yeah, it’s really nowhere near as bad as some of you goofs are trying to make it out to be.
It’s actually worse.
It’s really not. Team should be 4-2 and has some legit talent. There are 10 teams competing for 7 spots with the Patriots, Browns, Jags, and Raiders various levels of out of it, while it’s likely Miami and Tennessee don’t stay afloat. The 7 seed isn’t going to be an 11 win team.
I’m guessing 8th grade drop out?
Minus the Wins.
Yeah she always gets what she wants that’s Erin
Except for SB rings! Heck, even playoff wins are hard for him to come by as well.
Rodgers already won one.
Sb winner
Hof career
Not much more you can ask for in a career for a QB.
Sure, he has one. But to be considered a top-five quarterback, you need more than one, in my opinion. He also sports a 12-10 playoff record, which is a hair above average in the tournament. Plenty of QBs have one ring as well. Are they all great?
A contemporary of his, Eli M has an 8-4 playoff record w/ 2 rings. Why isn’t he considered better than Aaron?
Because Eli isnt better than Aaron, thats why.
I love how, in a long roundabout way, you just singlehandedly proved why rings are not the only thing to consider when looking at the skill level and career of a player while trying to say Rodgers isnt good.
I never said Rodgers wasn’t good. I said he’s not in the top five. The top five are for the multiple SB winners: Bradshaw, Aikman, Peyton, Brady, Montana, Mahomes, etc. Everyone ranks them differently, but to be considered the best, you have to have the jewelry to back it up.
By your logic, Jim Plunkett belongs in there. As great as all these players were, other than you, there is almost no one who thinks Bradshaw and Aikman were better than Rodgers, or Marino for that matter,
I’d even take Rivers over Bradshaw or Aikman. Both had such great teams. Teams that are considered in the conversation for all time great teams. I love Plunkett but by no means think he was a great QB. Or even put into that conversation. He had some great teams too. I believe Aikman only had one season in his career where he threw 20 TD passes. All the rest were less than 20. I think it was one. May have been two. But you get my point.
In Troy’s case it is the rings and the fact that he was typically excellent in the post-season that got him into the hall. His regular seasons alone would never have gotten him in. I think it was just one season that he threw 20.
No you dont. Again, you came to the conclusion that rings doesnt necessarily make a QB better than another when you pointed out Eli has more. Rodgers is way better than Bradshaw and Aikman lmao
60k yards, 4 MVPs, 5th all time passing TDs, and a SB. You can also simply watch film. I will never understand the energy people devote trying to downplay Aaron and his career. Its mental gymastics and for what?
Additionally, SB rings being a qualifier would only make sense if QB was the only position in football. But its not, so youre on about nothing
All of today’s numbers are skewed toward offensive output. It’s been that way for the last 20+ seasons. To say that quarterbacks from former generations don’t count is ridiculous. Heck, even Aaron admitted that the roughing the passer call for him last night was baloney.
His quote: “Some of [the penalties] seemed really bad, including roughing the passer on me. That’s not roughing the passer. Might as well play Sarcastaball if we’re gonna call those things.”
4 MVPs are 4 MVPs, doesnt matter the time period as its directly applied to comparing him to his contemporaries. keep coping tho
You’re talking apples and oranges, really. Just because Rodgers has won 4 MVP’s, when QB’s of former era’s had fewer MVP’s, doesn’t necessarily mean he is a better QB than them. Rules have changed a lot, protecting l, and helping, both QB’s and receivers.
RB’s used to win a lot more MVP’s. In 1982, a placekicker won MVP. Rodgers was (not is) a great QB, but winning MVP doesn’t mean you are actually the best player in the league.
Saying Rodgers was still the best player among his contemporaries in 4 seasons isnt apples to oranges, its comparing Rodgers directly to the people he played against.
Also, it actually does mean youre the best player in the league that year thats who they give the award to.
Brutal grammar makes your nonsense even more unimpressive and you more foolish. Your jets are the laughing stock of the NFL,cfl and according to oooooof, Jimmy the Greek .
imagine making a troll account on NFL trade rumors to come up with something so uninspired
CFL needs to be capitalized. I’d expect better from a teacher.
lmao Aikman and Bradshaw should not be anywhere near any top QBs of all time lists. Bradshaw was carried by an amazing defense and surrounded by weapons. Aikman had one of the best offensive lines ever, along with a top 5 running back ever. And the Cowboys defenses of the 90s were great (top 5 in PA for a number of years). Football is a team sport. You can be an all timer like Marino or Rodgers without multiple rings.
Im curious
Bradshaw, Aikman, Peyton, Brady, Montana, Mahomes
How many HOFs did they also play with on offense and defense?
How many has Rodgers played with?
And im not talking like someone towards end of their career who is ring chasing.
I know Aikman had Irving, Smith, Prime Time Deon. Probably others.
I know Montana had Rice and probably a few others.
Peyton had Harrison and Wayne and probably a few others. Definitely think Saturday should be in
Mahomes has Kelce (Tyreek may get in if he continues to post numbers in his 30s). Jones may be HOF bound. Creed Humphreys may.
Just curious which HOFs Rodgers has had compared to others.
I’m curious,
How many of the quarterbacks I mentioned, plus the others with multiple rings, built their teams’ rosters?
Now, we must value all-time top five players based on what their front offices did or didn’t do? Come on, that’s nothing more than endless banter trying to protect a player or person you personally like.
According to google, AR had plenty of stout rosters while in GB: Aaron Rodgers won eight NFC North division titles while playing for the Green Bay Packers from 2008–2022:
Rodgers also led the Packers to five NFC Championship games, but they only won once in a conference title game. The Packers reached the Super Bowl once, winning 31–25 against Pittsburgh
Sorry, but you don’t win 8 division titles and have been to 5 NFC championship games w/ below average rosters.
So you’re saying roster construction isn’t important? Well Carolina and Cleveland would beg to differ this year
And you’re saying playing with guys who last 5 maybe 10 years is the same as playing with a hof caliber player for many years? No that’s definitely not true.
Guys who win multiple super bowls usually have pretty good rosters around them. Whether offense or defense or both. And include multiple HOF players.
There’s exceptions like a Brady and Eli who really only played with Gronk as his HOF counter part and a couple years with Revis but overwhelmingly QBs who win multiple super bowls have hof players on the roster
Now. How many HOF players has Rodgers played with in his career? Charles Woodson?
So now the criteria for being great is also based on what the front office did? That’s absurd! Every player could be in the ‘top 5’ if they only played on great teams. That’s your argument?
Who did Eli play with as a HoF’er Strahan; anyone else?
Well no,
Greatnesses should be defined by stuff a QB can control, their own performance. QBR is a great indicator for this
Idk what Rodgers QBR is in the post season or where it ranks, but its pretty silly to say winning and losing is soley a QB issue. Always has been always will be
Bengals losing 41-38 after McPherson missed a winning FG and defense gave up a 51 yard rush to henry setting up the game winning FG isnt Joe Burrows fault.
By your comparisons, should Jamal Lewis’ and Terrell Davis’ 2,000-yard efforts be taken more seriously than the other six players with that milestone because they were on better teams?
Everyone watching the games knew Dickerson, Sanders, C Johnson, OJ and the others were getting the ball and on non-disprscipt teams.
Terrell Davis shouldn’t be taken more seriously cause Shanahan proved his system worked for many backs. Great HOF career but Shanahan could and did put nobodies back there and got 1,000-1,500 yards.
The greats routinely put up great numbers. Olines didn’t stay the same their entire careers. Guys moved on. Guys retired. Greats still find ways to be productive.
Rodgers has been pretty productive in his career even with roster turn overs.
Lots of HCs made/make 1,000-yard backs annually. But yes, you’re right; players move on or retire every year. What does 1 RB have to do with the other 7 2,000+yard backs that Shanny never coached?
Parcells summed up my point the best: “You are what your record says you are.” Aaron is two games over .500 in the playoffs over 18(?) years? It’s simple as that.
Not really. Which is why we use QBR to discuss QB performance. Just cause you keep saying such doesn’t make it true.
Records are a team stat for the most part
Sometimes it’s the QBs fault they lost
Sometimes it’s the qb who won them the game
Sometimes it’s the defense fault they lost
Sometimes it’s the defense who won them the game
Sometimes it’s special teams punting and kicking that win games by pinning teams inside their own 20 the entire game or hitting long field goals
Sometimes it’s special teams fault such as punt returns kick returns for TDs or getting fgs or punts blocked as to why they lost
To say “well that .500 record is Rodgers fault” is asinine. Always has been always will be considering QBs don’t play defense or special teams. Blaming the dude standing on the side lines for defense giving up points, kickers missing fgs, and punters getting punts blocked is silly.
Aikman?!?! You’re not serious. He isn’t even a top 15 QB, so I’m not sure how he could be on anyone’s top 5 list. 165 TD:141 INT. He only started 3 years before Favre, too, so it’s not like we can use the excuse that defense was allowed to play tighter and more physical then. He’s certainly worse than Favre, who was a turnover machine but at least scored TDs.
Brady, Montana, Mahomes certainly ahead of Rodgers. Peyton got his second ring by doing what Rodgers is doing now so it’s not like he’s much further ahead by your own metric. If you’re leaving Marino out and putting Aikman in, rings is literally the only rationale. Not because he’s actually more talented or performed better statistically, just one arbitrary team achievement because he was blessed with a better situation and supporting cast.
I’m
Not a Rodgers fan but also not a fan of SB wins making a QB great. If that were the scenario Trent Dilfer is better than Rivers and Joe Flacco is better than Marino. To me, Marino is a top 3 QB all time. Montana rates Marino the best all time. I think rings get so overhyped and valuesd on a way that people forget it’s a team sport. I know my raider brothers love Jim Plunkett. Yes he’s Raider royalty but he wasn’t some great all time QB because of his SB wins. He was the right QB for some great Raider teams. Those teams were great. He wouldn’t even make my top 25 of QBs I’d want starting for my team.
He thinks Aikman is better than Marino completely ignoring the teams around them. It’s what dumb sports fans do. He just said the Jets are selling and then they traded for DA. Idkkkk.
Guess you forget Dan had a HoF C, 2 constant all pro WR’s, and the Killer Bee’s on D for plenty of seasons.
Every team has talent. Its being able to lead them to wins is the goal of the QB. Aikman dealt with a bunch of strung up egotistical coke heads and lead them 3 times.
Mark Clayton was Marinos best WR. He made a handful of pro bowls and that’s it. He’s a FAR cry from Jerry Rice or Michael Irvin. I’d say Marinos best RB was terry Kirby. That’s a FAR cry from Emmitt Smith or even Roger Craig. Marino was a FAR better QB than Aikman. FAR better. Not even close. Even Aikman would probably tell you that. Marino is a top 3 QB all time. He just had Mark Clayton to throw to. All the other guys you mentioned had greats. Clayton is no great WR.
I guess you forgot Dan also had the best head coach of all time. Bill still hasn’t topped Don and has had plenty more games per season.
You really think those Dolphins teams were better than the Cowboys teams? Gimme a break. You have Eli over Rodgers and Aikman over Marino? That’s inept. But do you.
Forgot about that. Aikman had arguably one of the leagues best OCs ever. I said OCs because he was not a good Hc but the guy could run an offense. Norv Turner.
Aikman had one of, if not the best, offensive lines in the history of football.
If you took Aikman and put him on those Dolphins teams, what happens?
If you took Marino and put him on those Cowboys teams, what happens?
Exactly.
I never said that! Troy was much better at handling huge personalities than Dan ever was.
Dan himself said on a 30-for-30 that he would never know what it means to walk off as a SB winner. Troy can stake that claim.
This guy will do mental gymnastics forever until we get tired just to maintain some form of being right. Acts like QB is the only position on the field and responsible for getting SB wins when it suits him, or Dan Marinos team carried him when it suits him.
He’ll create logical inconsistencies such as Eli being better than Rodgers because of rings but then try to pretend Rodgers’ ring doesnt matter. Its amazing
Is Brett better than Aaron? 3 MVP’s and 2 SB’s vs 1 SB and 4 MVP’s? How about Elway taking the Broncos to 5 SB’s? Aaron’s that much better, please.
Where did Brett and Elway come into this convo? Move the goalposts to make yourself feel better why dont you
Winning is where Brett and Elway entered the conversation. Brett at least made it to 2 SB’s. 5 for Elway. Do I need to list every QB that went to multiple conversations to make you happy?
Maybe not there but Rodgers is way better than Aikman. How many seasons did Aikman throw for over 20TDs ? One. That’s it.
Different era of football. It is not hard to understand; maybe it is for you. But I’ll take Troy’s 11-5 playoff record with 3 rings over Aaron’s records and one ring, wouldn’t you?
Aaron IS better than Brett. Brett was prolific in touchdowns AND interceptions (and at the worst possible times).
Not according to google: According to available data, Brett Favre has more playoff wins than Aaron Rodgers as a Green Bay Packers quarterback; Favre has 12 playoff wins while Rodgers has 11.
…and Brett has more losses, as well.
Coach Gibbs and GM Beathard brought the Washington fanbase 3 SB victories with three different QBs. To me, more impressive than a franchise that made a run relying on the skills of one QB.
Agreed. Joe is by far the best HC I’ve ever seen. Took nomads to the postseason constantly.
@ arty / If you have to win more than one ring to be considered a top five QB then doesn’t that standard have to be applied to every position? Butkus never even played in a post season game but if you’re trying to tell me he doesn’t rank as one of the NFLs top five linebackers, then I couldn’t disagree with you more.
Isn’t Arty the one who is always whining that Belichick isn’t that great, despite the Super Bowl wins? Mr. Inconsistent strikes again.
Rodgers is great but probably falls behind Montana, Brady and Mahomes as all of those gentlemen were also immensely productive both regular-season and playoffs, and have rings to go with their regular season play. Rodgers did not elevate team play high enough, as instead of inspiring people, his presence sometimes made his teammates lazy and complacent. “We’ve got Rodgers, Aaron will win the game for us.”
Tomlin gave that win to green Bay.. Rodgers is all about Rodgers…same as Pittsburgh diva Ben Baconburgher
Rex Grossman has as many NFC Championship wins as Aaron Rodgers.
All those #1 draft picks WR the Packers wasted on Aaron during his time with Green Bay. Hmmm gets what he wants. Is Cobb coming back too?
Whatever people think Rodgers is like with the Jets, he wasn’t that guy as a Packer. Not sure why he would be that person now.
This is win-win. The Raiders are spinning their wheels and need to plan for next season. The Jets are in win-now mode with no second chances. Rodgers costs a lot of money and this is really his last season.
It’s more likely that Rodgers and Adams both get hurt and go on injured reserve. There’s a chance though that they could make magic one last time and take the Jets to a conference championship.
Anyone against this trade should be firmly against lottery tickets, because that’s what the trade is. It’s a chance to win big, but at long odds. NFL is entertainment and this trade is entertaining.
I wish that were true for this Aaron as well… Anyway, if the Jets don’t manage to trade Williams right away, will he be a healthy scratch on the inactive list? He’s not a special teamer and the Jets already have two WRs on special teams in addition to the top 3.
Desperation. At this point, whatever. Season is going to be lost if we don’t.
Clearly desperation. But the season is probably already lost at this point
The only reason I disagree is because the Jets schedule is incredibly winnable and Buffalo’s is pretty tough.
Jets get the Patriots, Dolphins 2x, Jaguars, Colts, Cardinals, Seahawks, Steelers still. All winnable games if they put a complete game together in all 3 phases.
Ha! Incredibly winnable!? It’s the Jets. Nothing is incredibly winnable. The Jets are not a playoff team. They are a 8-9 team.
Bills have the Chiefs at home and the 49ers, but Jets have Texans and Pittsburgh ahead (a team that has a much better record than the Jets)
The Seahawks are going to house the Jets, and the “if” in that sentences is true of every team every Sunday. A complete game in all three phases is the way to win an NFL game. It’s easier said than done because the other team is also trying to win!
The season was lost before it started. The season was lost two years ago when they thought Rodgers would help the team. It’s the Jets. They have given zero reason to hope in a good season for a long, long time. As long as Johnson is owner, you can look forward to the same ineptness.
I know it’s fun to crap on the Jets and normally I would agree with your takes about them, but it’s not like this is an untalented roster. Getting to play all those teams I mentioned give the Jets a chance with the group they have. They’ve blown three exceptionally close games and would have beaten Denver and Buffalo with good kicking. So, say whatever you want, but I disagree this time around.
Probably made the trade the moment Williams slipped on that route.
Williams will likely never see the field again for this team after that slip.
Yeah, the WR room is the weak point of this team. hahaha
Well to be fair, it’s A weak point. Certainly not the only one.
The entire organization is the weak point.
i like this trade so much. wanted big mike to work out but having davante is going to open up so many opportunities for the rest of the offense as well as having a reliable endzone pass catcher. i like it for the raiders as well but i see little reason to not grab a guy like Adams for a 3rd (or 2nd) in win now mode
Jets have a really good defense, one of the better young WR’s in the league on his rookie deal and a talented 1-2 combo at RB. They should invest all their resources to upgrade that horrendous offensive line and try to win 21-14 type games. Instead they’re loading up on WR’s and expect a 40 year old who missed all of last season with an Achilles injury to drop back 40+ times a game to win 42-35 shootouts.
Jets defense has not been great this year. Run stop is non existent. Also, they DID invest all their resources to upgrade the line. They signed Smith, Moses, drafted a tackle round 1, have a round 1 G in AVT and a R2 C in Tippman. Them grabbing a top WR for a conditional 3rd which opens up opportunities for GW and Lazard as well as the 2 solid RBs is not a bad move no matter how much you try to frame it as such. Especially when the game was lost after a WR ran the wrong route and then slipped on the same play…
Smith, like Rodgers, is older and has dealt with significant injuries, Moses is a depth/swing tackle, I do think Fashanu has a bright future but is going to go through typical growing pains as a rookie, Vera Tucker is a stud no argument there, and Tippmann’s skillset is best utilized in a zone run offense which I think the Jets should utilize so he can operate in space and get to the second level of defenders instead of asking him to hold the point of attack against dudes that outweigh him by 30+ pounds all the time.
In a vacuum adding Davante Adams to any roster is a good move and he will certainly improve this team. I just don’t believe this is a good move for this team as currently constructed. Also if the last play is the determining factor of the outcome then there’s at least a dozen other plays in the game that both teams can point to as a turning point and say “what if” but you can/ change the outcome just the same as you can’t change your record.
You make good points, but I will say that the primary advantage of adding Adams is personal: the connection with Rodgers is something Williams and Wilson don’t have. We’ve seen what a difference it makes with Lazard.
Now, to be fair, some of that is Rodgers’ fault for neglecting some of his off-season work. But I actually think that this is by far New York’s best chance to add a huge boost. The Bills countered nicely with the Cooper trade. This will be an important rematch if it all works out-hopefully without the worst officiating in an era there to sink both teams.
There are multiple plays that turned the tide last night. B. Allen TD called back, two missed kicks, but my point was to show that Mike Williams is/was a weakpoint in this offense and that weakpoint can cost the team points/wins. Getting rid of that liability with a top tier WR will help this team win more games in the short and long run (if they manage to work into a WC spot)
That’s a reasonable assessment. I suppose my main concern about the trade from the Jets perspective is that Davante doesn’t make the team better than the Chiefs or Ravens on paper to even get to the Super Bowl. The cap space to pay him and the pick to acquire him are more valuable to the franchise in my opinion than winning a couple extra games this season just to hopefully sneak into the playoffs considering they’ve dug a significant hole for themselves already. Especially considering next season there’s a very real possibility that neither Rodgers or Adams are on the team anyway.
Typical crybaby Sharon pouts until he gets his way. Now you have too any mouths to feed. The Jets….are the Jets.
Too many mouths to feed? That’s laughable.
lmao right like oh nooo Mike Will and Gipson are gonna lose snaps nooooo theres too many good options for Aaron to throw to
Exactly. Mike Williams is washed up and might be phased out or flipped for something like a 6th and Gipson is on this team to be a return man, not a WR.
Wilson, Hall, Adams, Lazard?
4 is too many?
Jets are going to do Jets things.
Are Jets on the hook for remainder of contract after 2024? Salary goes sky high after this season.
If I’m not mistaken there is no more guaranteed money after this season
Yes, if I understood correctly when I read the article. While the Raiders are also on the hook for some dead money (which, kinda who cares..).
Also, as captain said (and was stated in the story..), there is no more guaranteed money after this year.
Additionally, as mentioned in the story, talk of ‘working out a new deal..’ will be key for the Jets.
That said, with his rumored concern (again..) of Rodgers’ future beyond this season, I’m wondering if we may see him on the move again (via trade or release) in the off-season.
Screw it, why not for a third. Jets still won’t go all that far, but they might as well commit when the price of commitment isn’t that big a deal.
One thing I’ll say is we probably win last night and the Denver game with Adams getting targets over Williams. Schedule is still winnable going forward.
Heck, even just with better kicking.
we’d be 4-2 if Greg just made the kicks hes been making his whole career. bad time to get the yips
I think Greg is getting crapped on too much for what happened in the swirling wind. Bass, who is no slouch, also missed two kicks.
A third and full 2024 salary, along with two years of massive cap hits (if they don’t cut him or renegotiate). He might prefer to be released based on his history of dissatisfaction.
No guarantees after this year. You can basically ignore the rest of his contract.
YESSSS
– Raiders
It’s all in on a 40 yr old QB and a 2-4 record.
I have always given the Jets compliments when appropriate – they are always a tough out.
And Rodgers looked ok last night.
But is that sustainable? Im very doubtful.
Does Adams help? Sure.
Cant fault them for trying – but its gonna be a long tough rebuild with a new regime when they miss the playoffs.
They are trying to save their jobs. They don’t have time to worry about the future.
I agree that it’s probably too little, too late; however, with Adams receiving targets over Williams, we are very possibly 4-2 instead of 2-4 right now. Almost assuredly win in the storm vs. Denver and likely win one of the last two in which Williams had costly mistakes (especially last night, getting hit in the junk with the ball on a would-be 1st down and slipping on that easy long completion).
Schedule is very winnable going forward.
Devils advocate:
Who are they competing against for wild cards?
I don’t think Cincy is out – but 0-3 conference doesn’t hurt.
Do you believe in the Chargers?
Pittsburgh isn’t good – but they keep winning.
I don’t think Rodgers is good despite looking okay last night. He has been pretty bad for most of this year….
…but its not crazy to see the Jets with 9 wins sneaking in either.
I wouldn’t bet it though.
Bills1- I think that’s a very fair, unbiased take. My money would be on Buffalo to win the division for sure. Given the relatively weak second tier of AFC teams, 9-8 may be enough to get the 7 seed and I think the Jets could snag that.
Pittsburgh and the Chargers have a better chance at the wildcards, but it’s still so early in the season that no one knows what might derail any of the contenders.
Jets are 3 missed easy FGs away from being 4-2. Rodgers has been more than solid with exception of the game against MIN, hes far away from being the problem. Jets not being able to tackle or stop the run is a lot more of a problem
Sure.
The best part is, they’re still going to lose and not make the playoffs. Rodgers brought in his guys and they will still lose.
Exactly.lol
Trade condition update: The conditional third-round pick the Jets are trading to the Raiders for Davante Adams becomes a second if any of the following happen, per source:
Adams must be 1st- or 2nd-team AP all pro
On the active roster for AFC championship game or Super Bowl.
Soooo its a 3rd ha
AA Ron probably thinks Mike Williams stinks
Will the Raiders get Williams too
He was pretty good at one time
Mike Williams is oft hurt and hasnt looked good since coming back. I was pretty high on the signing but running the wrong route and slipping on the same route isnt very good.
So ho goes from 1 crap nonplayoff team to a different one and pays more taxes there? Great trade!!!
He’s reunited with a QB he had a ton of individual success with, while leaving a situation with..Aiden O’Connell (?) as QB.
And possibly only for the rest of this season as there is no guaranteed money beyond ’24, Rodgers may not return AND the Jets seemingly need to adjust the numbers owed to him IF both sides wish to continue the relationship going forward.
And I’d guess best case for the Raiders they get a mid 3rd rounder out if it. Not exactly a springboard to a quick rebuild, or a comparable return to what they gave up to acquire him in the first place.
These idiots need a better OL.They’ve given Aaron everything he has wanted and it’s still not working.lol
It was the Holding Calls that killed them in the 4th quarter
Different guy each time, take a look at the O Line coach.
Jets should have won last night, but didn’t
I don’t think my guys played well either…
The second Epensesa sack was not a penalty.
Lucky hail mary play.
Also Rodgers clearly fumbled with that tuck – bad call.
Still plenty of those penalties were earned.
I don’t think I should say confidently the Jets should have won.
But the Bills are the better team and it should not have been that close.
That is most NYJ vs Bills games I guess.
I wouldnt call the hail mary “lucky” it was maybe the cleanest hail mary catch ive seen. Poor defense on the play is more apt
Rodgers is really good at throwing hail mary’s. Most people assume that it’s just a chuck it and pray it works type of play and often that is the case but Rodgers knows the key is to get to ball as high as you can to give receivers time to track they ball and get in position to go get it. Generally speaking receivers are often taller than DB’s so giving them a better chance to be in position to catch the ball at it’s highest point gives the play a much better chance of being successful.
Agreed, its not a fluke Rodgers’ keeps hitting hail mary’s. This one was exceptionally clean tho, the only contesting from the defense was after Lazard came down with it, calling it lucky is silly
The production discussed Rodgers’ four successful ones, but those were only for TDs. I remember that one in the Cardinals game to Janis-he actually hit TWO in a ROW to him, who was a fourth string receiver, back to back. It was pretty crazy.
And then the Cards win the toss and Larry Fitzgerald catches a slant and runs through the entire Packer defense in one play to end the game in overtime without Green Bay’s offense even touching the ball. It’s the story of Rodgers’ career.
Somewhere there is a division III QB shocked that the NFL didn’t call his name in the draft. He’s telling his parents and friends “The scouting reports all stated I threw a beautiful Hail Mary so I just assumed I would get drafted”.
It’s not a skill you need to use often but it pays off big time when you need it
There were definitely calls that went against the Bills, but there were also some that went against the Jets. That PI call on an uncatchable pass about 5 yards out of bounds, lack of PI on the sure first down to Wilson, I believe it was, etc.
The game was a flagfest, which was annoying, but both teams were wildly undisciplined. The refs could have called more than they did.
Too little too late
This ain’t gonna do s^!t to help the Jets! Is Adam’s gonna block DL on offense or get after the QB on defense? This is just another prime example of Jets doing Jets s@#t!
Smart move by the Jets brass, go offense & deal Reddick quickly to change the teams’ downward momentum after that brutal loss. At this moment, it had to be done!
How does someone actually come to this conclusion. Jets pass rush has been great this year, Jets run stop and tackling has not. And if you cant see how adding a top WR will help this offense idk what to tell you
Ridiculous all the way around.
Nothing can save the jets…nothing but divine subtraction…..subtract diva Rodgers and forget Adams and you might have something
Hey Rodgers can always be a gopher for RFK jr the goof
The gopher and the goof…sounds like a Hallmark movie
ehh u tried
Not a lot going back Vegas’ way, but I guess it’s better than nothing. Time for a mini-rebuild.
PUBLIC HEALTH NOTICE!
Copium overdose is REAL. Jets fans, we love you, we care about you, please stay grounded ❤️
Hahahahahhahaha. This is crazy, I’d be so possed if I were a Jets fan. This washed up clown is building a mediocre team, and then he’s just gonna bounce.
Let me start by making 2 things clear. I am by no means a Jets fan. Also, since the day Rodgers was actually traded I have no real feelings one way or the other about him (I don’t get why his personal life matters at all, but people need so badly to bring it up for some reason..).
So, trying to look at this from a Jets fan point of view here..what were/are the right moves to make..dating back specifically to the Rodgers trade until now?
Draft more Zach Wilson’s, Sam Darnold’s? Bring in more HC’s with either zero previous experience, or a mediocre track record? Beg Bellychick to come in as HC/GM and expect a miracle?
Lobby the NFL to do a draft lottery like the NBA, rig it so they get the 1st pick (also, like the NBA..), and then make the picks for them as well so they don’t screw it up?
Seems like I just read it’s been 13 years since the Jets made the playoffs. They’ve been a mediocre team. It’s not like they were a team on the verge of a dynasty and now they’re suddenly a major disappointment.
Jets still doing Jets things. Believing an aging WR is the answer….they’ll never learn.
With how many great WR’s there are and how bad the Jets are the pick will be a third rounder. Even that is too high a price considering Vegas isn’t eating any salary. The Jets are in desperation mode trying to make Rodgers happy.
a 3rd is too high for D Adams? trippin
They don’t have to eat any salary. The Jets had plenty of room to add him for this year.
Besides, the Raiders are stuck with plenty of dead money this year and next. Even if the Jets asked them to eat money, all LV had to do was remind them of that, and the discussion was over.
Love to see the Jets eating more cap space only to miss the playoffs yet again. What receiver prefers to go to a team that just fired its head coach and promises to run the ball more?
One that doesn’t get along with his now previous head coach, from an organization that traded the QB he in part wanted to go to because of, which now has Aidan (I think I spelled that correctly this time..) O’Connell as it’s starter and doesn’t appear to have any hope of being relevant for the foreseeable future.
Oh, and the team he’s going to has a QB with a history of calling his own plays from time to time. And he’s going to be at option 1 like he was during his time in GB.
how many of the top twenty five paid receivers have rings ? oh that’s right .. two ! keep paying and trading ‘em
the took twenty five have four rings between them
So what you’re saying is if you can’t win it all, at least get paid well.
Which is kinda not just WR’s or NFL players, but most pro athletes in general.
There’s no way this upgrades to a 2nd rounder.
Yeah, if it does, you figure that it would have been worth it. If Adams produces enough in eleven games to be considered the best or second best receiver of 2024, the Jets would have gotten their money’s worth.
Add an ol buddy wide-out to satisfy there diva QB. They still run that stale sputtering offense. Guess they better turn it around now or who’s to blame ? Salah’s gone.
Dude imagine how good he gone be now dat he gots Aron Rogers throwing to him!!!!! Go Jes!
