Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas was arrested last night and charged with simple battery and criminal mischief, per the Kenner, Louisiana police department (via Travers Mackel of WDSU in New Orleans). Thomas was booked and subsequently released. Nick Underhill of NOF Network first reported on the incident last night.
ESPN’s Katherine Terrell provided more insight on what led to Thomas’ arrest. Neighbors reportedly called the police on the NFL veteran after he became increasingly angry with contractors who were parking on his street. The alleged victim claims that Thomas threw a brick at their car, and they also accused Thomas of throwing their phone after they started recording. The police report indicates that Thomas also shoved the victim.
According to Underhill, no car windows were damaged and the phone was not broken. Thomas reportedly asked the contractors to move their cars throughout the week, leading to yesterday’s incident.
“We aware of the incident and are gathering information,” the Saints said in a statement (via Underhill). The wide receiver is expected to play tomorrow against the Vikings, per Underhill.
As Greg Auman of FOX Sports notes, the misdemeanor charges means Thomas will likely face fines and/or probation. The wideout could realistically face punishment from the NFL under their personal conduct policy.
After getting into only 10 games between the 2020 and 2022 seasons, Thomas will be playing in his 10th game of the 2023 campaign tomorrow. Despite being back to full health, the receiver hasn’t come close to matching his All-Pro production from 2018 and 2019. In nine games (six starts), the veteran has hauled in 38 catches for 439 yards and one touchdown.
This is the second time in less than three weeks that a Saints receiver has been arrested. In late October, Chris Olave was arrested in Kenner for reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
Sounds like another NFL narcissist who thinks he is better than everyone else. Hope they continue to park in same spots to really make him mad. Get some counseling idiot.
Well, if you’ve ever lived on a street where construction is going on, then you get how irritating that can be. They park wherever and however they want, neighbors be damned. He probly could’ve handled it better, but I totally understand his frustration.
Yeah, this is one of the few examples of stuff like this happening I want to know what Michael’s side of the story is. This isn’t Tyreke Hill trespassing on someone else’s boat and then punching a security officer. I’m not justifying what he did, but if there was something they were doing all week and they were being unreasonable or jerks I don’t think this is some narcissist athlete being crazy.
Unless the construction/work is being done at your home…then it’s ok right?
As a contractor myself, this stuff is so funny. Maybe Thomas and everyone else that is upset when contractors fill up their streets would rather we park in THEIR driveway or yard.
IF it was just in the driveway of the construction site. But they park up and down the street, block lanes and traffic in the whole neighborhood. It’s like they ARE parking in our driveway. What you think is “so funny” is actually just thoughtless.
What you think is thoughtless, is people actually having and doing their job. Where do you suggest they park???? If they were working on YOUR house I’m sure you would have a completely different outlook on it. But let’s not think about that, because it would make too much sense.
Well at least he’s healthy
Two former Ohio State players arrested in the last few weeks? Shocker.
Arrested vs. Intensive Michigan stealing signals and signs scandal.
Notice how the National Sports Media crucify Jim Harbaugh yet looked the other way at the criminal element within the Big Ten. Larry Nassar, Jerry Sandusky, Pat Fitzgerald, not to mention real bullies in Bob Knight and Woody Hayes.
I can’t attest to the rest but Jerry Sandusky was definitely not ignored by national sports media at the time. It was national news and a huge story. Joe Paterno’s “i didnt know” wasnt accepted as a valid excuse and the legend was dismissed from the team. I think the AD was dismissed or resigned too. Penn State was also stripped of wins and other accolades. Closest thing to the death penalty SMU got in recent memory. It got a lot of sttention.
LOL @ ‘intensive’
LOL don’t cheat
LOL tainted
Ironically, the Saints players now seem to be the target of bounty hunters.
Construction workers parking all over your street can make you crazy.
Yeah they should park on front lawns.
Agreed with part, at least. Obviously Thomas handled this the wrong way, if these allegations are true, and he should be held accountable. I certainly understand why he was frustrated, though.
As a contractor who has to park on the street to provide a service….trust me it drives us more crazy when you nosey neighbors come out to complain even though it’s not effecting your life in any way. Being a “Karen” is the polite thing to say from what we actually call you! hahaha
That’s why I’ve never bothered a contractor to move his stuff. It’s pretty annoying, but most of the time there aren’t many good options.
I do wish that more of y’all would lock up your stuff, though. It’s way too easy to steal tools from workers on the job and to hop into a car and speed off. Sucks to see guys go back to the truck and be missing sanders, clippers, hedgers, etc. because they’re so easy for thieves to move at the flea market.
The residents/neighbors that park on the street but directly across from each other are the real a**holes. Try driving thru with a box truck or a big trailer without hitting one….Fire Fighters are trained to just plow thru them regardless
Oh yeah, definitely agreed.
Throwing bricks at their cars and threatening your neighbors sounds like the right response – said no one ever.
Karen Thomas
“GET OFF MY LAWN”
Roid rage is real.
He should’ve been arrested years ago for stealing his salary
Dude is stealing money from the front office at this point. This dude has fallen off so hard it’s actually sad and I’m a falcons fan lmao
Wait until he finds out about bicyclists in the roads!
Bicyclist should be required to have a bicycle roadway license and license tags on the bike plus a flashing orange light on their stupid helmets!
Bicycling to be healthy on roads next to gasoline operated automobiles and diesel trucks – that’s my idea of being healthy
I’m warming up to the idea of a SB half time show that features Michael Thomas throwing bricks while Antonio Brown throws furniture.
Better than that garbage they’ve run out there the past few years
Thomas arrested for acting like an NFL player.
We use are words to communicate Michael.
