In the wake of the Davante Adams trade, questions have understandably been raised about the future of Maxx Crosby. The Raiders’ best player is not on the market, but his latest remarks on the possibility of a swap are far less conclusive than those of owner Mark Davis.
“I’m not here to rebuild, I’m here to win,” the three-time Pro Bowler said when speaking about his future (via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk). “So, you know, I don’t know. Whatever that means, but yeah I’m here to win now. And wherever I’m gonna be, I’m gonna be here to win. So that’s all that matters to me.”
The decision to move on from Adams is a rather clear indication of Vegas’ intent regarding a run to the playoffs or beyond in 2024. With Gardner Minshew being replaced atop the quarterback depth chart by Aidan O’Connell, uncertainty looms over that position for the balance of the season as well as 2025. The Raiders represent a logical suitor for an aggressive quarterback pursuit this offseason, but even with an upgrade under center the team would have other hurdles to clear to attain contender status.
Crosby and the Raiders agreed to a restructure this offseason which upped his earnings for this season and next. His contract – which ranks ninth amongst edge rushers in terms of average annual value – runs through 2026. As a result, the matter of “wherever” he plays in the future will not be in doubt provided the Raiders turn aside the inevitable trade interest they will receive in the coming weeks. Of course, a number of teams would provide the 27-year-old with a better chance at contending than the 2-4 Raiders this season.
Crosby said in June he intends to remain in Vegas for the entirety of his career. His monster extension certainly sets up that possibility, and remaining healthy should allow him to continue proving high-end production. The Eastern Michigan product is on track for a fourth double-digit sack campaign in his six-year career. That will in all likelihood make him a centerpiece of the Raiders for years to come, but his comments note the potential for a change of scenery being possible.
Well, Raiders now have a part ownership (aka Tom Brady) so changes will be a consideration…
Wasn’t Maxx the same guy who said he’d demand a trade if Antonio Pierce wasn’t retained as head coach? 6 games in and it sounds like he’s open to trade now which i don’t blame him…just a good reminder you don’t let employees run the business at that level
Also a reminder that interim coach is a different job than coach. You’re not installing whole new schemes or hiring people. Of course the vibes are good when you’re replacing a coach that players despise. But good vibes don’t last when the team is mediocre with no clear path forward the next year.
Exactly, sounds like Kamala Harris’s situation!…hahaha sorry had too, but that was too easy of a comparison lol
I mean, if you insist on going in that direction, Trump is the one whose former employees can’t stand him.
Trying to win people over on “Vibes” is what I’m referring too lol….doesn’t work does too well realistically does it?
Harris has had over 90% of her staff quit. That’s a really bad human being.
“I’m here to win now. And wherever I’m gonna be, I’m gonna be here to win. So that’s all that matters to me.” Well, that sounds less like a guy who definitely wants to stay on the Raiders.
Does anyone “want” to be a Raider
Willing to bet there are 2-3 players on every team that “want” to play in Las Vegas.
How many backup QB believe they could be the answer for the Raiders, WR looking for a chance, or just name a bubble player.
Body language & “wherever I end up” comment from Maxx pretty clearly show he isn’t happy, either with losing or getting traded. Raiders FO would have to entertain a trade if offered two firsts and two seconds, a ridiculous haul, bettering the Mack trade (which they squandered on bad draft choices).
Is there a team one Maxx Crosby away? Baltimore or maybe Houston?
One way to look at it like the Mack trade is what team feels confident they have their franchise quarterback on a rookie contract and needs an edge rusher? Washington definitely fits both criteria. The Falcons are also an aspiring contender that could still very much use a high end pass rusher. Carolina is far from contending, but they currently have one of the worst pass rushes I’ve ever seen, and Vegas is a team that could take a look at Bryce Young (not as the main part of a trade, obviously, and this one is far fetched).
I’d even throw in Minnesota for Crosby.
Unless he demands a trade, I don’t think you even entertain it for what you’re suggesting. If you trade him to Houston or Baltimore, those are very late round selections. Late seconds aren’t sure things. They also don’t sell tickets. You have to put something on the field worth watching.
Crosby is also more dominant than Mack was, at least in my estimation.
I doubt they trade him too, and your logic on picks is one reason I’ve seen it as unlikely they’d trade him to Detroit. But let’s not forget how phenomenal Mack was.
Oh yeah, that was no slight on Mack, who was more than dominant when he was traded. It was meant more as a compliment of Crosby’s abilities.
Understood. For it to not even be ridiculous is a huge compliment to Crosby. Also speaks to what an incredible fourth round pick that is. That’s not a position where you find a lot of superstars after the early rounds.
He wants out too
That doesn’t sound like a guy who wants to stick around too much longer. If they don’t land a qb this offseason, he’s out.
