The Jets have moved up to No. 171 in a pick swap with the Eagles. New York will send the 185th and 190th picks to Philadelphia, allowing the team to select Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis. This agreement marks the eighth trade made by the Eagles in this year’s draft, tied for the most since 1990.
Travis is the second quarterback to hear his name called after the first round, having needed to wait quite some time following the first six passers coming off the board within the first 12 selections. The soon-to-be 24-year-old was projected as a Day 3 option, but one possessing upside after his successful run with the Seminoles.
Starting in 2020, Travis took over atop the depth chart, and he proceeded to enjoy individual success while leading the team to notable heights. The Louisville transfer saw incremental success over the years in terms of accuracy, and his mobility produced noteworthy production on the ground as well. In 2023, Florida State was one of the nation’s top teams in large part due to Travis’ play.
Following a 10-0 start to the year, Travis suffered a fractured leg. That injury sidelined him for the rest of the campaign and derailed the Seminoles’ offense. The team managed to remain undefeated through the ACC title game, but Travis’ absence was a key factor in the decision to leave Florida State out of the College Football Playoff. Without being able to take part in the pre-draft process, he was also at a disadvantage relative to other signal-callers in this year’s class.
Still, Travis – who ended his college career No. 1 in school history in total offense (10,655 yards) and touchdowns (99) – profiles as an intriguing backup option for the Jets. Zach Wilson is, to no surprise, no longer in the fold following his trade to the Broncos. Coming off an Achilles tear, Aaron Rodgers is in place to start in 2024 and he plans to continue playing into his 40s. Travis could serve as a third-string option behind Rodgers and offseason addition Tyrod Taylor before potentially succeeding the latter in the QB2 spot.
Uh oh, Aaron Egomaniac’s feelings!
No issue there. This kid will get a chance to learn while he is recovering himself.
I feel weird saying this but I feel like the jets made some very “adult decisions” during this draft
As a Jets fan I have to say it’s a very foreign feeling…
I’m a little confused by all the running backs, especially when they could have taken Rattler or an intriguing rotational defensive tackle, but it does feel like they’ve handled the big decisions very responsibly.
But you still have a nut job as a Quarterback!
Unfortunately we’re stuck with that sideshow
I’m not a jets fan so I’m not stuck with anything. Objectively the draft picks this year or at least the first 4-5 rounds seem very responsible
How so???
Probably because they were already competent players who have tremendous upside and fill areas of need when taking a long term outlook.
OT because Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses won’t play forever. A WR who can be utilized in screens, motions, quick outs, etc. so Rodgers doesn’t have to stand back there all day. A bruising RB to complement Breece Hall. A project QB with enough traits to possibly become the successor or at least a long term backup…
Bears Broncos Jets Cardinals Ravens Eagles all drafted extremely well. I am stunned
I agree with the exception of the Broncos. Didn’t really care for their draft.
They did well. An experience QB and his go to guy back on the same team and a sleeper running back pick to help Williams with load runs
They reached, wherein lies my problem. He was nicknamed Bubble Screen Bo for a reason. His 6.9 aDOT was 2.5 yds less than every other 1st round QB. I just don’t think you take a guy round 1 who badly needs other players to elevate him rather than the other way around. Jonah Elliss is fine, but there were better players on the board. I do like the Franklin selection, but not having a 2nd really lessened the impact of this class to me.
With every passing year that, I see the way Joe Douglas conducts business with his drafts. That said, it’s become so obvious that Woody Johnson was the one who wouldn’t allow Douglas and Saleh to acquire a legitimate QB once Zach went down. There’s no way on God’s Green Earth that Joe didn’t see Zach play and think hey, we can win with this guy. The fact that Woody had the sack to publicly blame Douglas for the Zach Wilson debacle is the reason no one wants to come here. Woody should be kissing his lucky stars that Douglas is here. Give Joe D the lifetime contract
