With none of Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb or Micah Parsons having been extended this offseason, questions remain regarding their respective Cowboys futures. Owner Jerry Jones addressed one of the team’s contract situations at practice on Thursday.
“I don’t expect not to have CeeDee Lamb,” Jones said when asked about the record-breaking wideout’s regular season availability (via ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry). “I don’t have a sense of urgency about getting [an extension] done,” he added.
Lamb himself is among those who offered a quick reaction to Jones’ comments on social media. The All-Pro continues to engage in a training camp holdout while negotiations on an extension continue. Team and player have been in contact recently, although nothing appears to be imminent with respect to an agreement being reached. While too much could be read into Jones’ remark, it at least ensures he is not concerned about Lamb’s absence continuing into the preseason.
The 25-year-old has been away from the team throughout the offseason. Lamb is attached to his rookie contract (by virtue of the fifth-year option), and as a result the mandatory daily fines he is accumulating can be waived by the Cowboys once a deal is in place. The Oklahoma product has been connected to an asking price which would make him the league’s highest-paid receiver (and non-quarterback), although it may take less than $35MM per season to get him back in the fold.
Dallas has made an offer as recently as late July, and Jones has made it clear in the past several months he is willing to remain patient on the Lamb front. That has remained the case for Prescott and Parsons, and the latter’s pending mega-deal is being taken into account even though he is still on the books for two more years. The Cowboys’ cap situation for years to come will depend on how things shake out with that trio, but it appears more time will elapse before any tangible movement is seen on the contract front with at least one of its members.
‘…“I don’t have a sense of urgency about getting [an extension] done,…”. I would agree with that statement!
It’s all part of Jerry’s master plan to spend the most amount of money he possibly can and get as much media attention as possible.
Everyone wants their piece of the pie but Dallas has nothing to show for it…..time for a reboot
Lamb’s response is reasonable. Hard to say what more he could have done since day one to earn a big ticket extension. Waddle and Smith got their contracts already and they were drafted a year later. Dallas could have saved money by getting this done months ago, let alone a year ago.
Jerrrah is a senile old fool. No big deal, why not wait till next offseason, when the salaries rise a little more? I mean he’s under contract this season right? You’ve handled Prescotts contracts so well I’m sure you got CD under control as well.
Jerah is about to bring out the broom for 2025. Why pay Prescott- Lamb and Parsons top dollar when they consistently disappear in the playoffs.
One thing you don’t want to do is p!ss off your star WR by making a comment like that. He’s going to reset the market weather that’s in Dallas or somewhere else. The longer Jerry Jones waits the higher the price tag will be for all 3 of Dak, Lamb and Parsons.
Get Lamb and Parsons signed and move on from Dak. Something needs to change in Dallas and it isn’t gonna be the ownership. And why do you have a top offensive line that has highly rated run blockers but have no one to run the football? Zeke, Rico, Deuce and whoever the hell else they plan on trotting out there have no upside at all. I love the pass game but without a decent running game this team is going nowhere. Trade Dak, take that money and spend it elsewhere and find a holdover QB for this season and get aggressive with bringing in a young QB and a couple of real ball carriers next year. Shoot, right now I’d be all for signing Tannehill off the scrap heap and seeing what Lance has and getting whatever picks I could for Dak while getting Lamb and Parsons signed long term and getting thos train moving for in 25 and beyond. Clearly, Jones doesn’t care about the upcoming season anyway because he either isn’t taking it seriously or has no plan on how to move forward.
I agree with this. Lamb and Parsons should be the focus for Dallas. $60m for Dak would be foolish. I also love how Dak says it’s not about the money but then wants $60m/year.
At this point, the economics look like Dallas will have to let these boys play out their options and hit the free market. Probably one year of franchise tag for Lamb before he leaves.
Parsons is the one a smart GM would keep out Prescott, Lamb and Parsons.
