Nathan Peterman‘s NFL journey has landed him back with the Raiders. The organization announced today that they’ve signed the veteran quarterback. In a corresponding move, the team waived/injured wide receiver Keelan Doss.
Peterman is most known for tossing five interceptions during the first half of his NFL debut, but he’s since garnered a reputation as a steady backup QB. He had a nearly four-year stint with the Raiders, making only brief cameos in relief of Derek Carr. He also had a two-year stay with the Bears between 2022 and 2023. In total, Peterman has gone 1-4 in his five career starts.
The veteran signed with the Saints back in March but was cut loose earlier this month. The Raiders will now take a chance on a player who’s not only familiar with the organization, but also the playbook. As Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal observes, Peterson played the last two seasons in Chicago under new Raiders OC Luke Getsy, so it shouldn’t take the QB long to get his feet wet.
Bonsignore notes that Peterman might have simply been added to soak up preseason snaps. However, he could also provide an upgrade at QB3 over the likes of Anthony Brown Jr. and UDFA Carter Bradley (and behind Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell).
Doss has bounced around the NFL since going undrafted in 2019, including a handful of stints with the Raiders. He most recently spent two years with the Chargers, hauling in six catches for 33 yards.
This guy must have dirt on the NFL for how many chances he gets
Best agent in the business
Why????? The guys a bum….must be the qb talent in the nfl is declining
You must be young. The NFL has never had so many competent QBs.
Now if the Raiders could just bring back Aldon Smith the “Commitment To Excellence” would be complete…lol
From a bills fan… lol
this guy must have incredible dirt on the commish to get a job every year.
I have never met Nathan Peterman but I don’t believe he is a bum. I mean Antonio Brown farted in a guys face, I witnessed Warren Sapp laugh at a kid who wanted his autograph while wearing his jersey, every time Randy Moss opened his mouth the team traded him.
To mention “AllDone” Smith and Nathan Peterman in the same context is a bigger reach than Clelin Ferrell at #4 overall. To not properly give props to the Raider fans who provided him that nickname is sacrilegious.
There is something said for showing up, being prepared, knowing the staff, knowing the playbook, and a willingness to help others. No matter what your position is in life.
I like Nathan who unfairly got a bad rap because of 1 disastrous game where he had no time to prepare. He’s lasted in the league longer than many other QBs so that says something. Aldon was not a terrible player when he could maintain his focus on football but away from the field his hobby of choice was getting arrested as often as possible.
Luke and Nate together again. I can see them on Hard Knocks next year.
Damn boy, what’s wrong with you? You’re 100% correct and all, but spread out the hate a little. I can only take so much each day.
Seriously, it’ll take at least one SB win before the scars heal for Raider fans.
Fleecing NFL teams for eight straight years…
People don’t seem to understand the backup QB role. If he was that good, he would be starting. No good quarterbacks are backups. He is paid to not play. He’s an insurance option. You need someone who can work within the offense when the worst happens. Nobody should be expecting backup QBs to be world beaters. The fact he’s won a game gives him a leg up on lots of the other backup QB in the league. For decades the backup QB has been known as the best job in sports.
I have strived for 40 years to be the ‘clipboard holder’ to no avail. I would even volunteer to be on Special teams until I got ‘hit’ and injured.
Meh. If it comes down to QB3 for the Raiders, I’ll likely be setting up my 2025 draft board.
The Peter Man strikes again
What’s the point here? If Peterman is the backup, the team will be afraid to play him, as if they let him in the game, they know they will lose.
Surely there’s a backup QB candidate who is unlikely to win a bunch of games but just might…
I thought well of Pierce but bringing back deadbeat Peterman does not speak well for his coaching acumen.
Sometimes it’s about $, do you pay for competence or do you pay for ‘Lord don’t let it be him’?
Peterman has 4 career tds to 13 picks. It’s the attrition of QBs that keeps this guy in league. Gonna see more starts by QBs like Peterman as nfl continues to add more games to regular season. Your offense is only as strong as weakest link in QB room. Need depth. Guess @that point your playing for draft picks anyway. Carved out nice lil career holding clipboard.
