The Commanders’ hire has wrapped this year’s cycle. Barring a team making an 11th-hour change, the 2024 HC carousel has come to a stop. The final breakdown produced five defensive coaches being hired compared to three with backgrounds on offense. Many teams are still searching for offensive and defensive coordinators, however.

Kind of interesting that Antonio Pierce doesn’t have a Mentioned as Candidate, Rumored Candidate, or even Mutual Interest designation with the Raiders.
Eric Bieniemy made the list for Washington as — To Be Considered for Job…
Just saying?
Probably means that he isn’t even being considered.
The 0-3 loss at home vs the Vikings and their backup QB’s can have that effect on people.
What about the 60+ point game he dropped on the Chargers?
My original comment was a little harsh.
The Chargers game was great, but taking advantage of a broken team only nets so many points. I am not trying to take anything away from that performance, but if we praise him for his success we have to criticize his shortcomings. It is a performance based position. I think if he was brought back the Raiders go .500 next year + or – 1 game.
I would look at AP as the ultimate backup option for the Raiders HC.
If I am wrong that is fine too. The Raiders may just go and try to get a Harbaugh or a Ben Johnson if they don’t land them then they stay with AP. The question they are going to be asking themselves leading up to this decision is do they believe they can find someone who can make them better than what AP did this year. If they find someone they are confident can take them to new heights then they will take that person, but at the end of the day if they look at all these guys and say I do not see ‘that guy’ among the candidates then AP would be the best choice. I have to imagine that just because he is not listed as a HC candidate it would go without saying that he is still someone they are looking at.
To me it’s either AP or Harbaugh. If we bring in Belichick it will just be another slap in the face to Raider Nation. My heart is saying to give AP the job based on how he was able to turn things around and get our defense to over perform after he took over. But my brain is saying that we need to do everything we can to get Harbaugh in the building. He’s a proven HC and a winning one at that. Obviously there will be some discord and some sadness seeing AP go but these guys are pros and they understand that it’s a business. They will get over it once the W’s start stacking up.
I think Bieniemy will goto Washington and I don’t think he will succeed there. I don’t think Washington will be a good fit for him
I think his perfect fit would be either Atlanta or Carolina
Well now that Harbaugh has an NCAA championship under his belt wonder what NFL he’s gonna sign with.
Bigger reason he is headed that way is the same reason Carroll left usc for Seattle.
Crazy that ncaa strips usc of wins and a title over improper benefits but now pays athletes NIL money. Go figure.
College sports are a complete joke
SIS BOOM BAH…link to youtube.com
The stripped R Bush of his Heisman as well.
Yeap. They need to give back Reggie Bush’s Heisman too.
I think they will strip Michigan of last nights title in time. Once these NCAA investigations are complete, that is.
No they won’t. Cheating is rewarded now in our society
I get what you’re saying. But I agree w/ Damage. Why isn’t AP getting asked for interviews w/ other teams? He did admiral job w/ rookie QB no less (5-4). I would want to speak with him and see what he’s all about. Clearly the players think highly of him & that’s a big point in today’s game.
But I fully expect M Davis not to pay attention to his players, go for a big name hire, ticking off his players and fans. Lots of support for AP in the stands as well.
It’s not like what Mark has done for the past decade and change has worked, try something new for once.
arty! — Couldn’t agree with you more, you nailed it on multiple levels.
I would also like to add for consideration that when Mark Davis inherited the Raiders, Hue Jackson had already announced that he would operate in an ownership function moving forward. Commissioner Rodger Goodell was brought in for guidance and stability.
As a result of Goodell’s guidance MD hired GM Reggie McKenzie and HC Dennis Allen. Reggie had a past tied to the Raiders with Ron Wolf and Dennis Allen who was the hot young talented D-Cord.
Both were rookies and Mark Davis was criticized on every level for years for these hires. Now MD is faced with the popular pick of GM Champ Kelly and HC Antonio Pierce, both rookies at the position. I completely understand his caution with blindly marching forward with a 1st time GM/HC combo again.
Come on Falcons…let’s grow that list!
Let’s not be fooled here. More than likely another off-season of token interviews for minority candidates followed by status quo HC and coordinator hirings by NFL team owners in mainly taxpayer funded stadiums. Will coaching staffs ever actually reflect the makeup of the players on the team?
Just win baby…except for Tony Dungy, Mike Tomlin, minority coaches overall have not done well. Maybe it is the sample size. By the way I am not crazy about Tomlin. yes he has a winning record but his teams look the same every year. The league is changing Mike,,, Pass , Pass, Pass.
@tigerfan1968
It’s about opportunities!
Using your line of thought there’s been several dozen more terrible losing coaches than minority coaches overall. Perhaps owners should avoid non-minority coaches due to the large number of lousy ones for that reason. Or perhaps a similar ratio to the makeup of NFL players.
Just add Eberflus to the list. Get it over with.
Jimmy Harbs (Chargers) n Nick Saben (Commanders) coming back to the league w/unfinished business. Plus Belichek leaves4 Carolina.
Surprised Vrabel is not listed as a candidate for any of these openings
Same core names R up 4almost every available HC gig, interviewed or 2B soon. Also a few of same retread names in mass. Would B fascinating if nfl produced hard knocks type show but all bout coaching search including edited interviews. Nfls always looking 4new marketing avenues. Must see TV watching prospective clients go through the gauntlet of stressful hiring process. More fun than watching Carolina gm.
Wow, no Pete Carroll anywhere.
Sam,
It would be awesome if you could specify whether the interviews are in-person or virtual.
Thanks,
K T
Need to add Philadelphia to the list
Surprised Vrabel isn’t a top candidate for these teams
