The uncertainty surrounding Haason Reddick‘s future has come to an end. The Pro Bowl edge rusher is being traded from the Eagles to the Jets, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal is now official.
With respect to compensation, Schefter notes New York will send Philadelphia a conditional 2026 third-round pick. The selection will become a second-rounder if Reddick plays at least 67.5% of defensive snaps this season and records at least 10 sacks.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo notes New York will take on $14.5MM of Reddick’s compensation. The Eagles, meanwhile, could also be off the hook for a $1MM roster bonus which was due to be paid out earlier this month but was delayed to April 1. 2024 marks the final year of the 29-year-old’s deal, but Garafolo’s colleague Ian Rapoport reports he is expected to land a new contract in the wake of this trade.
Reddick has drawn attention this offseason with it being known the Eagles were willing to move on from him. While he made it clear he did not request a trade, signs pointed to another lucrative Philadelphia agreement not being in the cards. That seemed to be confirmed when the Eagles landed ex-Jet Bryce Huff early in free agency, a move which added a noted sack artist to the mix. The team has also has Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham on the books for 2024, while New York was left in need of an edge addition prior to today.
Huff seemed destined to depart the latter team after a strong contract season. The Jets were one of the interested suitors in Jadeveon Clowney, but no deal materialized. Not long after seeing Clowney sign a deal with the Panthers, New York has pivoted to Reddick. Expectations will be high for the team’s edge contingent heading into the 2024 campaign as a result.
Reddick has posted at least 11 sacks in each of the past four seasons, a stretch split between his time in Carolina and Philadelphia. The former Cardinals first-rounder was a Pro Bowler in each of his two Eagles seasons, proving to be a valuable free agent addition. He is attached to a deal worth $15MM per year, but a new agreement will no doubt check in at a figure closer to the top of the market. Reddick’s 27 sacks and 76 pressures during the past two years will help his bargaining position with his new team.
New York’s two most frequently used edge rushers from last year – Jermaine Johnson and John Franklin-Myers – are each on the books for another two years on their respective contracts. The latter enjoyed a breakout season last year with 7.5 sacks, while the latter remained a consistent secondary producer in that regard. Adding Reddick to the fold will help offset the loss of Huff and give the team another sack artist to work with.
It will be interesting to see how urgently the Jets pursue a Reddick extension to keep him in the fold for the intermediate term and avoid a potential free agent departure next offseason. 12 edge rushers currently average over $20MM per year, and Reddick could aim to join that group in New York. At a minimum, the Jets’ front seven will still have a strong rotation next season even with Huff no longer in the picture.
Wasn’t expecting this one, but nice pickup for the price. It’s pretty unlikely he plays more than 67.5% of all defensive snaps given how much Saleh rotates guys. Even Quinnen barely surpassed that and Johnson didn’t. A third round pick two years later isn’t that big a deal.
That’ll bring the Jets very close to the cap. They could try to extend him and spread the cap hit.
The Jets HAVE to restructure or extend to lower that. That base salary puts them waaaaaay over.
They have a few big base salaries they can restructure.
Kill me.
The Eagles have Huff and Nolan Smith, much younger and won’t be demanding a huge contract. What’s to hate?
And sweat amd graham
Huff and Smith are lesser known commodities. Huff only came in on pure passing downs so will he translate to being a guy who can play more than 40% of snaps? If not, will he be worth the $17M AAV? I would say the thing to hate is that you’re replacing a sure thing with question marks.
What’s Reddick gonna make? Can’t pay everyone. It’s called chess. Howie does it well.
Reddick wasn’t great a run defense anyway. Reddick was signed to sack the quarterback. Now it’s Huff’s job along with Nolan Smith and probably the last year of Brandon Graham.
Jets fan here – love Huff but he can’t stop the run either
Huff only played around 40% of snaps this past season. He took advantage of obvious passing downs and barely played on 1st down. I didn’t want the Jets to lose him, but at a $17M AAV, I’d rather have Reddick and no 2026 3rd.
Reddick is better than them, that’s the issue.

The Jets ended 50 years of futility against the Eagles with a win last season and now Howie wants to do his part to make the Jersey Boys even better…lol.
that’s BS right there
What are you doing howie wtf
Doing what he does. One of the best!
Reddick is gonna have a great year. O-Line players can’t double everyone on that line.
He was less productive last year, probably headed for a decline. Plus that big salary is now gone. I wish him the best. He was so good in 2022 but time to move on. Same with Fletcher Cox. The only loss I regret is Kelce.
Almost every returning defender was worse last year. Reddick was still better than every other defender on the team.
I agree with you, but Reddick is getting older (sad that the Cardinals wasted the formative years of his NFL career), and the Eagles actually got a better return than I was expecting-not because I thought that Reddick was worth less, but because vets typically get undervalued in trades.
If Philly manages to nab a second (which would probably not get triggered by snap percentage, given Saleh’s rotational philosophy), that would be a fair return for losing Reddick. If Reddick were, say, two years younger, I think that the Eagles would have needed much more desperately to extend him. It would have been great to retain him, I agree, and he was the best front seven player last year, and arguably has been since he arrived in Philly.
If Rodgers is healthy and they draft a stud tight end and more linemen they can be a threat
If Rodgers is healthy….
Yupp
Zach Baun time…
So they swap Reddick for Huff and a 3rd rounder but still wind up paying more in salary. I don’t like this for the Eagles, Huff has only had one good year while Reddick is much more of a known quantity.
Huff can’t stop the run, but if u give him 70% of the snaps he’s gonna get 15-20 sacks
Reddick willnget a new deal. Plus he is older. Wait till you hear what the deal is till you comment
50.5 sacks over the last four years and now he’s on his fourth team in five years. Crazy.
Thank Arizona for that.
I’m really not understanding what the Eagles are doing this offseason.
And I’m pleasantly surprised by what the Jets are doing… I’m not a fan, but I’m happy for those that are because they’re making shrewd moves.
I’ve been of the opinion that Douglas is actually a good G.M. Except for the Wilson pick, which felt like yet another silly “pick a quarterback because we need a quarterback” incident, I think that he’s made an honest effort in most areas of meed. He was patient early on, building slowly. The Wilson pick was a big blunder that set the roster construction back a lot, and necessitated the Rodgers trade after. I’m also not sure if Douglas did that pick with no input from his owner-I have no reason to think that, but it is definitely possible, especially for a franchise that has been wanting in that regard for so long. But I think that he and Saleh have been building a good culture over time, and have the team competing in otherwise awful circumstances on the field.
They’ve had some bad luck, too-Rodgers going down and the offensive line injuries being the biggest part of that. I think that Douglas err’d in selecting Wilson and Becton so highly, but he at least was attempting to address areas of need with highly rated prospects (at least by some-I personally was lukewarm on Becton due to his size and slightly concerned over Wilson’s playstyle and size). This year, they’re pulling out whatever patience was left. We’ll see if their signings bear fruit, and perhaps most importantly, if Rodgers can return to form after a devastating injury at a veteran age.
He is a good pass rusher, but they are hoping those younger cheaper guys can step in and do that along with stopping run. They should use that money on secondary find someone better than Bradberry and maybe get Simmons.
The Eagles issue is paying a QB who can’t play QB.
BHomey comatose
Good move for Jets. How did JD get them to take a 3rd in 2026? 2026!
If they just kept him and let him play out his contract and he leaves as a free agent wouldn’t they have gotten a 3rd round comp pick anyway?
Would Mike Danna make sense for them?
