NOVEMBER 14: Rodgers provided some more context on a potential return during his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. The QB admitted that he “never said anything definitive” regarding a potential return date and said “nothing’s changed” about his timeline (via Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com).
However, the QB is clearly keeping the door open to a return this season. In addition to his actual recovery, Rodgers will also consider the Jets’ playoff positioning over the upcoming weeks.
“There’s no set date,” Rodgers said. “It could change. If I have a great week this week and next week, that could be accelerated. If we are not in it in three or four weeks, that could take it a different way. I expect us to be in it and I expect to come back, so that’s about all I can tell you at this point.”
NOVEMBER 13: The Jets delivered another poor performance on offense during Sunday night’s loss to the Raiders, adding to the list of disappointing showings by Zach Wilson under center. He remains in place as New York’s starter, but the possibility still exists that Aaron Rodgers could suit up by the end of the season.
The latter has publicly stated his intention of returning to full health at least in time for the start of the 2024 campaign. That would represent a realistic goal under normal circumstances, but Rodgers has repeatedly hinted at an improbable comeback in time for the stretch run this year. In the latest development on that front, the four-time MVP said he is aiming to suit up in mid-December during last night’s broadcast (h/t NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo).
Rodgers underwent a ‘speed bridge’ procedure on his torn Achilles, a relatively new operation aimed at greatly shortening the recovery process. Still, being available for any game action in 2023 would represent a highly impressive feat. Having resumed throwing roughly one month ago, the 39-year-old showed signs of being able to play late in the season (with the caveat that doing so would only realistically be possible if the Jets found themselves in postseason contention late in the year).
The Jets are on board with the notion of Rodgers being able to play in the relatively near future, so his update represents a further sign of the parties’ shared goal to rescue a season which is under threat of going off the rails due to poor offensive play. New York has managed just three offensive touchdowns over the past five games, and Wilson has yet to develop as hoped. The latter still had the unanimous backing of the organization before Week 10, and it will be interesting to see if a change to the QB depth chart will be given new consideration in the coming days.
For now, the hopes of the 4-5 Jets will still rest on Wilson’s shoulders with respect to sufficiently complementing a strong defense and running game. Roughly one month from now, however, Rodgers could be on track to reprise his starter’s role depending on his continued recovery and the state of the team in the closing stages of the campaign.
The entire AFC north is above .500, then there’s the colts, bills, Texans, raiders(now have tiebreaker), same record as chargers (chargers have tie breaker). The Jets play bills, dolphins twice, browns and Texans still. There doesn’t seem to be a solid path for this tohave any meaning. Play for next year
Ironically, except for the Cowboys’ game, the Jets have played better against better opponents. They beat the Bills and Eagles and were very close to beating the Chiefs, so it’s hard to know what to expect.
This man has to be tested for HGH or something if he comes back this season.
I think the Jets will be cautious here. Listening to his wants but realizing the liability and criticism they would take if he were injured twice in the same season behind that “very offensive” line.
He’s the one shooting off his mouth. Let’s see if he can back it up. Jets haven’t said anything.
I think the Jets organization would be in total shock if a day went by where they weren’t criticized. It’s been a part of their culture for a decade or more. They’re immune by now.
The Jets aren’t running that show. Rodgers is. He’ll do what he wants, and the organization will pay the price for it.
rooting for my son
Can we borrow him until mid-December? Asking is a Steelers fan who cannot stand to watch another minute of Kenny Pickett play football. Rather watch a 38 year old one legged stoned guy than watch another snap of Pickett.
Defense and the ground game won it for Pittsburgh vs. Green Bay. That’s how the Steelers will ride as they head into the playoff chase.
As it typically does for the Steelers. Pickett stinks
Season will be over by December 1, take your time
I don’t care who was at QB for the Jets, how do you lose to the Hapless Raiders
By being the hapless Jets or Giants.
Apparently
Give credit where credit is due. Josh Jacobs had a field day against the usually stout Jets run defense. The Raider D came up big late in the game.
As well, have you seen Buffalo lately?
Buffalo is painful
Not sure why
They are so inconsistent
Nope, no way. Had this injury. He can barely walk correctly at this point. So one month? Lol No way.
I dont care what Rodgers says, he will not play this season.
Not gonna happen.
Oh btw, if you rebreak and Achilles, you are a club foot for life. As my Surgeon warned, there is not enough tissue for a second break. Meaning, they cannot reconnect the tendon a 2nd or 3rd time.
Now mine happened over a decade ago and I know they have made advances in this recently, but no way he is back by December. Ill bet it in Vegas. its easy $$$$$.
He’s been walking on the sidelines and throwing 50 yard bombs. I hate the guy, but he’s got a shot at being back.
With no pressure on him from 300lbs. No coverage to have to read. Don’t compare that to actual game.
The tissue needs actual time to heal. With mine they pulled the two pieces of my tendon together, reconnected and I was in a special boot for 3-6 months, i forget but i was closer to 5-6 month than 3.
I know Rodgers is a professional athelete and all, but i had Shaq’s doctor who is also the Lakers doctor, so I just dont see it.
Sorry, I just dont see it.
Seems the comments are all making judgements based on a different procedure. Advancements happen in medicine and treatment. This was a new procedure with a much shorter recovery. Personally I’m skeptical, but it’s not impossible. Also, Rodgers doesn’t actually move on the field, he was already not mobile, which is why he gets sacked so much, so I wouldn’t put it past him to stand there and throw the ball. His surgery doesn’t need to hold up for a long time, just until the end of next year when he retires.
A QB needs to move to have a chance in the league. Brady had to make some plays with his legs in his old age.The Jets have had multiple Achilles injuries have all of them had this procedure? How come the others are not talking about coming back by playoffs? It isn’t possible to play a physical game like football if he truly had a torn Achilles in 4months. Akers came back in 6 and didn’t really produce, his position did require more than a QB.
Its the same procedure. You rupture your tendon, meaning its in two pieces, then you reconnect, its pretty simple.
My doctor ALSO used special, new advancements in the procedure. I was still out 6 months and needed another 6 for rehab and physical therapy.
That second part is where he has the advantage over me, my doctor is the Lakers doctor, I doubt Rodgers guy is more competent than the Lakers personal orthopedic surgeon.
I will float a second theory. Rodgers is spewing crap he knows nothing about…like his vaccine position? Yeah that is probably more likely than he is some freak of nature with magic healing like Wolverine or his doctor is a shaman who can heal with his thoughts…
Not going to play him and risk their investment further. This is all just lip service to keep himself in the news. He won’t have any mobility behind a terrible oline. If he does force their hand, no one should feel sorry if he gets him self Joe Thiesman, Alex Smith, or that one Bears TE that was bleeding from leg injury.
Idk why anyone is surprised, he’s always been a major believer in modern medicine and experimental treatments.
This guy demands the spotlight (even when irrelevant to the current conversation) and the media just eats it up.
“LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!” – Aaron Rodgers
Putting a nearly immobile Rodgers behind that offensive line would be criminal.
I did not even think of that aspect. You are correct he will be murdered on the field…
