In the wake of the Davante Adams trade, questions have understandably been raised about the future of Maxx Crosby. The Raiders’ best player is not on the market, but his latest remarks on the possibility of a swap are far less conclusive than those of owner Mark Davis.
“I’m not here to rebuild, I’m here to win,” the three-time Pro Bowler said when speaking about his future (via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk). “So, you know, I don’t know. Whatever that means, but yeah I’m here to win now. And wherever I’m gonna be, I’m gonna be here to win. So that’s all that matters to me.”
The decision to move on from Adams is a rather clear indication of Vegas’ intent regarding a run to the playoffs or beyond in 2024. With Gardner Minshew being replaced atop the quarterback depth chart by Aidan O’Connell, uncertainty looms over that position for the balance of the season as well as 2025. The Raiders represent a logical suitor for an aggressive quarterback pursuit this offseason, but even with an upgrade under center the team would have other hurdles to clear to attain contender status.
Crosby and the Raiders agreed to a restructure this offseason which upped his earnings for this season and next. His contract – which ranks ninth amongst edge rushers in terms of average annual value – runs through 2026. As a result, the matter of “wherever” he plays in the future will not be in doubt provided the Raiders turn aside the inevitable trade interest they will receive in the coming weeks. Of course, a number of teams would provide the 27-year-old with a better chance at contending than the 2-4 Raiders this season.
Crosby said in June he intends to remain in Vegas for the entirety of his career. His monster extension certainly sets up that possibility, and remaining healthy should allow him to continue proving high-end production. The Eastern Michigan product is on track for a fourth double-digit sack campaign in his six-year career. That will in all likelihood make him a centerpiece of the Raiders for years to come, but his comments note the potential for a change of scenery being possible.
Well, Raiders now have a part ownership (aka Tom Brady) so changes will be a consideration…
Wasn’t Maxx the same guy who said he’d demand a trade if Antonio Pierce wasn’t retained as head coach? 6 games in and it sounds like he’s open to trade now which i don’t blame him…just a good reminder you don’t let employees run the business at that level
Also a reminder that interim coach is a different job than coach. You’re not installing whole new schemes or hiring people. Of course the vibes are good when you’re replacing a coach that players despise. But good vibes don’t last when the team is mediocre with no clear path forward the next year.
Exactly, sounds like Kamala Harris’s situation!…hahaha sorry had too, but that was too easy of a comparison lol
I mean, if you insist on going in that direction, Trump is the one whose former employees can’t stand him.
Trying to win people over on “Vibes” is what I’m referring too lol….doesn’t work does too well realistically does it?
Harris has had over 90% of her staff quit. That’s a really bad human being.
Trump had a mob out to kill his VP. A huge number of his key former staffers have spoken out against him.
Typically, I save political talk for family and friends, but come on…
Kamala was handpicked, and has been campaigning on money primarily raised in someone’s else’s name.
She also just had one of the worst candidate interviews ever the first time she was allowed to actually be asked any pressing questions…
He might be a rich, orange, egotistical loud mouth who can’t keep his mouth shut for his own good, but she’s a joke of a puppet who doesn’t have a single policy, doesn’t know politics whatsoever, and flip-flops on everything..
Wait, I forgot her political knowledge starts and ends with her being from a middle class family, Trump is evil, and wanting to pretend some lousy bill, which Democrats even shot down, was ever going to help solve the border issues…
Anyone who takes her seriously or votes for her just either just hates Trump, doesn’t like his stance on abortion, wants a woman president, or is completely gullible and lacks any common sense whatsoever….
He’s the puppet. The guy doesn’t even understand his own “policies.” He has the whole concept of tariffs backwards. If the media weren’t sane washing him, people might acknowledge how totally incoherent he is. He spent a half hour swaying to music the other night at a town hall. And Vance is completely unqualified for the job too.
“Anyone who takes her seriously or votes for her just either just hates Trump…”
And in your first reason you nailed how the vast majority of people come to a voting conclusion. Choosing a candidate is almost always picking between the lesser of two evils. Look at approval ratings. Neither has half of America on their side. No candidate cares about the every day citizen, whether that’s Trump or Harris or RFK or Stein or Kanye. It’s why I’ll never understand fanatical politician worshippers who fly flags and have bumper stickers and tie their happiness to a candidate. They don’t care about us.
Choosing a candidate is almost always picking between the lesser of two evils.
=======================
I kind of wish both sides would acknowledge that both candidates are clowns. The SNL skit of Harris of saying what a wonderful middle class childhood she had, when asked a question on Family Feud, was spot on. And Trump is no better.
I don’t know who is advisors are, but he should’ve bludgeoned Harris in the debate. Instead, he was talking about Haitians immigrants eating pets. He missed asking about the border, inflation $35T in debt, CC debt, housing affordability, $1T in federal interest payments, etc.
I’m going to vote for Trump, because I think he will do marginally less damage, but neither of these candidates have a clue.
There would’ve been 3 million that showed up had there been a real insurrection. Maybe one day we’ll have a beer together Ooof.
I don’t think that any of you has said anything untrue or disrespected each other, but we’re also getting off track, here.
Ah yes, the illusion of choice.
“I’m here to win now. And wherever I’m gonna be, I’m gonna be here to win. So that’s all that matters to me.” Well, that sounds less like a guy who definitely wants to stay on the Raiders.
Does anyone “want” to be a Raider
Willing to bet there are 2-3 players on every team that “want” to play in Las Vegas.
How many backup QB believe they could be the answer for the Raiders, WR looking for a chance, or just name a bubble player.
I’ll amend my statement does any good player “want” to be a raider. These guys are off for half the year they can spend weeks at a time in Vegas during the off season if they choose. Not sure why anyone would want to live in Vegas anyway in my experience 72 hours is the timeframe on Vegas being fun.
I love LV, but the team always looks like it is two years away.
*raises hook* yarr
Body language & “wherever I end up” comment from Maxx pretty clearly show he isn’t happy, either with losing or getting traded. Raiders FO would have to entertain a trade if offered two firsts and two seconds, a ridiculous haul, bettering the Mack trade (which they squandered on bad draft choices).
Is there a team one Maxx Crosby away? Baltimore or maybe Houston?
One way to look at it like the Mack trade is what team feels confident they have their franchise quarterback on a rookie contract and needs an edge rusher? Washington definitely fits both criteria. The Falcons are also an aspiring contender that could still very much use a high end pass rusher. Carolina is far from contending, but they currently have one of the worst pass rushes I’ve ever seen, and Vegas is a team that could take a look at Bryce Young (not as the main part of a trade, obviously, and this one is far fetched).
I’d even throw in Minnesota for Crosby.
I’d even throw in Minnesota for Crosby.
===================
I wonder what would happen if Minny’s opening bid included McCarthy? Ignoring the injury and the lost year of development, it’s the equivalent of adding the overall #1/10. They’ll need to add more, but it’s not like you’re destroying your future draft boards.
If I’m LV, I’d rather have McCarthy today than Crosby.
You are right, I didn’t even think of Washington. That would be the kind of team that could gamble, especially after losing Jonathan Allen, despite giving up a haul. Some team is going to offer a boatload bc talent like Crosby is rarely if ever available. Minny would be downright scary with Crosby.
Unless he demands a trade, I don’t think you even entertain it for what you’re suggesting. If you trade him to Houston or Baltimore, those are very late round selections. Late seconds aren’t sure things. They also don’t sell tickets. You have to put something on the field worth watching.
Crosby is also more dominant than Mack was, at least in my estimation.
I doubt they trade him too, and your logic on picks is one reason I’ve seen it as unlikely they’d trade him to Detroit. But let’s not forget how phenomenal Mack was.
Oh yeah, that was no slight on Mack, who was more than dominant when he was traded. It was meant more as a compliment of Crosby’s abilities.
Understood. For it to not even be ridiculous is a huge compliment to Crosby. Also speaks to what an incredible fourth round pick that is. That’s not a position where you find a lot of superstars after the early rounds.
Yeah, they absolutely struck gold with that selection. Fourth round, sometimes you can find a solid WR or RB… but it’s almost unheard of to find a defensive player as dominant as Crosby has been. You’re almost lucky just to find a rotational player that late.
It’s hard to find that in the first. Crosby’s dedication alone is worth whatever price you pay. He’s also not money motivated, which is a major boon for a team as a bonus to all of the other traits that you’ve mentioned which make him a top tier player. Vegas could easily get a first from a contender, but I agree with y’all-they’d be silly to trade Crosby unless he demands it. Even then, it’s be more out of respect for him and the impression that it would give other players that they’ll do right by their leaders and best contributors, especially a franchise icon like Crosby.
I’ll yield to markdavisbarber or Damage_Inc or JoeBrady or Appalachian_Outlaw for more in tune knowledge about the team here, but I don’t see Vegas trading Crosby. It’s unfortunate to see the players souring on the Pierce regime so soon, but that could be more of a result of their current standings than the actual day to day of the team. I’m sure our resident Raider fans could know more. In any case, Vegas appears to be headed for a first round quarterback next year anyway. As for the Mack comparisons, it’s interesting to note who the current GM is in Vegas. Granted, Telesco acquired Mack from Chicago, but he does have experience with that particular player.
I don’t foresee them trading Crosby either, unless he forces the issue. Even then, as you said, it’d probably be more out of respect for him. That’s the only way a trade goes down, in my opinion. There is just no way you get equal value back for a player of that caliber.
I’m not sure if the players have soured on the Pierce regime yet so much as it may just be frustration. But I think he needs to be careful. A lot of players went to bat for him to get the job, and he called some guys out (albeit not by name) with his comments about players making business decisions. Speculating here, but given timing and circumstances, Adams may have been one he was referring to. As a coach, can’t do that. Even when it’s not your fault, you have to own it in the media because when you lose the locker room, you’re toast. Not sure it’s anywhere near that bad yet, but they could probably use a win to lift the mood.
Could be he was making a remark about his personal perspective to his efforts, “I’m giving 100% every practice and every game regardless as my mindset is to be a winner”.
In that regard there’s no ‘want’ to be traded. Comments by people we don’t know can be misconstrued toward a variety of connotations.
He wants out too
That doesn’t sound like a guy who wants to stick around too much longer. If they don’t land a qb this offseason, he’s out.
Of course he’s pissed, they just gave away their only offensive player worth a damn. He’s their only good player on the entire team, how much can he do by himself. Telesco needs to start working some magic to build an actual team or face an entire rebuild
Minus Crosby.
I wish the 49ers could work out a 3-team trade
49ers get: Crosby and 2025 Steelers 5th round pick
Steelers get: Aiyuk
Raiders get: Steelers 2025 2nd Round pick, Steelers 2026 3rd Round pick, 49ers 6th Round pick
Pearsall is coming back, and 49ers have enough offensive weapons. They need help along the d-line, and don’t have any depth besides Sam O, who has shown promise, but is incredibly undersized and inexperienced.
Floyd is best as a situational pass rusher, and he can help spell Crosby and Bosa. At this rate, Bosa is going to wear down by the end of the season. He’s playing entirely too much, but the 49ers can’t afford to take him off the field.
What do you guys think?? You could easily swap in the Commanders instead of the Steelers.
I doubt it happens, but it fills on field needs as the teams are currently constructed. Aiyuk’s post contract start has been slow, and he’s tethered to that figure for a while now, but I don’t know if the teams are willing enough at this point to execute that.
I really don’t think that Raiders trade Crosby unless he demands it. I also think that Vegas wouldn’t take less than a first for Crosby. He’s still young, tied to a bargain contract, and is by far the team’s most prominent leader. Even if he wants to move, Vegas probably wants to give him another year to see how their off-season plays out. If they do decide to move him, it seems like it would be best to do so in an effort to acquire a starting quarterback. That’s the only other position that could give them appropriate value, right?
I don’t think that your proposal is a bad thing to wish for, and it’s definitely not the worst I’ve seen. It may even be possible. I don’t think that’s likely, though.
nobody wants aiyuk.
Crosby for a #2, 3 & 6 is never happening. It will be no less than two #1s, or the Raiders don’t pick up the phone.
I think my Bengals ought to go after him. Our offense looks great. Our biggest need is a better pass rush. Hendrickson is all we got. He’s a beast, but imagine what our pass rush could be like if we had Crosby opposite of Hendrickson. It would make the whole defense better. It would tell the fans that they’re all in it to win it. I’d give a 1st round pick
under contract for 2 years, he’s going to cost either 2 1st’s from a good team, or 1 first 2 seconds.
You sell on Maxx and like stated above a couple times you stockpile 1st and 2nd round picks. Find your QB in the next 2 drafts and plug in Darnold, Fileds or Wilson in 2025.
In another year I’d trade him for a big prospect haul to get a top QB prospect but this year there’s not any clear cut QBs worth the usual package needed. They’ll be better off staying put and picking a QB hoping he develops. The difference in the top 5 QBs isn’t as clear cut as in most drafts.
I think Carson Beck and Jaxson Dart are the two best QB prospects that will be available in the 15-25 range in 2025. It looks like the only team that has the potential draft capital would be the Bears and they have a need. The question would be would a 1st and 2nd round in 2025 be enough.
