JUNE 17: Rodgers and the Jets were in agreement with the decision to classify his minicamp absence as unexcused, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated notes. New York elected not to move the date of minicamp up one week, he adds, given the effects such a decision would have had on several other players. After a brief spell with Taylor guiding the first-team offense, Rodgers will be back in place for training camp.
JUNE 12: Haason Reddick‘s pursuit of a new contract qualifies as the top issue coming out of the Jets’ minicamp, but the team conspicuously does not have its future Hall of Fame quarterback on-hand for its mandatory June workouts.
Aaron Rodgers did not show for Tuesday’s minicamp opener, and The Athletic’s Dianna Russini notes the second-year Jets QB will not take part in any of the team’s workouts this week. While Tyrod Taylor seeing more reps with his new team stands to be important given how last season went for the Jets, Rodgers making a point to urge the Jets to avoid distractions and then ending his offseason this way has naturally generated questions.

It is not known where Rodgers is this week. The 20th-year passer reported for the Jets’ media day Monday and took a mandatory physical, per ESPN.com’s Rich Cimini, before leaving town. Rodgers had planned this trip during his rehab work, according to SNY’s Connor Hughes, who adds the Jets are not concerned about their QB’s absence.
Rodgers, 40, participated in the Jets’ voluntary workouts this offseason. He has also been in the team’s Nathaniel Hackett-guided offense for two years now. Rodgers also has a recent history of not showing for his team’s minicamp.
Most recently, he did so in 2021 during a months-long standoff with the Packers themed around a trade request. The parties agreed to a truce of sorts ahead of training camp. The 18-year Packer, however, did not show for his former team’s voluntary workouts in 2022. This became an issue for Green Bay, which was breaking in a few rookie wide receivers that offseason. Though, Rodgers reported for Green Bay’s mandatory minicamp that year. He was at Jets minicamp in 2023. It should be noted Rodgers won his fourth MVP award after the 2021 standoff, though his performance dipped — as the Packers moved on from Davante Adams — in 2022.
Coming off an Achilles tear sustained four plays into last season, Rodgers has acknowledged the pressure the Jets face this year. Ownership signed off on mulligans for Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas, but it is widely believed the HC-GM combo is on the hot seat. The QB’s whereabouts should become known at some point, and while the Jets are downplaying the matter, this certainly represents an unusual ending to an offseason program. Rodgers has been full-go during the team’s offseason program and will continue building toward a full-fledged comeback when training camp begins.
Not a real story here.
Personally, Id rather have my QB who hasn’t played in a meaningful game on a new team show up…but its not new for him either.
I agree, and it does clash with his “no distractions, commit to winning” public commentary. The media blows everything that Rodgers says or does to astronomical levels, especially since he tricked certain members during his vaccination controversy, but this behavior is opposite of the stance he’s publicly taken on turning the Jets around this year.
This was my personal biggest issue with Rodgers in his final year(s) with Green Bay. Sure, they drafted like idiots and didn’t commit to pushing for a ring, but you need to show up and help improve your receivers in the offseason. It’s more for them than it is for you, for the most part. If you want to be better, you meed to work to be better, even if you don’t agree with the circumstances. From that angle, I do think that Rodgers has dropped the ball.
Lets be real: Rodgers love’s distractions when they are about him. He LOVES being talked about.
Its part of the reason he kept teasing a comeback last year. Everyone with a brain knew it wasn’t happening. Yet, he still kept teasing it ling after the Jets were still alive.
Its why he says controversial things, and goes on Pat Mcafee and picks fights with guys like Kimmel.
But I agree – going to OTAs is about the team. He us the veteran superbowl winning QB. His presence could potentially alot to the offense.
I think you’re on the money, but to be fair, he DID go to OTAs.
Its mandatory OTA or minicamp.
His leg fell off
Probably on a “Time Square Retreat” nothing but massive noise, overwhelming public contact, and lack of privacy.
He’s stuck in traffic
Traded for a clown and got a circus. It’s a shame that this regime has done so much right and been such a mess with quarterbacks.
It’s not a shame at all. It’s hilariously pathetic and laughably great.
Buddy, I see enough garbage as a Jets fan. Don’t make me look at a six word sentence with two adjectives and two adverbs.
If they win this season, nobody will care how pointless minicamps went.
Pretty big “if”
Sure, the potential range of outcomes is pretty wide, but I think people are rooting with their hearts more than logic. They want to see Rodgers lose and I understand why. But a 7-10 team that will have an exponentially better QB, an improved WR corps, a better OL, and the best pass rush they’ve had in about 20 years should improve on their record. I think PFF is on to something by calling them the 4th best roster in the NFL.
What do you expect from the biggest jerk in professional sports and dumber than Kyrie Irving which is saying a lot. Hopefully he doesn’t make it past the first week of the season before showing again he is most overrated QB of last 15 years.
I dislike Rodgers as a person and am annoyed at how much my favorite team’s fate is tied to him, but his peak was top ten ever. He was an incredible quarterback at his best.
Dude’s a complete nut job, but he’s one of the best to ever play the position.
No doubt there, but his track record in the playoffs leaves a lot to be desired. I know he has a ring , but what alot of people forget is that Nick Collins had a pick 6 in that game. It was the difference in a 31-25 win over the Steelers.
I agree with you. He’s nothing but a distraction and a clown. Hasn’t done anything in the playoffs since beating the steelers in 2010. And he beat another clown, Ben Crapsburgher. I’m a steeler fan and I was glad when CRAPSBURGHER retired. I wish you jets fans luck this season. You will need it with Rodgers the clown.
Rodgers and Irving have Cal-Berkeley and Duke educations. Of course they’re socially maladjusted.
He is probably getting his helmet lined with foil. Do you want George Soros reading his thoughts when he is in the huddle?? Huh? Do ya?
Aaron Rodgers: “we need to do away with all the distractions!”
Also Aaron Rodgers: *distracts*
I hate this f*#?ing guy. I wanted no part of him before he was traded and this just illustrates why. What a piece of trash
Im legit worried about the Jets.
AR doesn’t need to be the mvp – he needs to be just average. The Jets are always a tough out.
That said, AR is incredibly self centered and wants his butt kissed. If this goes bad – it will likely get real bad. And it could mean jobs for alot if folks in the front office. Its a multi-season effort to rebuild if they fail.
But they knew who he was before they made the trade. Its not news to anyone. They were just willing to take the jump.
As a Bills fan – if they had got Derek Carr instead, they would have been better off. It can still work with AR, but the failure risk increased.
Chill out. Rodgers is in recovery mode. He doesn’t need to start his season early. As Sam points out, Tyrod Taylor getting reps is more important for now.
We have 2 new WR, 2 new RB (3 if you count Breece, who was limited last year after knee surgery), and a whole new OL. You don’t think it’s just a little important for the starting quarterback to develop a rapport with these new players?
What are the odds that the OL purposely acts as a turnstile the first snap of the season?
0.0%. What are you on?
Breece Hall had 299 touches last year. He doesn’t count as new.
“You don’t think it’s just a little important for the starting quarterback to develop a rapport with these new players?”
Not really, no. If he misses any actual training camp time, then yes.
Packers fans said the same thing every year about how good it is to get reps to the backup. Guess what? The backup (hopefully) never plays. The Packers always started seasons cold and Rodgers didnt play all last year.
He’s chilling out in a dark room by himself taking mushrooms. It’s what he does before the grind starts every year.
I’ve known a lot of people that ate mushrooms, and none of them came out right-wing conspiracy theorists afterward. They grow in cow pies. He might have eaten the wrong part!
The problem with so many right-wing conspiracy theories is the daft, hair-brained theories turn out to be true, supported by evidence and/or secret documents which come to light.
What’s a sensible person supposed to think these days?
I think the larger problem isn’t in the conspiracy, but in the conclusions drawn from them. For example, Sandy Hook was supposed to be a conspiracy to take your guns away, only gun manufacturers sold more guns than ever and not one gun law was passed. Since nobody took one gun away and gun sellers cashed in, the only conclusion to draw from a Sandy Hook conspiracy is that it was perpetrated by the gun manufacturers to get rich. Yet, the conclusion drawn by right wing conspiracy theorists is that Soros and the Clintons are trying to steal your guns. There is no such thing as a conspiracy that doesn’t have a punchline that goes like this… and then somebody got rich. Right wing conspiracies always end with somebody trying to “control” them, and at their own expense. Like Microsoft is putting computer chips in vaccines. There are no free computer chips! The tracking device is in your pocket, and Verizon charges $1,000 for those!
You’re cherry picking your events while muddying the issue with party politics. Institutional malevolence and deceit are is a bipartisan issue.
This list is tongue and cheek but not a bad starting point for conspiracy theories which turned out to be true.
I can tell you that I am not into “party politics”. I would not vote for either corporate shill parties candidate if they were the last two parties on earth. Not only that, but I can also say that both parties attacking the government with conspiracy theories like the left claiming G.W. Bush was reading their emails and the right claiming that the election was fixed furthers the corporate take over agenda conspiracy that is in our faces and the actual threat. Corporations fund the attack on government because it is the last thing big enough to challenge the corporations and their never ending mission to dominate every aspect of our lives. If only everybody would be as skeptical of private power as they were the public officials that corporations bought and paid for, we might be a different country.
I share your concern about corporate agenda, lark. Have a read about language and propaganda when you have a moment. It appears that at this point there’s enough malfeasance to cover both public and private sectors. A solid ethical/moral framework is essential to a healthy society.
Come out of your cave and get your ass in camp.
Jordan Love is about to get an extension and big payday from Brian Gutekunst so Rodgers is taking a bit of time off to work on a hilarious rant about that 🙂
Rolling with a 40-year old athlete is so Jets and is going to end so hilariously poorly. Enjoy Jets fans….you asked for this stiff.
It’s not like they had any other good options. They basically conceded that they were inept at drafting QBs so that only left veterans for them to pursue. I think Carr was their preferred choice but he liked the Saints instead. In hindsight we could say they should have taken a flyer on Joe Flacco like Cleveland did but at some point they have to find a long term solution.
Malignant narcissistic personality disorder.
Google it.
See if it reminds you of anyone.
Mike Florio, easy.
Maybe half the people that post on this site?
Can we just leave this dude and his antics to the clowns at ESPN?
Rogers being Rogers. GLAD he’s gone from Green Bay
As much as I love Rodgers for his time in GB, this is low character.
Meanwhile in Green Bay, vibes couldn’t be better with team chemistry and the quarterback position. Soooo funny
Just so all you NY sports fans know, it’s super fun here in Wisconsin that our sports organizations do so much more with so much less than you are doing in every sport.. talking to you Jets Mets and Knicks fans lol
It proves that spending isn’t always the advantage that small markets make it out to be. Jets and the NFL are capped, the Knicks have the same salary restrictions as other teams in the NBA, and the Mets are trying to learn that spending supplements player development, it does not replace it.
