As the Browns aim to have a healthy Deshaun Watson available for the entire 2024 campaign, a key aspect of the team’s offseason will be his rehab from a fractured shoulder socket. Developments on that front have been encouraging so far.
Watson threw every other day during OTAs, with the Browns understandably taking a cautious approach early in the spring. His workload increased over time, though, and he impressed during minicamp. As a result, the 28-year-old is on track to practice without restrictions in training camp.
“First and foremost, Deshaun has really worked his tail off during the rehabilitation process over the last several months,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said during an appearance on NFL Network’s The Insiders. “He’s really actually ahead of schedule… He’s thrown the ball well. Did a really nice job during our 7-on-7 and team periods during this veteran minicamp.
“He’s making excellent progress. Honestly if you didn’t know he got hurt last year, you really wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. We’re very excited once camp starts.”
The lingering shoulder issue affected Watson’s second Cleveland campaign, one in which he was slated to take part in the full season after the suspension which sidelined him for 11 contests in 2022. The Browns ultimately won 11 games while using five different starting quarterbacks last year, but having the former Texan in place for a full slate would be critical for team and player. Watson is entering the third year of his $230MM fully guaranteed pact signed upon arrival in Cleveland.
To date, the team has not received the expected results from the decision to trade for and sign Watson. The three-time Pro Bowler is set to carry cap hits above $63MM in each of the next three seasons (unless another restructure is worked out in the coming weeks), which will add to his importance on offense moving forward. Especially with running back Nick Chubb likely to miss time at the start of the season, increased emphasis will be placed on Cleveland’s passing game. If Watson is back to 100% by the fall, he will be positioned to make another run at a healthy season and serve as the focal point of the team’s attack.
He’s probably been getting lots of massages as part of his treatment.
Same place where Robert Kraft gets his rub ‘n’ tug?
Not quite, Kraft went to a known human trafficking ho house disguised as a massage parlor and got nabbed in the sting. The scumbag QB scanned social media for actual professional masseuses that fit a profile he liked, brought them into town, had them sign an NDL before the pressure for sex came. Those girls didn’t go there with those intentions and were just looking to get the pay they were promised for the professional massage they were hired to deliver. That the team had numerous therapists on staff and a training center to do all of that for him, but decided to let him do it at the hotel of his choice and provide him the NDLs to hand out like candy on Halloween means they were complicit. Scumbags.
“That’s too bad”

Dude been done playing at this point he’s just riding it out until 2026 ♂️ this is borderline thievery
Im incredibly skeptical this contract ever pays off for Cleveland.
Im here for it.
Dumbshawn Watson is recovering from:
A) Being a sex offender (60+ times)
B) Shoulder surgery
C) Being lazy malingerer
D) All of the above
Both the Browns and Jets have strong defenses that should allow them to be competitive in every game. Even average production from their offenses should be enough to get them into the post season.
I feel for you Cleveland fans it must suck to trying to defend this predator on a daily basis
Watson has to be the biggest joke in professional sports. More off the field drama than almost any player I can remember. Demands a fully guaranteed contract. Comes back from the suspension. Sucks. Then gets hurt and his team gets better without him. Seriously Cleveland, just play Winston at this point. You are better off that way.
This is Exhibit A for why fully guaranteed contracts are a terrible idea, although this problem is well-deserved for Cleveland considering they had all the time in the world to think this through and still paid a sex offender hundreds of millions guaranteed.
I usually side with the team on contract issues, but like you mentioned the team agreed to a fully guaranteed deal. They knew what they were doing from the get. I think guaranteed contracts would work well for both sides since there is a cap in play. No longer would void years, work out bonuses, or other garbage manipulations be an issue.
Also, Cleveland stepped up with an offer and he scoffed at it, instead maintaining some dignity they opened up the checkbook far more and then all of a sudden he was open to it. The rest of the NFL teams were livid with Cleveland for blowing the roof off the market, setting a Newmarket price and with such a sleezeball. Inexcusable.
Luckily for the Browns, if he’s not ready they already have a very serviceable backup (accused) rapist on the roster.
And, even better, he also happens to play QB, too.
Not only did they trade a boatload of draft capital to give an unprecedented amount of guaranteed money to a sex pest who’s torn his ACL twice and hasn’t been any good, but the salary cap has gone up more than 20% since he signed the deal and it’s *still* easily the most guaranteed money of all time.
Most of that huge cap hits have not even been in play yet.
It was a backloaded deal!
Right, all guaranteed after the tiny salary first year in order to avoid him losing any real money to his suspension. Very gross.
My expectations are low. Admittedly, I also just want the guy to fail. I understand technically all he did was go around and coarse women to grab his d*^% and really no different than most 20 something men, but at the magnitude he did and the abuse of his stature and money I just can’t as a father of two daughters, and Browns fan since Kosar, support him. I’m actually more excited about Winston and that in itself is sad.
